Delightful, well-paced story, that somehow, because of its simplicity, pulls you in. Not many kids books that I have read describe in such a detail the decision making of a child, and the simple wisdom of the child in determining whether someone can stay with us. I enjoyed the journey feeling sad for a girl with no friends to feeling elated at the many friends she collected by being her thoughtful self. The other aspect of the book is determining what makes a good pet. My kindergartener liked the beginning but not the end, because the bee would not come back. We really needed a happy ending where the bee and Fiona stayed friends forever. Related book: The Bee Man of Orn.
