Evangeline Anderson is a registered MRI tech who would rather be writing. And yes, she is nerdy enough to have a bumper sticker that says “I’d rather be writing.” Honk if you see her! She is thirty-something and lives in Florida with a husband, a son, and two cats. She had been writing erotic fiction for her own gratification for a number of years before it occurred to her to try and get paid for it. To her delight, she found that it was actually possible to get money for having a dirty mind and she has been writing paranormal and Sci-fi erotica steadily ever since.
Outcast is a very sweet and erotic futuristic sci/fi. It is also rather syrupy and predictable, with cliched characters. A naive young woman victimized by her society's severely repressive customs, and a rough around the edges, with a heart of gold hero who comes to her rescue.
Evangeline Anderson's writing is always solid and this is no exception. It is not my favorite of her books, but it was entertaining nonetheless.
Outcast by Evangeline Anderson follows a fairly standard and predictable good girl falls and is saved by bad boy with a heart of gold plot line. Naturally everyone lives happily ever after. Despite this predictability there was enough character development to still make the reader care about what happened to Sayana and Caleb the two main players. Having said that the story could have benefited from the depth and richness a little padding could have brought. I would have enjoyed knowing more about Caleb's motivation because the glimpse we got sounded interesting. Overall a competently told story which contained just enough to engage the reader and the sex scenes are just hot enough to make it feel worthwhile. I did enjoy this read but did feel it could have been better. Review by Ali H. 4 Divas
I must admit I wasn't sure about this book when I first picked it up. The story line just did not seem all that appealing to me. However I could not have been more wrong. I was hooked in the first few pages and didn't put it down until I finished.
Evangeline Anderson has an amazing imagination. I really enjoyed the futuristic world she's created. And I fell in love with her lead characters Sayana Nakamura and Caleb Joiner right away. The submissive qualities of Sayana and her race really appealed to me. Caleb is an all around very sweet and sexy leading man. I found myself thoroughly engrossed in their relationship together. Not to mention the sex scenes (wink, wink) absolutely no complaints in that area. The story is very well balanced and believable. An unbelievable story is my biggest pet peeve.
I would definitely recommended this book. If your looking for a short and sexy yet heart warming read, this is it. My only complaint is that I wish it had been longer. I wanted to read way more about Sayana and Caleb. Plus a longer story means more room for sex! And I could have definitely used more sex scenes involving these characters. I had the pleasure of reading the book *Outcast* by Evangeline Anderson. Normally I would not choose something in the futuristic genre, so this took me out of my comfort zone. I was pleasantly surprised. The author's words had me captivated within the first page.
*Outcast* begins with a woeful tale of an exquisitely beautiful woman. Sayana Nakamura is thrust into a situation where self destruction was her only hope. When her few options of survival are reduced to one, she does the unthinkable and prepares herself to be auctioned. It is then, that she meets a stranger with compassion. Caleb Joiner is bewitched by her innocence and determination. Together, they spin a tale of suspense, excitement and ultimately, undying love.
I give *Outcast* a 4.5 Diva rating. It's better than a 4 but not in depth enough to be a 5. If it were just a little bit longer, it would have soared off the charts. I could see myself reading this again. The storyline caused my pulse to rise at times, both with suspense and arousal. I give it a spark heat rating.
All in all, it was a fantastic, quick read that kept me on the edge of my seat until the very end. Very well done Review by Ginger lily 4.5 Divas
I loved the story! Left me wanting to know more about what will happen to Sayana and her sisters in the future. I can see multiple books about the sisters and them finding love. I would have like to learn more about this new society and planet which is the only reason I didn't give it five Divas. Caleb was a wonderful Knight in shining armor! Very hot innocent erotica! Would love to be a fly on the wall when Sayana obtains more carnal knowledge! I can see this being a great series of books but want more detail and information about the world they live in! Sayana Nakamura is a member of one of the most important houses of the planet Kanasum with the silver eyes indigo hair to prove it. But after her family name is tainted, it is expected for her mother, her sisters and herself to kill themselves to restore their dignity. Yet Sayana doesn't want her little sisters to die and she's willing to do anything to save them, especially after her mother kills herself. Sayana decides to go to the casino ship orbiting her home planet and maybe try to win money to her sisters. Yet in the casino, she has to do the unthinkable - sell herself to a complete stranger in a sex auction. It's really a double sword because if she doesn't do something, her sisters and her will always be shunned and everyone else will expect them to kill themselves but if she sells herself to earn credit then once she's back in her town, everyone will know because a woman's eyes change from silver to blue once they have sex and that would brand her as an outcast. But she's willing to risk it so she decides to participate in the auction.
Caleb Joiner is an ex-smuggler. He's got time to kill and money to burn which is how he ended up on the casino ship in the first place. Since the first time he sees Sayana, he's drawn to her beauty and delicate personality but it's her determination to save her sisters that really wins his heart. He tries to talk her out of her being in the sex auction but she's stubborn and will not back down. Instead, he has only one choice, bid and try to win her so she doesn't have to sleep with some stranger for credits. He's not doing it to sleep with her, although he does think she's beautiful, he's just trying to help her and he succeeds in winning her. Yet Sayana won't just take the credit from Caleb and say thank you. She is determined to go through the whole deal, have sex with Caleb in exchange for the credit and she's already attracted to her so it doesn't sound like a hardship, apart from the being outcast part.
Outcast is a wonderful story about finding love when and where you least expected it. The character's emotions fly off the page and their intense attraction to each other made this story a great read. Sayana's a very strong, brave character willing to do anything for the people she loves. She faced challenges and didn't let them get the best of her. She seems innocence yet jaded in a way. Caleb's the perfect match for Sayana. His loyalty and willing to help an essential total stranger really adds to the story. Their attraction to each other is sweet yet hot at the same time. I really enjoyed reading Outcast, it was a lovely story about overcoming obstacles and finding love.
Sayana's upbringing can be compared to the Japanese, that I thought that the setting is in Japan. Anyway, her resilience amidst adversity is really commendable, but I wish she doesn't say Sondakcho almost every chapter. I also wish that this is a lot longer than it is and that the development between Caleb and her not too fast paced. Anyway, I like that she have her happy ending.
Honestly, I don't have a lot to say. The plot just didn't do it for me. However, I should say this book is only 90-something pages (.epub format on a Nook). I paid $4.49 for this book and I feel that was a bit steep. Take from that what you will.
/sigh of relief/ A welcome break from the author's most favorite theme EVER. I like the whole world building- reminded me of Cowboy Bebop; and the Japanese cultural elements (the protagonists, seppuku etc) interwoven into the love story.
