Competition

Unlike some other reproductions of classic texts (1) We have not used OCR(Optical Character Recognition), as this leads to bad quality books with introduced typos. (2) In books where there are images such as portraits, maps, sketches etc We have endeavoured to keep the quality of these images, so they represent accurately the original artefact. Although occasionally there may be certain imperfections with these old texts, we feel they deserve to be made available for future generations to enjoy.

Colonists are no longer responding to contacts. The ship sent to investigate find them all dead. What happened? What will happen to the crew of this ship?

I enjoyed this story. I only wish more background had been provided. It would have been even better knowing more about each character.

When pioneers are mysteriously killed on a newly settled planet, doctors are sent to discover why. This short story, first published in 2009, tells the story of scientists under pressure to perform and the consequences. Technically this belongs in the science fiction genre but isn’t at all what you would expect. Little time and effort is expounded on character and plot building making the tale a real task to follow. Probably most readers will say a word of thanks that the book is so short….hardly a positive endorsement. With this said, I hesitate to condemn it to a single star score but doubling the number would be going too far. I feel one and a half stars would be a fair assessment which puts Competition on the losing end in my evaluation.

In this short SF story little time is spent developing the characters(which in sci-fi isn't as bad), The plot has a potential which wasn't fulfilled. I don't know if the REAL mechanics of competition and evolution is misunderstood or just ignored by the author to make the story more appealing.
Overall, it is bellow average in my opinion.
