This all-new edition of the popular book (2000 title-Practice of Local Government Planning, 3e) will continue to be the valued resource for preparing for the AICP exam. This new edition helps the reader understand the complexities of planning at the local level, and prepare to make decisions in a challenging environment. The eight chapters in Local Planning, roughly spanning from context to applications, consists of articles written by a wide range of experts academics, practitioners, clients, and observers of planning. Many examples of planning in action illustrate central principles.
Excellent planning overview. The book is a bit unique in that each chapter begins with a main section dedicated to planning principles and values, and then the rest of each chapter includes articles driving down into the overarching points. Some articles are nothing but case studies.
The book is a bit dry, and I assume that's because it is meant as a textbook, but the principles and knowledge within is excellent. My only critique is that there's not as much planning history as I would have liked, with most of it being confined to the first chapter.
Lots of info about planning, but not as information-dense as other references I was using to study for the AICP exam. Too much fluff to make for efficient studying. I will not be finishing it.
