A game master’s biggest challenge can be prep time. With busy lives in mind, this book provides new and exciting content to help GMs save hours of time preparing for a game. Inside, readers will find twenty-five “Big Bosses,” along with insights into how they use their minions strategically in order to decimate any heroic threat that might cross their paths.
The Game Master’s Book of Villains, Minions and Their Tactics provides tips and strategies that readers can use to “drag and drop” a BBEG into a new or existing game, with full color illustrations, lore, stats, combat tactics, and special abilities for each exciting entry. You’ll also find detailed tactics and combat strategies for more than 75 minions and bosses found throughout the 5E game.
In addition to providing three exciting one-shot adventures, the book also shows you how to create your own original villains, minions and monsters – the best of the worst your game has to offer.
Aaron Hubrich gives RPG and D&D GM's some inspiration with these villains, cronies, weapons, skills, backstories and ways to boost your campaign with an array of characters. From Medusa-like goddesses to cannibals to vampires, there is something here for every taste and just how dark or powerful these villains are.
In truth, I had picked up the book to try and find inspiration for a creative writing project and this did give me some ideas (was looking more into backstory and see if I could find what makes my antagonist tick or give backstory into the reason for who they are). Hubrich's book provided many good examples.
The illustrations for the characters are exquisite and expertly done, all tied with a universal-look and design. Equal parts elegant, monstrous, deadly, and deliciously evil!
Gods bless the Game Master Series for rescuing this book from out-of-print hell. Not only is it available once again, but it's greatly expanded and significantly improved. The gorgeous art that you expect from the Jetpack 7 product is retained and the overall length of the book is DOUBLED.
Excellent addition to any 5E collection. And just in time for the gifting season.
Fun and well written, this book aligns with my general theory of dungeon mastery. That is to say, pick a good antagonist and you're halfway there. It's the baddies that make the adventure, so design a good one and you're off to the races. This game supplement sketches out how to make a good villain, good minions and some general tactics for classic monsters. There are some sample villains each with a short blurb and enough to make them a one-off, short term villain or recurring villain either as the focus of a campaign or as a part of your ongoing campaign. There are also some boxed adventures if you need something pre-made.
