Whatever the weather, every day is a playful day for these two friends. With rhyming text and appealing illustrations, this second title in the 'Bunny and Bee' range is perfect for bedtime.
Sam William’s expressive, appealing and soft illustrations have appeared in numerous young books, including Ballet Kitty; (Boxer Books) Cold Little Duck, Duck, Duck (Greenwillow) and Little Red by Sarah Ferguson, The Duchess of York (Simon and Schuster).
He is the author of Talk Peace and That’s Love (Holiday House). Sam divides his time between London, Brooklyn, and the east coast of England. His latest book, 10 Blue Butterflies has just been published.
3+ I liked it, but it was missing that little bit extra to make it a REALLY liked it read. Still, it's a sweet series that I'd recommend to younger pre-readers. Maybe for fans of Olivier Dunrea?
The story is simple - two little friends/siblings Bunny and Bee live in a tree house in the forest and have a fun routine for their days. I really liked the "whatever the weather" message, as I live in an area which does not have the best weather. Kids (and adults!) have to get used to getting outside whatever the weather here too, so Bunny and Bee set a great example! The easy rhyme of the text isn't irritatingly sing-songy and the pictures are sweet. No genders are used (Bunny and Bee are almost always as a plural) and as mentioned, it's not really clear how Bunny and Bee are related (at least in this book in the series), so it's an easy story to related to any little one's day. While not specifically a bedtime book, it does run through the pair's whole day, ending with a good night page. Might be one I could pull out for my younger storytime, especially for a theme on being outside or for playing games. But would definitely be a good one-on-one read aloud, especially at bedtime.
This is the first Bunny and Bee book that I've read. My two year old loves it. The two characters Bunny and Bee are charming little friends. The illustrations are simple but cute and the rhymes add a bit of music to the story. I'd definitely recommend this happy story to parents with young ones.
