Wow, What A Story!

Being the seventh book in the Silence Jones series (how did that happen so quick!?) – I’m intimately familiar with Silence’s MO and how he is as a character, or so I think. In each book, Carter throws in a curveball that always catches me off guard. Earlier in the series, it was the kindness shown to his neighbor, and as the series progressed, other different things he’s said or done caught me off guard as well.

In Quiet as the Grave, we’re introduced to a more intricate and webbed story. Si is uncovering the different layers while also facing off with some dark and dangerous inner demons brought on by the case.

I’m happy that Carter went for a more in-depth story here. Not that the other ones haven’t been, but in Quiet as the Grave, it’s such a branching and intricate storyline with lots of different players. It’s not hard to keep track of, but it just made for a much more thrilling and interesting story. Don’t get me wrong; Carter doesn’t abandon the quick, awesome action scenes here. They are on full display and really turned this book from good to great.

And, of course, I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention how great Bennett’s narration is. He’s somehow able to become Silence every time without making it too much. That deep, gravely voice is always there – even though there are not a lot of long-winded Silence talking points, they always steal the show. I’m so glad that Carter and Bennett have been working together on this series. They seem to bring out the best in each other’s work.

Overall, Quiet as the Grave may be my new favorite book in this series. Carter held nothing back, and I noticed. I’m thrilled that I’ve been able to follow the journey, and I’m genuinely curious about when (and most of all, how) it will end.

Silence Jones finds more targets than he was assigned - 4.5 stars

In Reno, Nevada, a poisoned supply of heroin is killing unsuspecting drug users. There is also a self-appointed "cleansing" agent who wants to remove "losers" at the edges of the population.

Silence Jones' employer, the Watchers, has sent Silence to do what law enforcement professionals have turned their backs to. Silence is a willing, professional assassin with a history of ridding society of people who have found ways to avoid prosecution. In this adventure, crime lords are staking out new territory. People are dying.

Silence Jones is tortured by his past demons. His fiancee (CC) was killed but communicates with Silence when he is stressed. This assignment is more stressful than usual. A woman who was working with Silence at the time his fiancee was murdered, is helping decode a cipher that was etched on the drug containers.

In addition to murders of drug users, drinkers, and panhandlers, drug lord's enforcers have roughed up people in their own organizations who were suspected of being disloyal. The quick pace accelerates when all the "bad guys" come to a charity event. The wrap-up is exceptionally well-orchestrated -- Silence even loses some of his demons.

Silence Jones is an assassin by trade and works for a group that feels justice has not been served. This time Silence is in Reno to find and kill the person called the Carver, but what Silence finds when he gets there is a lot more that needs to be done but he has only been sent for one job. Everywhere Silence goes death is there and with some bad cocaine out there the addicts are dropping like flies but one thing is for certain the bad drugs come with needles with special markings.
Silence has his work cut out but he never or hasn't failed yet.
These are fast-paced quite brutal novels and again the author has done a good job at piquing your interest, and lucky for me I have been given an ARC copy to review which is honest and voluntary

This is another high-octane installment in this terrific series. This time Silence is in Reno where a man known as The Carver is on a murder spree, while at the same time, a new batch of drugs is killing lots of people.

As usual, this is a violent and fast-paced thriller which takes you on a thrilling ride right from the first page. I always find these books hard to put down and this was no exception.

I received an advanced copy of this and this is my honest review.

A mission sends Silence to Reno into the drug trade. Addicts are dying by one means or another. A mysterious code on the needles, a set of symbols. Will anyone figure out the code? Death is everywhere but how to stop it. As Silence fulfills his mission, he takes on a mission of his own. Justice must be served. Full of action, suspense and a twist I didn't see coming. A good read. Recommend. Received an ARC and this is my voluntary honest review.

Silence gets tough and he also gets banged around.
Silence seems to have a mission that entails too many strings.
These strings are attached to his main objective,.
He’s not sanctioned for them but they are needed to keep everything stopped and closed.
Follow Silence’s journey through the muck and mire of the under belly of drugs, crime and death.
Is he crossing a line he shouldn’t?
Is he going rouge?
From the beginning to the end his journey is complicated by everyone he talks to.

very good

Another very good story in a very good series. The Silence stories are always full of twists and steady action with many well written characters, not least Silence himself. Only reason for 4 rather than 5 stars was the surprisingly high number of typos in the book which act as a bit of a distraction.

Another good Silence Jones book. This one is set in Reno and includes a serial killer and poisoned heroin being distributed around the town. There is the usual action and plot twists and a satisfactory conclusion to the story. It is an easy well written read.

SERIES DESCRIPTION (from the author’s newsletter)

To the criminal world, Silence Jones is a legend. A fable. A folk tale.

Rumor has it he hardly speaks, and when he does, his voice is a monstrous growl. He’s tall and dark, lurking in the shadows, waiting to eliminate serial killers and mob bosses. A ruthlessly trained assassin who can break a man’s neck with a snap of his hands. A killer backed by a secretive organization hidden within U.S. government. A latter-day hangman whose sole mission is to eliminate individuals who escaped justice.

The product of overactive imaginations, surely. That’s what the underworld tells itself. Silence Jones is only a bit of paranoia. Little more than a nightmare. Just a myth, they say.

But they’re wrong.

Silence Jones is real.
