After binge-watching beauty videos online, a shy comic book fan masters the art of makeup and sees her social standing skyrocket as she becomes her school’s prettiest pretty girl overnight. But will her elite status be short-lived? How long can she keep her real self a secret? And what about that cute boy who knows her secret?
This volume hit way harder than I expected. I came in thinking I was just getting more of the classic high school glam and love triangle chaos… but suddenly I was knee-deep in grief, guilt, and boyband trauma. It’s giving K-pop heartbreak and I kinda loved it???
I watched the K-drama back in 2022 and always meant to pick this up, but I kept putting off the manhwa on Webtoon (ads = evil). But I finally dove in—and honestly, the drama feels richer here. The pace is still slow (as always 😩), but the emotional payoff in this volume made it worth it.
🎤 Love Triangle 🌸 Grief and Healing Arc 🎤 Flashback‐Heavy Backstory 🌸 Friends to Rivals (and Maybe Back Again) 🎤 Beauty Standards / Makeover Theme 🌸 Coming-of-Age (Continued)
We get SO much backstory. Suho, Seojun, and Seyeon’s bond?? It broke me. The flashbacks? The regret? The unspoken love? I wasn’t ready for the rawness of their pain. These three boys carry more depth than people give them credit for, and this volume really pulls that out.
Jugyeong is still navigating the pressure of beauty, image, and popularity, but the heart of this book is in the boys' healing. And even though it gets heavy, there’s this warmth in the storytelling that makes it easy to keep turning pages.
Would I recommend it? Yes. Especially if you're here from the drama or you're craving slow but meaningful character arcs.
Fav moment: Suho finally confronting his past with Seojun. 💔 Least fav: The pacing still drags sometimes—I wish it would breathe a little more.
✨rating: 3.5 stars Beautifully messy. Sad boys and slow growth. I’ll be back for more.
Happy to have found a new comfort series that I’m fully invested in because I like the characters so much! If you like k-pop then this is the volume for you 😅 There seems to be a bit of a love triangle that could possibly happen here? Another guy at school hates Suho but seems curious about Jugyeong. But I will always ship those two together, don’t want anyone to get in the way 🥹🖤 Also horrible how Jugyeong’s Mother treats her compared to her other siblings. The blatant favouritism is so cruel!
WOW! A ver qué sucede ahora!!
The plot is thickening AGAIN! I know I'm supposed to root for Jugyeong and Suho but I cannot act like Seojun isn't making my heart flutter. He's such a good brother to Gowoon, seeing him flustered is so entertaining, and he's fine as HELLLLLL!!!
In this volume we delve into Suho and Seojun's past and I never expected the plot to get so dark! I appreciated the frankness of seeing what it's like to be harassed as an idol from the other side of the screen, and I was moved. Of course this all balanced with Yaongyi's trademark humour so things stay balanced instead of overwhelmingly sad.
I can't wait to see volume 4.
Thank you so much, Wattpad WEBTOON Book Group, Webtoon Unscrolled and NetGalley for providing this eARC in exchange for an honest opinion.
The simplicity of ‘True Beauty’s storyline can be a double-edged sword to me. There are moments when I find myself craving more complexity and intricate plotlines, as the narrative can, at times, appear somewhat predictable. However, an unexpected twist occurred—I've grown fond of the characters. What was once perceived as simplicity has transformed into charm, and now I eagerly anticipate discovering what unfolds next in their lives.
Surprisingly, this comic has become a perfect companion for moments when I desire nothing more than to immerse myself in the enjoyment of a cozy and pleasant story. The characters, with their newfound charm, have managed to capture my interest, making me genuinely curious about the twists and turns that lie ahead. In essence, 'True Beauty' has evolved into a comforting and delightful escape, offering a perfect blend of simplicity and character-driven appeal.
This book is probably my favorite so far! We finally learn about the tragic past between Suho and Seojun. The story is so sad... The themes present in this one may be constraining for some people I'm getting more and more attached to the characters. I have to admit that the author almost made me shed a few tears!
J'avoue que l'auteur à faillit me faire verser quelques larmes !
This volume is so sad. I read this sometime last year and this is just a refresher as I try to finish the series on WEBTOONS. I love the characters and even though this isn’t about KPop, it does give a very realistic depiction of behind the scenes for wannabe idols.
Volume 3 actually ended up being really cute, because we get to see Han Seojun's sweet side! I'm also happy it's only Vol. 3 but he's already made up with Suho. Can't wait to see what's in store for the next volumes.
Although I was very disappointed to find out that the hardcover editions will be discontinued so future volumes will only be on paperbacks :( I've been loving the quality of the hardcover editions and now my collection won't match!
I feel like each episode is just cramming in another random tragic plot with loose connection to the main character. I would like to see some growth in the main character and centering more on her journey.
