Valley of the Old Gods #3

Railed by the Krampus

Deck the Halls with Mirth & Mischief

When I said I'd sell my soul for a lump of coal on Christmas Eve, I was joking... mostly. But the strange shadow that has always lived behind my mirrors doesn't get the joke.

Now, I'm at the mercy of Klaus's bargain until I can bring him twelve increasingly ridiculous gifts (why are most of them birds?). But the creature that lurks in his domain wants something more... something infinitely more delicious.

Dalia Davies fell into monster romance--almost by accident--and loves it here. She drinks her weight in tea every day and has been told on numerous occasions that she “knows too much”.
She pairs old gods, monsters, and aliens with human women who get exactly what they want and maybe a little more than they came for.
Brought up on fairytales read while hiding in the back stacks of her small-town library and sneaking in creature features at friends' homes, she always wanted a way to meld two fantasies into one. When not writing, she plays the banjo poorly, dreams of traveling the world, and avoids large crowds and loud noises.
Living in the southwestern US, she lets the outside heat permeate her stories and hopes they leave you panting.

This is, of course, a pen name. It is one of many I write under. You can find my other works as:

I have never read an erotica book that seems so wholly uninterested in eroticism of any kind.
Listen to the Shit We've Read: After Dark podcast episode on this book here

I could harp on how bad the writing is and how obviously unedited this work is, but at the end of the day the biggest sin of this book is that it is mind-numbingly boring. How does one take a title/premise like "Railed by the Krampus" and make it BORING? This is the most mechanical, lifeless, utterly uninspired thing I've read in a long time. It seems to be coasting entirely on the salacious shock value of its title (which it never lives up to) rather than any of its actual content.

I'm not kidding when I say there are multiple sex scenes in this [ostensibly erotica] book that I hadn't even realized had started and they were already over, and the vagueness with which the author writes some of these scenes comes off feeling almost embarrassed about it. What is the point of writing erotica if it's not going to have an ounce of intimacy or depth or feeling of literally any kind??? And it's not like that lack of intimacy is balanced out with a plot, because the plot is also so lifeless that at a certain point the author just starts skipping things. The premise of the book is based on tasks relating to the twelve days of christmas and the book flat out never says what days 9 and 10 are (it's implied, but never stated the way the others are) and fully timeskips over the entirety of day 12 just to bypass it. So genuinely what is the point of this story if it's not the plot and it's not the attempted erotica? The author attempts to insert some ruminations on women's independence and reproductive health, but everything is so surface level that it's just like...okay, that was a thought, I guesss.

And for as much as people love to push back against me whenever I talk about books being unedited and poorly written if that book happens to be self-published, there's something to be said for the fact that that's not a purely aesthetic issue. Poor line level writing can actually affect the way the story gets across, and that's definitely the case in this book. A narrative that already feels entirely unfeeling and mechanical is only made moreso by writing that is so chock full of sentence fragments, odd stops and starts, and nary a correctly used comma in sight that it comes off stilted and choppy.

Truly didn't think I'd have so much to say about "Railed by the Krampus," but here we are. I almost made it all the way through 2024 without a single one star book ;___;

"You are mine, Holly. You have been mine since the day I first saw you in that bauble. And you will be mine until eternity ends.”

Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️

⚠️Trigger Warning: Birching/Caning, Breeding, Fat/Slut Shaming

There is absolutely nothing in this world that chases away the darkness better than some good old-fashioned, nonsensical monster smut. The joy I feel every time I read a book like this is unparalleled. The only plot this story has is that Holly, the protagonist, makes a bargain with a version of Santa none of us would ever hope to see. That's it. There's nothing else. Except, of course, that delightful and insanely ridiculous smut. Also, the use of two incredibly popular Christmas songs in the story is a nice touch. I will never listen to them the same way again, but it doesn't matter. 'Santa Claus is Coming to Town' is a pretty weird song on its own. Besides, I actually liked how Twelve Days of Christmas foreshadows the true intentions behind the bargain requirements.

