In the aftermath of a global war, the survivors on an isolated Southeast Alaskan island struggle to cope. But as Sierra Forrester and Austin Martin piece their lives back together, a new danger sails into their harbor. Can the islanders defend themselves from well-armed, trained and hungry interlopers?
Meanwhile, Wu Ying runs into serious complications in his efforts to escape China with his new Christian friends. Will he be able to leave the war-torn country, or will his attempts be thwarted? Failure could leave him destitute and trapped in a dangerous, radioactive landscape.
In Russia, Major General Ivan Orlov learns that the president’s beautiful teenage granddaughter suffered a horrific death in the aftermath of the war, and Ivan’s family is implicated in the tragedy. Can he clear their name before retribution is served on his household? Read THE LION to find out.
THE LION is the fourth book in Jamie Lee Grey’s thrilling post-apocalyptic Mystery Babylon series. Begin this clean, faith-based adventure today!
Jamie Lee Grey is the author of numerous Christian novels, including the Band of Believers series, the Daughter of Babylon series, the Tribulation series and the Mystery Babylon series. She and her husband live in the northwestern United States.
This fourth installment began directly after the war, picking up shortly after the end of the last book. The reality that could be in the not too distant future is brought forth in sheer terror at times. I truly enjoy following along with the four main characters in these books. I find it interesting as a reader, an American, a family matriarch and as a Christian. Going in I assumed “The Lion” was about Christ. I was wrong. I recommend this one, but please start with the first in the series. On to the next!
Reading on from the three different perspectives, we follow Ivan who is Russian, Wu Ying who is Chinese and American Sierra and Austin, which is good and interesting. I dislike Ivan intensely but there is something about Wu Ying that I like, probably because he is able to look outside the brainwashing that he has received all of his life. There are some twists and turns that keep me reading the text nothing is as it seems because, in the next breath, it all goes to pot. A very interesting and believable series so far.
I am really hooked on this series! Once again, readers have to read the entire series, in order, in order to understand everything that is going on. This is book 4 and, at the time of writing this review, book 5 isn’t due to release for a couple of months. I have no idea when the story will finally wrap up. I’m too far into it to give up now but I really am looking forward to reading the conclusion as I really don’t like book series. This one, like all the other ones, ends in a cliffhanger. It is well-written, although some of it I didn’t agree with. The stories are all quite gripping. We read three different perspectives as well as three very different cultures and backgrounds in an alternating voice. I found it distracting in the previous books, so I just read through each person’s individual perspective all the way through this time and I found it much more enjoyable, rather than breaking the pace each time. I plan to do the same for book 5. I recommend this series, but only if readers are prepared to read multiple books in a row, as each book immediately picks up where the last one left off.
I left a lengthy review on the prior book in the series. I so enjoyed the personal interplay and the depictions of Christianity in action. In difficult situations, choosing the correct path is hard. The author depicts these well, though often there is greater inner turmoil than these characters illustrate. As for the overall world view of the books, there’s considerable influence from Dominion theology and Christian Nationalism. Separating these influences from Christian views and values requires discarding the political views dominant throughout the series and instead focusing on personal interactions and relationships of the characters. Beyond that, the military aspects and nuclear weapons depictions are very inaccurate.
Because of the political influences in the book, I can do not recommend it. If you decide to read it focus on the personal stories of the characters. Avoid the political views and understand America military forces are far more capable than, and distributed far differently than, the series portrays.
I've read most of Jamie's series. From the authenticity of the material, to character development through her stories, Jamie has proved herself to be a gifted, talented writer. I am always checking when her next book is coming or maybe coming sooner.
The Mystery Babylon series has progressed from watching the hi grow in their walk with their Saviour after catastrophic events. I'm enjoying Austin's walk and love his motto of alone with God. I do have to admit, until this book in the series, Sierra was too quirky for my taste, but changes are happening inside her. I'm not sure if this is the last book for the series or not, but could be as some loose ends were tied up. Personally, I do hope there are more. I would like to see how everyone continues to grow with the current changes in the coming time. Another great read from Jamie Lee Grey.
This is the fourth book in the Mystery Babylon Series and it picks up where number three ends. I have so enjoyed listening to the audiobook. Each main character is so interesting and so many things happening that when the author leaves me hanging at the end of each chapter I can hardly wait to get back to each one. I won’t rehash the blurb that you can read for yourself but just know these books are some of the best I’ve ever read and I read a lot. So intense and hard to put down you might ought to have a good bit of time before you start one. I can hardly wait to listen to the next book called The Gazelle. Don’t forget to read the books in order. Thanks to a different narrator than the one that reads this series thought I might enjoy. I received the audio code from her but was not required to write a positive review. All opinions are my own.
Trying to escape from China in itself is hard but being Christian and a high level government official isn't easy. Having open heart surgery and awakening from a coma to find out your son was involved with the granddaughter of the President of the country and she died in the fallout of the bombs that were dropped by the US. Will the family be taken away and be killed in retaliation? Will he be killed as well. Book 5 should be interesting.
This book goes into the aftermath of the nuclear war of book three. How do the three societies survive? Do they turn to God or fall away? What happens to the military of the United States? While I would hope that there are many who would uphold the laws they swore to protect, I also know there are those who are just bullies looking for a place to go. The author gave an example of the bullies in this book.
Thought provoking on how I would live if something like this happened. I don't know if I would do quite as well.
Captivating from page one . This one is impossible not put down.
What else could happen after a major natural disaster and a nuclear war? What started with Bear and Sierra , and Austin has led us here ... what and who remains after World war 3? I promise you wont be able to put this one down ; but you will be drawn into Jamie Lee Greys World , a world that just be our tomorrow . She will draw you in and point you to the God , who despite everything is always in control .
I was impressed with the accuracy, and the use of current climate here in America. I have no doubt that any or all of it, could be true. Americans are being asked/told to give up many of their freedoms, such as the right to bear arms. And it wouldn’t surprise me if no country would come to our aid, tho they demand we come to theirs. Hoping that goes farther,in following the main characters, what happens next?
I read the entire series in a week. What an emotional roller coaster. I just found this author and I will be reading more. The story of a remote village in Alaska, a Russian general, and a general in communist China is woven together in a way that will have you eagerly turning every page. Scripture, morals, ethics and end times hold it all together. Do not miss this series!
This was a well written end to his four book series. To understand this story and the significance of the events included you need to read the other three books in order. I recommend the series as a good read. It does show God's love and grace, even for those who may doubt.
I have read all the books in this series. It is a wonderful Christian series of books, with inspiring messages. The writing is very good and the subjects are interesting. Highly recommended
This series had some great characters and plots. I enjoyed reading each book. It was intriguing to see the Authors understanding of Babylon which was made clear in The Lion.
Great fourth book to this series!!! Well written, Biblically based and inspirational! Never preachy but always life affirming!! Excellent addition to the Post Apocalyptic genre!!!
