The City of New Bedford, long considered the Whaling Capital of the World, set out in 2001 to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the publishing of Moby Dick with an informative book for students. This is that book. It has three main parts: a biography of Herman Melville, a nonfiction section about whales and whaling, and a graphic novel of Moby Dick for children. It's an ideal introduction to Moby Dick for young people. And the occasional elderly librarian.

I read moby dick last year in the 8th grade along with some of the others including the adventures of hucklebury finn. I found moby dick very interesting and It was something i could keep reading for hours. My favorite part is when they stuck the spear into it. i loved all the action in it and when the whale would attack. i really liked this book and would recommend to all.

Moby Dick is a famous American novel published in 1851 by Herman Melville who was a very famous author at the time. He had led a very interesting life himself travelling on whalers, journeying around the world experiencing the miserable life aboard a ship He jumped ship several times having experiences with cannibals, living in Tahiti, Hawaii, amongst other places. He used these experiences in his writing. Show first page ship Acushnet, on which Herman Melville sailed (only 27 foot long).

In this comic book adaptation we meet Ishmael, Queequeq, Ahab, and of course, Moby Dick. Ahab, the captain is obsessed with finding the great white whale who took his leg on a previous trip. He is blind to everything else. (Page 14) The stranger weaves…

The complete story unfolds with fascinating details on life aboard ship, how whales were captured, and the dangers the crew experienced. The book also includes information about Herman Melville, facts about whales, and the history of the whaling industry.

If you’ve always wondered about what the story of Moby Dick is all about, this beautifully illustrated book will bring it to life.

I'll add this one to my stock of comic books to use as teaching aids for when my students can't hack it with the real book.

I have read a lot of Jules Verne books and I got interested in adventures book and I thought this book was about an adventure in the seas but I was wrong
It is a great book I can see the very poetical writing and the amazing development of the history, however I was expecting something else like a very intense climax or sg least a decent final but I just got a ton of definitions and information I didn't want to know
I don't know what else I have to say, but is not a bad book at all and it gets you thinking about the deeper meaning of the story of Ahab and Moby dick

Book is eloquent yet it is boring. It still delivers a good plot and mildly captures attention.

I read the comic book because I needed to reread this for a class and I attempted Bert Reynolds rendition of the audiobook and it was unlistenable.

I enjoyed this book a lot, Its about the Ocean and thats about all I know about this book. I remember something about the Whale, The Whales nickname was Moby Dick, the Whale is known for its great size and his ability to be very dangerous to hunters trying to kill him. I believe the crew on the ship tried to hunt Moby Dick, But Moby Dick destroyed the ship. I give this book a 5/5 stars because I dont really know what else to compare it too, I just really liked the moments of suspense leading up to the intense moments in the book.

Honestly, I don't see a great philosophical meaning behind this story but it is great merit is the narrative. It is so well written.

It basically tells the story about a captain that wants to revenge against a whale that made him loss a leg and although he was given many chances to him just give up he still tries and makes everyone of his (including himself) to die.

With just this synopsis it doesn't see a very good story but the narrative is so good (especially in the beginning) that I can see why this book is so popular.

Bought at the New Bedford Whaling Museum in Massachusetts, this book is an excellent tool to introduce youngsters to Melville's tale. The illustrations follow Huston's 1956 Moby Dick movie with Gregory Peck performing as captain Ahab. Whenever you are in MA, USA, go visit this excellent museum!

This one makes a nice complement to the one done by Will Eisner. It has a bit more information of Herman Melville and on the practice of whaling. OTOH it has much more of an old-school comic feel and indeed almost looks like a Classics Illustrated.

This had lots of facts about the author and whales. I enjoyed the graphic novel of the book also. I might read the original Moby Dick some day.

Read this purely out of peer pressure. Imagine telling someone that you haven't read Moby Dick... you might as well be dead. And i loved it.