Furthermore, I had no connection with any of the characters at any point while reading this book. None. All I wanted them to do was have absurd sex with each other. To be perfectly clear, none of them are bad characters, even if they lack any real substance. Holly, the protagonist, is a decent gal. All she wants is to take care of her family by any means necessary. Luckily for her, those means involve retrieving random things ('Twelve Days of Christmas' song) for a beloved childhood-figure-turned-horny-god (Santa) and fucking him.

Moreover, Santa and Krampus are much of the same in terms of character depth. Their role is simply being enigmatic, horny for Holly, and having stalker vibes. Santa, in particular, gave the meaning of Santa is Coming to Town a whole other meaning...I know you know what I mean. 👀 The most special thing about them is their anatomy. Specifically, their forked tongues (yes, even Santa has it), and their...🍆s. Worry not, there is a detailed list after this review with everything you need to know on that subject. You're most welcome, friends. 😌❤️🖤

Lastly, my favorite thing about this book, other than the countless ridiculous Xmas-themed smut scenes, is that not even the romance has a plot. They just have weird sex a bunch of times, talk to each other for a total of 5 seconds every time they meet, and somehow, they fall in love. Admittedly, I was hoping for a throuple situation, but it was clear from the start that the story was going in a different direction, even though that is apparently a 'big reveal in the story.'

✨Solely for your information

The Krampus has:

• a mouth that tastes like cinnamon and wood smoke
• a 🍆 that is actually two, one black one red
• they are intertwined with two heads
• they taste like gingerbread
• they are prehensile
• his 💦 tastes like eggnog
• he has a long, forked tongue that he has a lot of uses for
• his tail is also long and prehensile and used in interesting ways

I’ll be very honest…there was decent lore and such in here, but when a book is called ‘Railed by the Krampus,’ my mind is now focused on one thing and that is sex. The writing was done very well and I loved the creativity here. Huge brownie points for the Krampus not just having a terrestrial phallus, but one that was a black and red, intertwined, functioning independently, but also as a duo. And his…well…essence? Is that a tactful word to use for spunk? Well, it tasted like eggnog. So that was all very enjoyable to see. He’s very possessive of his love slave, Holly (Why do all these Krampus eroticas have lead girls named Holly?!), who he frequently tongue bathes. So Holly made a deal with the Old Gods, which became quite messy and sexual, as Santa and the Krampus alternated using her like a glorified Chinese finger trap. The story had a ton of sex in it, but was more so fantasy-based, so anyone looking for strictly erotica will be disappointed. The concept of Holly completing tasks relating to the 12 days of Christmas was fun, and the story overall was a good time. My favorite line was when Santa says to Holly “…now let Klaus clap that fat ass.” Another good way to celebrate the holidays with enough plot and character development to not make you feel all pervy.

“Your downfall awaits.”

Grab some eggnog and a cozy blanket and read this baby ASAP. So basically the old gods are back up to their old tricks, but this time it’s less trick and more convince a mortal to collect some stuff with a holiday/Christmas vibe while we get naughty and nice together. I enjoyed it. If you enjoyed RBtEB, then you’ll probably enjoy this one as well. Set in the same worlds, but the story is a tad bit lighter. I like how we are back in the world, but it’s different in many ways. It’s cool to see this version knowing what I know from the EB books. ANWAY, if you want a holiday read that’s hot and different, with a sort of low stakes story will keep you interested for sure, even Railed by the Krampus is where you need to be.

