Maverick federal employee Sammy Pintella, obsessed with uncovering the fate of her MIA father, makes a startling discovery while rifling through some inactive government files. A dozen faded, old black and white photographs seem to prove the existence of a secret U.S. military base built in the frozen wasteland of Antarctica during the height of the Vietnam War. With her sister Conner, a Satellite News Network reporter looking for a big story, Sammy sets out to find the What was a Special Forces MACV-SOG unit, supposedly operating in Vietnam, doing in Antarctica? Why has the existence of this base remained top secret for more than 25 years? Is there a link between the secret base and the equally mysterious disappearance of their father? Aided by ex-Special Forces officer Dave Riley, Sammy and Conner, with the blessing of her news network's flamboyant president, head for Antarctica to track down the mysterious military installation called Eternity Base. Caught between Sammy's fixation and Conner's career ambition, Riley's job becomes keeping them all alive - to tell the secret of Eternity Base. Riley and the two sisters, engaged in a classic struggle of survival against the elements, must not only endure in the harshest weather on the planet, but must also stop a foreign commando unit sent to steal the secret hidden beneath the ice.
Besides my own interests, I read whatever my wife tells me to read-- she's a voracious reader and has wide-ranging tastes as my reviews show (she also always has the TV remote and she's always right about what to watch). I read a lot of nonfiction, mostly for research. Some of my favorite books are Lonesome Dove, Mystic River, LOTR, and an array of science fiction classics including the Foundation series. Our house is covered with books, although I finally broke down and started reading eBooks, strangely enough on my iPhone. Since I carry it pretty much everywhere, it means I always have an entire library of books with me.
I'm a West Point graduate, former Green Beret and a New York Times Bestselling Author. I've sold over five million books. My newest series begins with New York Minute, a thriller set in New York City in 1977.
I love using history and science in my books. My Area 51 series pretty much had me rewriting our entire history of civilization.
HERE is the modern “news” anchor, as envisioned by Bob Mayer, wherein “modern” humanity seems to have placed faith, and who plays an important part in this book.
“…She wasn’t a woman you glanced at, but rather a finely made specimen who caught your attention and held it long enough to create admiration. Her facial features were elegant and classic—thin, finely sculpted nose; wide, evenly placed dark eyes; and a generous, well-defined mouth surrounded by a soft, creamy complexion that caused fingers to clench with the desire to touch. Conner’s trademark, though, was her hair—thick, black, and cut in a short geometric style. She had Sammy’s height and slender body, but, as if God couldn’t find enough gifts to bestow, Conner also had a full bosom that her slim hips only accentuated. She was beautiful and she knew it. Although her looks mattered little to her, she was always aware of their effect on others and used that to her advantage.…”
“…This story could help her career... In this business one tended to be paranoid. There was always someone right behind you on the ladder waiting for you to screw it all up so they could stomp over your shattered career to take your place….”

A creative story of intrigue and betrayal set in Antarctica
This story continues to explore the complete soldier that is Dave Riley. Here, he gets roped into helping someone Colonel Pike feels obligated to protect. This leads to a convoluted story of international espionage that then results in our hero and his friends having to face an onslaught by a well-prepared enemy attack force. The resulting chaos enables Dave's allies to rally, and reach deep into their character (with Dave's expertise and guidance) to find tree resolve necessary to try to recover from a bleak situation. As a bonus, there is some nice descriptives of Antarctica.
This lively narrative traces stories back to their inception back during Viet Nam. The base is reminiscent of the one built in Greenland which was a complete failure due to the fact they had no idea how much the ice moved around. The maintenance was excessive and the project cancelled shortly thereafter. Bob Mayer’s writing style is detailed and evocative pulling the reader through the story at an an unrelenting pace. Good story and excellent writing!
I enjoyed reading this story. Great story line and a well written book that kept me captured for hours, was hard to put this book down, and it was sad when it ended too soon
Once again, Bob Mayer does not disappoint. An interesting, engaging & entertaining read. Antarctica is brutal, harsh & a world away. A good place to hide Eternity. Except …..
Interesting read, and hard to put down. Just one more example of inept politicians, deep pockets and no long term oversight (unfortunately, fiction is oft times long term truth)! Thank you!
I love reading your books trying to work who the enemy is. Thank you for a brilliant read. This is the 3rd book I have read so far & I am looking out for more. Thank you.
This was entertaining. Kept my interest throughout. A bit too unbelievable though, and some annoying characters. Overall it was just ok for me. Nothing too memorable.
his is my first Bob Mayer book - the description pulled me in so I downloaded a free copy during one of the Amazon promotions and wasn't disappointed. Since I was unaware that Dave Riley is the main character in a series of books (found this out when reading the reviews after finishing the story), I didn't have a benchmark to compare any of the characters to and accepted their abilities for what they were. I was a little disappointed with Sammy and expected her to exhibit more of the skills that her father taught while she was growing up - then accepted Riley's leadership role when took over the group. I was intrigued by the storyline and wondered how a project so huge could be kept a secret since 1971...some people had to die to preserve it. We also learn that money is power and everybody has a price.
Overall, Eternity Base is well written, entertaining and a compelling read; capable as a stand alone book within a series. It does have some twists and turns along the way, but Mr. Mayer kept me guessing until the very end. Highly recommended!

Good fun. Like any technothriller, there are a few "Really dude, that's NOT how these things work" moments. But it's almost impossible to avoid those. And there was one glaringly obvious solution to the plot's central problem that I can't believe no one thought of, as many smart people as there were in the party of good guys. But that having been said, the story was fun and engaging enough that I was able to push the "I believe" button easily enough. As I said, a good, fun read. :)
I loved the book. it had me enthralled every page. I loved the story. my husband read this book and recommended it to me. he is not a big reader so I just had to find out what was so great about it. the characters were so real. I even dreamed parts of the book. I will definitely restore of Mr Meyers books.
Very interesting story; well done. I like Bob Mayer, he can spin a good yarn. Secret bases, missing nuclear weapons, North Korea, Russia, the United States of course, and more spooks than you can shake a stick at. Good stuff!
The best of the Green Beret series yet. Riley is the man. Mayer's story was at least plausible and completely exciting. I enjoy the accurate military details but the story is not over loaded with them. Keep 'em coming.
