Twenty-two year old Corrine Peyton is one of Boston’s richest debutantes. Beautiful, educated, and motherless. Left a substantial inheritance from her late-mother’s estate, she could easily support herself for the rest of her life and never have to worry about marrying for any reason other than love.
Unfortunately, for Corrine, her stepfather has designs on her fortune. In order to get control, he plans to have her declared incompetent and sequestered to a mental hospital.
When she’s unable to find a solicitor willing to help her fight her stepfather’s charges, Corrine makes the decision to run away. A chance discovery of local mail-order bride service leads her to apply. They quickly find her a match. An Oregon rancher is looking for wife to help him run his home and business. He makes a formal offer through the service, which Corrine accepts. However, she has conditions.
Will Aiden Thomas accept his potential bride’s demands? And, when Corrine’s stepfather sends Pinkerton men looking for his runaway meal ticket, will Aiden be willing to put his life on the line to protect her?
Nancy Fraser has been writing since she was a child, most often on walls and with crayons or (heaven forbid) permanent marker.
Since first becoming published in 1996, Nancy has received numerous five star reviews for her futuristic, time travel romance.
She’s also published in short contemporary, historical romance and is contracted for a series of ten vintage historical romances set during the Golden Decade of Rock & Roll (1955-1964).
When not writing fiction, Nancy likes to spend time with her five wonderful grandchildren.
Quick and enjoyable book. This was a very good story about a young woman who has a snake for stepfather. After what happened to a trusted friend Corrine knows she may need to leave where she is at. On a suggestion she heads west as a mail order bride there is a bit of twist here. Meeting Aiden and his friends things kind of change for her but the past will show its ugly head but never fear she has someone who will dealt with in a grand fashion. I enjoyed the characters and what happened to the snake. It was a very historical western. I did receive a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
She is a powerhouse of a character for a historical romance, bright, driven, smart and prepared to be devious when needed. She is very good at reading people and situations....the one situation she completely underestimates is becoming a mail order bride....but she doesn't let it phase her and embraces everything about her situation. A great character! I read this on Kindle Unlimited.
The story is included in the Rescue Me series of Mail-order Brides but will read as a stand-alone, as all the other books do. Corrine Peyton is still coming to grips with the passing of her mother. The family attorney is ready to read the Will but meets with Corrine early to share some information and give her a letter from her late mother. Corrine’s stepfather is angry—and an overheard conversation with nefarious intent has her needing to leave Boston to be safe.
At Trickling Brook Ranch in Golden Springs, Oregon, Sadie and Curt are pushing for Aiden Thomas to consider marrying. Sadie even has a friend, Winnie, who is a matchmaker and convinces him to apply.
Corrine will travel to Chicago and stay with Winnie Peterson. The plan is only until she can safely return back to Boston. Instead, it is decided to keep her safe and hidden, she will travel to Oregon to become a mail-order bride to a rancher—but will he be willing to accept her terms for the marriage?
I loved the story, the mystery, and the suspense, but best of all, the feelings that developed between Aiden and Corrine. Corrine may come from money, raised in society, but she is level-headed and kind. Aiden is impressed with his little city bride and how she doesn’t look down on the ranch and the work involved. When trouble comes their way, he is ready to protect his wife, and keep her safe.
This is a sweet and heartwarming story of Corrine, a young lady who has a devious step father who will do anything to steal her inheritance. Her only escape is to run and she heads West to become the MOB to Aiden; however, she has some stipulations to the marriage. Once she arrives at the ranch she becomes a favorite with the ranch hands, as well as the neighbors. But then, trouble comes to call when a Pinkerton agent hired by her father arrives in town. Will Aiden be able to protect Corrine from the danger? Will the couple completely disregard the stipulations agreed upon and find a HEA? Be sure and read this outstanding story to find out. I know you will enjoy this story as much as I did.
This was a concise 1890-era story about a young Boston heiress who becomes a mail-order bride to escape her greedy stepfather's attempts to steal her inheritance. With the help of a Chicago matchmaker personally known to her housekeeper and his, Corrine travels to a small town near Eugene, OR to become a rancher's wife.
This book moved quickly to grab my attention and kept me readinf to the very end. The characters were cery well written and sympathetic. And they avoided the pointless contrived drama of taking deliberate offense at the other person not spilling every detail of the past in the first two hours after they met.
I received an ARC copy of this story directly from the author and voluntarily chose to share my review.
It's not safe for Corrine to remain in Boston; her stepfather will stop at nothing to take control of the family fortune. She becomes a mail-order bride - with some conditions, to give herself an out from marriage when it's safe for her to return home. Her heart has other ideas. Aiden is the rancher who has agreed to her terms, but he falls in love with her the moment he sees her. He's forgiving and protective when trouble comes near. The best thing about Corrine is that although she comes from "society" in Boston, she fits right in on Aiden's ranch and with their neighbors Golden Springs. I received an advance copy of the book from the author, and this is my honest review.
Corrine's stepfather plans on committing Corrine to an asylum so that he can "steal" her family's money and gain control of the businesses her parents worked so hard to establish. Corrine escapes to Oregon to become a mail order bride figuring that she'd be able to get an annulment. However, things don't work out exactly as she planned.. This is a sweet story and I enjoyed reading it.
Another great story in this series. I believe this is the first time I have been introduced to a multiple author series that I have enjoyed every story told. And each one gets better and is also able to stand alone. We shall see if it continues, I truly hope so.
A really sweet story that makes you want to go live on a ranch! I loved the chicken and dumplings as it was the same kind my grandmother made! There was nothing as fun as standing on a chair and cutting the dough in their adobe two story ranch house! Great storyline and loved the ending about painting the bedroom!
And just think, people think money will solve all their problems. Well, maybe you will have problems in more comfort, but you will still have problems as Nancy Fraser shows in this story. Corrine has plenty of money, but she also has a target on her back. I really enjoyed this story and the happy solution to her problems.
Nancy Fraser never disappoints. I love her characters and authenticity of the storyline right down too the food of the time period. I look forward to her next release.
Corrine has just inherited her Mothers sizable fortune. Her Step father is trying to take it from her. So she signs up to be a mail order bride hoping to hide out for awhile. But things don't exactly go as planned. Sweet HEA romance
This story could be read even by a preteen. It touches lightly on life on a ranch and on the problems Corrine had in life. It was a thoroughly entertaining read.
Corrie is very smart and raised by a very intelligent mother. A shame her mother had to put up with an evil cruel husband. Plans against Corrine by the evil man and his lawyer force her to meet a future she needed to greet with open eyes and an open mind.
I loved Corrine's story! I thought the idea of a rich debutante needing to flee, then becoming a mail order bride, a great storyline. Also included is mystery, intrigue, and, of course, romance. Read Corrine to find out how she traps her evil step father and finds her happily ever!
