When Floortje is reincarnated into the world of an otome game, things immediately go wrong. Her fiancé, Prince Jonas, breaks off their engagement, and the supposed protagonist, the Saint of Light Jaromíra, makes Floortje out to be the villainess. Little do they know, however, that Floortje was a sumo wrestler in her past life—and she won’t let these weaklings stand in her way!

After rescuing the cat-eared Prince Richie from the castle’s dungeon, Floortje embarks on a journey with an ever-growing sumo stable to save the kingdom from the grips of the real villains, Prince Jonas and Saint Jaromíra. With the spirit of sumo—her most trustworthy ally—to guide her, she’s ready for a smackdown! But why was she reincarnated into an otome game, and how did its protagonist turn evil in the first place?

DNF at 20%. Repetitious, the jokes fall flat and the 18 MC h POV is attracted to the 12 year old Prince which is NAWSTY. The Prince had a nightmare and went to her bedroom for comfort and she was planning to SEDUCE him, but he fell asleep so she left him alone.

At least she had some scruples? 🤷‍♀️ 🤢 🤮

1, this had such promise and it ended up being a complete waste of money, stars.

It's a convention in fantasy Otome games (I guess? I haven't actually played any of them) to have the primary love interest have a fiancee who is secretly evil and spends the game tormenting the main character, only to be publicly unmasked and banished/killed whatever at the end. This has turned into an entire subgenre of light novels about girls who are fans of an Otome game, die, and are then reincarnated into the game as the evil villainous, and must now deal with or avert their fate. I'm certainly not claiming the American YA market is a bastion of creativity, but light novels do seem to be inbred in a very specific way.

Anyway, the Goodread description tells you the joke. The reincarnated girl was a sumo wrestler, and in the magic kingdom she's reincarnated into sumo is magic, and she uses magic sumo wrestling to win the day. That's it, that's the book. It's never all that funny, but it's occasionally mildly amusing, and at least it's short. I am baffled that it has a sequel; one short novel (novella really, with a few short stories at the end) seems to me about as far as this joke will extend. "Adam" (no last name given in the book itself, either) does a workmanlike job as a translator. All in all, it's OK I guess, two or three stars.

(Columbo starts to leave the room, but then turns around). Oh, ah, just one more thing ... why is the male love interest twelve years old, when the female love interest is college-age? Why did the illustrator choose the scene where the child love interest is mostly naked and talking to another completely naked boy to illustrate? I understand that adult protagonists being reborn as teenagers and having relationships with people who are actually much too young for them is basically part of the genre, but usually authors at least have the sense to make them visually *look* as if they're not sex criminals; this book is really saying the quiet part out loud.
