3.5 This book was surprisingly effective. I thought it might be an average Vegetarian guide. It isn't. I read this in conjunction with his "7 day High Raw Challenge" (You can find "High Raw" on his website for FREE at http://renegadehealth.com/blog/).
I've completely changed my way of eating and in only 2 months have felt the profound outcome of adding much needed nutrients to my diet. I started off following his recommendation and ate mostly raw fruits and veggies. I now add cooked chicken and fish to my dinners because I found myself craving them.
The recipes themselves surprised me. Some recipes ask for 5 oranges, 2 pints of strawberries, 4 bananas and three cups of spinach. It sounded outrageous in the beginning, but I followed them anyway because I knew that I didn't have that many nutrients in body. I now also modify the recipes every once in a while to make only 2 cups instead of 1 liter as he suggests.
Smoothies, soups and salads may not entice you, but if you try some changes for 7 days, you will be surprised at how great you feel. I still enjoy eating a beautifully crafted meal at restaurants, but on regular days, I enjoy my breakfast and lunch smoothies. I think they taste pretty good because the fruits hide the bitter veggie taste. I miss the texture and smell of a cooked meal sometimes and I won't give up the communal nature of eating just to stick with a mostly raw meal plan. But, giving this dietary change a chance has forever changed my eating habits. I have a lot more energy, got rid of the sluggish feeling, and am overall more positive in outlook.
Good compilation of information. Easy read, finished it in 3 days. Kevin's no nonsense style of writing offers the reader a sensible approach to make positive healthy choices at their own pace. It's not just about eating raw foods.
