I was never much of a swimmer before reading this. I found it a helpful guide for understanding the basics, even though I'm still not able to do the breaststroke or butterfly. I'm not sure how well a book can teach you these things, but videos haven't helped a lot either. You probably need a good teacher. However, this seems like the next best thing, and has given me a lot to think while I'm practicing my form at the pool. I'm sure I will return to it as I get better. It seems to be a simple and straightforward guide for anyone who didn't swim on a team growing up and who would just like to do it for fun and exercise.

It worked. I got in the pool, learned how to swim. This is my first summer of triathlons and swimming is my least difficult event. I'm glad I read all the techniques of this book and learned the essence of swimming. Look forward to honing my skills more throughout the winter when it will become easier to get a free lane in the lap pool again.
