This short novella is set in a world where shifters are out in the open. In fact, some of them are running the show.

The government of the day sounds almost communist in its rule of the populace and shifters are needed in law enforcement to keep the peace.

Bailey has been assigned as a coroner and doesn't particularly like it but it pays the bills. No mention is made of whatever skills are needed for this job.

Bailey's uncle, Senator Flynn, wants to get married and doesn't need a niece hanging around so he sets about finding a husband for her. He selects Van, head of the Modartha, and virtually gives Bailey to him. She has no say.

They rapidly fall in love, the rebellion is quashed and HEA.
