The Beta and his Mate

Rate this book
Blaine's life has never been simple, being born a rogue meant she had to face certain threats a pack wolf could never even dream off. But when her family disappears without a trace her life goes from bad to worse.

Xavier has always hated rogues ever since that fateful day when an attack on his pack killed his entire family. He vowed on his parents graves that he would avenge their deaths by killing every rogue that dared cross his path.

But what happens when their paths cross and forced to be in each others company? Will Xavier get over his prejudice? And will Blaine allow someone else into her life having already lost so much?

✅Fated mates
✅Enemies to lovers

Xavier is introduced in the alpha and his mate and is Jay’s beta. Xavier is one of the few unfortunate wolves who suffer from an incomplete blood bond a kind of mate bond that was so strong, a person couldn’t reject their destined mate even if they wanted to. Xavier hates rogues because his family was murdered by a group of them…Blaine was born rogue. What happens when their passes cross?

I loved watching both Blaine and Xavier grow throughout the story and how the author found creative ways to show their backgrounds. I was not expecting that plot twist at the very end ! I’m so happy that Xavier got his happy ending

I really liked the beginning. It slowly got more interesting as chapters went by.

The hatred and love between Blaine and Xavier is written well.

Spoiler Ahead!!

I really liked the illegal wolf fighting rink idea and I think it was executed well. Although I wish it had a better reason for the guy starting it instead of him just not being able to the girls mom. Like I wish he was just an evil person.

Here’s a quote I like:

“There hasn’t been a day gone by where I regret finding you and getting to love you," he continued.
"I love you so much Xavier," I replied as a lone tear escaped my eyelashes. "Thank you for teaching me how to love, and for making me feel whole again after feeling broken for so long. You taught me what it was like to live, and for that I could never repay you. You mean the world to me, and when we get out of here, I can't wait to spend the rest of my life showing you just how much you mean to me."”

Fabulous series end

Thoroughly enjoyed this and delighted in the fact that Xavier managed to finally find his blood bound mate. Blaine was a rogue due to her family being kidnapped. She'd spent 2 years trying to find them and, whilst running away after being attacked she found herself on Jax & Anna's pack grounds and realised she was the blood bound mate of their Beta Xavier.
The remainder of the story is interesting and closes this series brilliantly.
Well worth reading

Dnf at 40%
I think I lost my chance to finish this book. I finished this book over 3 years ago, and I decided to pick up book 2, because I recently realized I never finished the duet (now a trilogy with book 3 released in 2026). However, I can't finish this now.

Normally, I can overlook spelling/grammar errors, but this book could truly use another round with an editor. Also, the plot made no sense. This was a werewolf romance between a pack beta and a rogue wolf. Not a bad premise. Sadly, the beta went through a traumatic experience losing his family to a rogue wolf attack, so when he realized his mate was a rogue, he wanted nothing to do with her. On the other side of the coin, our rogue was born a rogue after her parents left their packs after a failed arranged marriage and an attempt on her dad's life. Years later, her family was kidnapped, so she was on her own when she met her mate. This could have been a great enemies-to-lovers story, but there was no yearning or tension, and after the initial conflict, the two of them are perfectly fine being with each other at least up to when I dnf'd.

This book wasn't bad per se. It was just boring, and I didn't care about the rest of the story. There was a lot of telling, not showing, as well as time skips. We didn't get to see much of their bonding or her interacting with the pack she apparently joined off-page, but the story told us they did bond and worked well with the pack without any issues. I did find this weird, especially with how she was originally introduced to the pack and the history of the pack with rogues.

Enjoyable

Well rounded characters, lots of action. Not quite as predictable as some, thankfully, and no sex. It really makes a difference. Vocabulary and grammar errors need attention, especially when writing in the pastxtense, eg when to use drunk and not drank. Attention to detail would have earned this five stars. It's not Dickens or Shaw but it's certainly one of the best ones in this genre. 1

good book!

This was a good book! I enjoyed it. Pretty quick read if you’re a reader lol. I enjoyed it. I also like the authors notes on how she became self published after posting on watt pad & the readers encouraging her to post the story. I remember reading stories on watt pad growing up and wishing it was an actual book to read. So I’m happy for this author! Storyline was good. Fated mates, happy ending.

Good second book

I love reading first books in a series but often find the second ones missing something. Not this one though the characters get you from the first page and don't let you go, sometimes you forget that they are not real(except for the wolf thing) . I was a great read and I look forward to seeing more from B.E. Wakeford

sweet story

Loved the HEA ending and the way there weren’t a ton of fights going on at the same time with too many names to keep up with like so many books about wolves have. I liked it very much

Sorry

Super super cheesy, storyline predictable just like book one. I really tried to hear it out but it was nonstop what is he feeling and what is she feeling at every micro second after every thought and mind message.

Good read

Good story with excitement and romance in the beginning when the mates were finding their way to each other. It got slow in the end. Could have summed up the ending in less chapters.

Good story

I throughly enjoyed the storyline and continuing line of Jax and Anna. Again the only reason I can't give 5 stars is because the amount of typos are a distraction for me! Great story though and I would love to see where Hannah and Daniel's story leads.

Good story

I enjoyed Blane and Xavier's story. There was a bit more violence in this book than book one, so the reader should be forewarned. Good characters. Interesting plot. Overall entertaining read.

A little more boring than the first, although it was really interesting to see more of Annabelle in her role.

Content: an illegal fighting ring, innuendos, all the typical stuff for werewolf romances. No f- or s-words though, and no explicit scenes.

edge of my seat

There are multiple typos and a few sayings namely “fool proof” spelled as “full proof” instead, but otherwise the story is amazing! Much slower burning than the first book in the series, but once you start to get into the main action you can’t stop.

It’s a very sweet romance. Very low on the spice factor. It could have had more detail and suspense but overall it was a good read

Enjoyable read

Enjoyed the story and the fact that it was a continuation of a story where you had already read about some of the main characters, a really good read!