CW/TW (from the front of the book): Birching/Caning, Breeding, Death of a parent (prior to book, mentioned), Explicit human/non-human sex, Fat shaming / Slut shaming, Postpartum Depression (prior to book, mentioned), Suicide (prior to book, mentioned), Use of emergency contraceptives/Unconventional Family Planning

DON'T JUDGE ME FOR THIS 💀
buddy read w/ Adrien

----

boring, confusing, gross

would have dnf'd if this was not a buddy read. honestly not sure why we didn't dnf anyway, bc we both hated it
our text chain was just us constantly trying to figure out wtf was even going on

my expectations were in the basement but this was so bad it wasn't even entertaining imo. after a while i was so bored i started skimming so much that i was just confused. nothing made sense anyway and it really wasn't worth the brainpower to try puzzling it out

you'll just have to trust me when I say that it actually has a really interesting premise. i was into the old god lore and holly's dark backstory. but everything about this was so poorly executed. we are both convinced that a large percentage of this book was AI generated

just read all the gory details in toointofiction's
review and skip the book.

If I had a nickel for every time I've read a book with a character who has eggnog-flavored cum, I'd have two nickels, which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it's happened twice.

Buddy read for the holidays and so glad we did 😂

While sometimes a bit confusing to me, I’m able to easily move past any lacking tidbits or thrown-in-there details because it’s a monster romance ft. the old gods. And I’m here for vibes, I’m not a critic lol

I LOVED the fmc, Holly, and how strong she is in her stance against ever being pregnant due to the gods not caring if the mother survives birth; only the child. It’s very clearly a nod to the culture of our health care system and country as a whole. She’s a survivor, and refuses to put herself in situations where she’s unable to predict her mortality rate. 10/10

Krampus is a mix of his version of lore and a typical “touch her and die” cinnamon roll. I liked the twist (that we all saw except for Holly lmao) of him vs. Klaus, and the end result even more so. Having an ~illustration~ of him amidst the book was top tier behavior from the author—I love her for it hahaha

Overall, vibes were great for a darker Christmas read—which I’m finding is more my preference than cutesy cozy holiday stuff. It’s also a quick and easy book, so I definitely recommend it to anyone curious 👀

“He sees you when you’re sleeping, he knows when you’re awake…”

Dalia Davies does it again just in time for the holiday season.

Holly makes a deal with Krampus in order to provide for her family and is sent on a sort of scavenger hunt in the 12 days of Christmas wherein she finds specific items and returns them to either Krampus or Santa in exchange for rewards.

And then Krampus grows too attached for this deal to truly ever end in a goodbye once it’s over.

The chemistry is palpable. The character are complex. The romance is spicy.

This is, first a foremost, a Dalia Davies stan account.

CW: explicit sexual content (including breeding), brief fatshaming, brief slut shaming, brief mentions of dead parents/loved ones, grief, brief mention of postpartum depression, brief and vague implication of suicide

I think I liked this one even more than the Easter bunny one.
Holly makes a deal with an old god. And once again we are back in the magical and horny world that also ends up with somebody getting railed.
Krampus has extra fun equipment and special flavoring. Good spicy times

Not really a spoiler but kinda so look away if you are sensitive to almost spoilerly stuff

I am still a little unsure about the second bargain situation. I feel like I need someone else explain it to me like I’m a baby. Was it good or bad?

I really wanted to love this one, yet I just couldn't. The characters are detailed, as well as the locations, yet I found myself having to re-read paragraphs.

So, it turns out Santa and Krampus are one supernatural God. Holly comes from a family that has ties to the supernatural world. When Holly needs some help, they show up. She is coerced into making a bargain with them/him. 12 days of it.

There are also a few questionable grammar/typo issues I noticed.

WOW

Ok I’m not sure what I was expecting but this was a quality story. The writing was seamless and the characters were engaging. Holly had a crappy life in many ways, but knew firmly what she did and didn’t want. She also knew her worth. Krampus and she fit together well.

Spice: 4.5/5

Triggers: suicide (off page), torture (low detail)

Not just spicy!

I actually really enjoyed this one for the best of reasons. The lore! It was very well developed on the “old gods” and also loved how they did the ending in regards to her feelings and choices.

