Dr. Alex Lee is that rarest of people: a talented physician with a life going nowhere. The emergency department is the only place he feels safe from the crippling anxiety that's slowly corroding his life; all because of what happened in a barn loft seventeen years ago.
Through pathologic dedication to patient care, he tries to atone for the guilt of that day while battling severe PTSD that threatens to end his career. Misery and self-defeat are normal until a flirtatious nurse with a secret of her own catches his eye.
Alex enlists the help of a psychotherapist to help him process the root of his past emotional trauma to improve his present and future. His career and future relationships depend on successful treatment, as he will need someone by his side when he learns what really happened that day in the loft.
Seventeen years ago something happened in the loft that left Dr. Lee with PTSD. A doctor in the emergency department, he is at risk of losing his job if he doesn't get it together. He is a wonderful doctor and the ER is the only place that he does not have anxiety and he cannot lose his career. When he notices a nurse, he goes to a psychotherapist to get help in dealing with the trauma that is holding him back from relationships and success in his personal and professional life. WIth the help of the psychotherapist, he learns what really happened that day so many years ago. It Happend in the Loft was such a great book. It went from past to present, but was easy to follow and had a good flow. It was a great read and I will definitely be looking for more books by Brian Hartman!
I was fortunate to have received an ARC copy of this book.

Features: - mostly clean. (No sex, but there is a focus throughout the book on the PTSD effects on reproductive organs) - easy to follow storyline - simple romance, HEA - triggers: sibling death, alcoholic father
Mr. Hartman has done it again with another captivating book that leaves the reader always eager to find out what happens next. As a medical professional myself, I enjoyed the realistic experiences portrayed throughout this story, while also learning new facts of the character's past with many twists I didn't see coming. The relationship between the two main characters kept me laughing. The storyline was well written and leaves the reader feeling as though he/she is a part of the experiences as well. I would highly recommend this book to others. Great work!
This was a very good read on difficult subject matter and I thought the author did a nice job of dealing with PTSD in a manner that made it realistic.
There were plenty of emotions to go around and I loved how he showed the “human side” of a doctor. A doctor who didn’t live on a pedestal, but rather dealt with life just as you or I would.
I look forward to reading more by this author. I was given a complimentary copy of this book. My opinions are my own.
This was a quick read, easy read! I felt the book was anticipating something really big at the end and the ending did have a twist but I wasn’t as surprised by it as I was hoping for. Regardless, I really enjoyed this read! Topics include PTSD and Mental health with a romantic storyline.
I absolutely loved this book. A story of incredible pain and loss and a story of healing and a life redeemed and reclaimed. The characters were so real and relatable; the story so believable. I’ll be thinking of this one for a long time!
Once you start reading, you won’t stop! You will be transported to a time and place that you don’t want to leave. The story line and lives connecting make this an enjoyable, thrilling, read!