This book lives up to the title and was definitely spicy. The spice was really all that made this book appealing by the end. There's this literal 12 days of Christmas bargain that is made where Holly has to deliver all the 12 days of Christmas to Klaus aka Santa. Definitely the most uninteresting part because it just involved a ton of tracking down an ungodly amount of birds. This book also wasn't the best edited book, so had to take a star away for that.

There just wasn't tension in this story. Pretty early on it is established that if she didn't bring all the items per day she could bargain her way out of it, which then begged the question, why are we spending time in this story tracking down these items?? Like just get me to Krampus, that's what I came here for.

There is some fuckery happening between Klaus and Krampus that I did not need. This story could have been simplified a bit more and would have been an even more fun time, because there's a bit of a darker tone that comes about that detracts from this fun frothy holiday romp.

Series: Valley of the Old Gods #3

⚠️Check triggers⚠️

When Holly makes a wish to sell her soul for coal, she was kidding, but Klaus, an old God, didn't get the joke. She agrees to his bargain and will get everything her heart desires once she brings him twelve different gifts. When Holly comes to bring Klaus her gifts, she meets Krampus, who has a bargain of his own that heats things up between the two of them.

I'm a big fan of the Easter Bunny's story, so I was excited to come back to this world again. I love the way Dalia writes this world and the way she imagines up twists and turns. I enjoyed Holly and Krampus' story. They connected right away and Krampus was determined to do whatever he could to please Holly. I liked that Holly had a community to help her complete the bargain. The spice was good (unsurprising because Dalia always kills it with spice) and I just love a monster with a special 🍆👀😂

I read this on my Kindle with a free trial of Kindle Unlimited.

I subscribe to Kindle Unlimited off and on, and sometimes when I have it, I read stuff I'd never want to buy in person as an actual book. "Railed by the Krampus" definitely falls into that category. As one can guess, it's mostly spice, but the author did a good job of coming up with a decent storyline. The female main character makes a deal with Krampus, and she has to fulfill a series of tasks. The tasks are based on the 12 days of Christmas, and when she fails at a task, well she gets... railed. That is all.

Santa Baby

Reading this I’m must say that I do have a thing for Krampus. I just can’t think of Santa the same now…lol But if I picture Santa from Rise Of The Guardians, then yes yum yum. It was very different than what I’ve read. A very different world. I do recommend

50% surreal fantasy + 50% Krampus flavoured smut = 100% the most bizarre and intriguing romance/erotica I’ve ever read.

Holly is on the verge of starving and freezing so to save herself, her twin sisters, and the woman they’ve taken in, she makes a deal with an old god - bring him 12 gifts and after 12 days he’ll give her everything she wants.

It follows a version of the 12 days of Christmas carol and starts off with her having to catch a whole lot of birds but things get tricky at the higher numbers.
She gets rewards when she completes a task.
She gets punished when she fails.
Smut ensues.

Krampus has a very long, flexible tongue; two peens that spiral around each other to form one mega-peen, and a tail.. 🤣🙈

I absolutely, positively love that

Okay. So some things weren't very clear in the book but in the afterword they are explained. Holly's parent's deaths isn't really explained in the story. Also her stance on babies is more explained in the afterword than the story.

The whole Casaran aspect I am still confused as it seems to be alluding to another book/story and it isn't clearly explained.

Krampus/Klaus was more like Dr Jekyll, Mr Hyde than anything else.

Apart from that, I loved the 12 days on Christmas storyline.

I'm not giving this any rating, just cause I read this as homework for the first episode of my upcoming podcast hahaha
And because I feel like my opinion (from a person who reads monster smut for shits and giggles, not because she likes it) doesn't need to affect people who enjoy this book/this type of genre, and therefore I would lower the rating for it if I gave my truly honest opinion.
That being said, I think my friends know my opinion on this series, but just to remind you - Bunny porn got 1 star, this would get one too.
Reasons: find out in my podcast LMAO shameless promo 😂😂😂
