Abandoned as a small child, seventeen-year-old Brannon Reeves has lived and worked with her aunt, Lila, tucked away from the modern world in a forest cottage. But an attractive stranger, an accusing news sotry, and the discovery of a long-kept family secret shatter her simple life overnight. Thrust into a world of betrayal and persecution, she must face an enemy she never knew existed. Will she suffer the same fate as her mother? Can hope, courage, and love conquer evil?
I echo the recent praise for Robyn Schow's Where the Wind Sings. As a reader, you will enjoy getting to know Brannon as you root for her success. Her aunt portrays qualities of a loving guardian who has sacrificed more than you'd guess. And although the plot has a hint of fantasy, you find yourself wondering if it just might be true. Where the Wind Sings not only has a gripping story and believable characters, the writing style is fresh and engaging. The reader becomes immersed in the book, turning page after page without noticing the time go by. And when you come to the end, it's like saying good-bye to a new friend. Thank goodness the sequel is coming soon!
What a well-written novel! Brannon, the heroine of the book is quite a rare jewel. She is a fascinating character in a fascinating world that I could not get enough of! I’m so excited to find out that the second book to this series is coming out in the fall! Although this was written for a younger crowd I could not have enjoyed it more (I’m in my 30’s). I was really in awe of how Robyn M. Schow was able to create such a strong sense of personal respect and values, including the sacredness of even a simple kiss. What a breath of fresh air it is, to see this encouraged in a book written for the upcoming generation. I wouldn’t hesitate to have a 10 year old read this – in fact I would encourage it! And in the same breathe I wouldn’t hesitate to highly recommend this to my girlfriends, mom, or grandma. I loved the cleaver and funny banter that was weaved throughout the novel. You will absolutely cherish the journey you take with Brannon as she begins her path into womanhood. Where the Wind Sings was tense and exciting, dreamy and irresistible, and all at the same time it was absolutely inspiring. YOU HAVE TO READ THIS BOOK!!!!!!
I thought this book was really entertaining. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this and getting to know the life of Brannon and her aunt. The twists and turns the events took kept me captivated. I loved the author's use of language in this book. She included quite a bit of imagery and description. Even though this was a fiction book, the author included nonfiction elements in natural medicine and ways of healing. It was very interesting to learn about. I loved this book and would definitely read it several more times.
I'm not much into fantasy books- hate the vampire books, not really interested in Harry Potter- so I guess I really didn't realize the genre that I was getting into when I picked up this book. I guess it has to do with the "willing suspense of disbelief". I'm just not willing to suspend my disbelief in the supernatural. Just based on how well written it was, I would give it 4 stars. But because I hate the subject matter, I would actually rate it lower. Since this is the author's first book, I will give her the best score possible.
I thought the author did a great job with the development of the main characters personalities and foibles. I felt like the antagonist's character could've used more development. It seemed like there was only the physical description of the antagonist and a tiny bit of her activities to describe her. I felt like there could've been several more characters added to make the book more interesting.
The author has a wonderful vocabulary and writes beautifully. She takes the time to educate her readers when she dives into subjects the general public might not know a lot about (herbal healing.) The author did a good job of not revealing things too quickly about Brannon's family and that certainly holds the reader's interest well.
The pacing of this book was a little off. When things were supposed to cover a long period of time, there seemed to be only a short paragraph of it. For example, a dinner with a handsome stranger that the main character anticipated and had a lot of anxiety about seemed to fly by too quickly. Before the characters said "boo" to each other, the main character is already cleaning up the dishes. I would've thought the main character would've analyzed every second what was said and done at that dinner. Also, a date with that same stranger tubing down the river was only covered in a few paragraphs. I was startled when the author mentioned that they had spent almost the entire day together. There just was enough material there to make it feel that long.
Overall, it was a fine first novel for Robyn Schow.
The book Where the Wind sings by Robyn M. Schow is a really great book because it has a very original and different story-line. The characters are people in our everyday lives. Brannon, the heroine of the book is quite a rare jewel. She is the main character, I really loved how Robyn (the author) can create such a strong sense of personal respect and values, including the sacredness of the most simple thing as a kiss. I loved reading Brannon going through her womanhood. Brannon's aunt Lila portrays qualities of a loving guardian who has sacrificed more than you can guess. You may know this book has a fantasy plot, you find yourself thinking the story is true. I became so immersed in the book, I found myself turning page after page without myself even noticing I was half way finished with the book. And when you come to an end, it's like saying goodbye to a new friend. I highly recommend this book to my fellow peers.
This was written by a friend of mine and my husbands family. I am soooo jealous. She just became an author and is fantastic! I read this first book and she hooked me on the first PAGE! This is a really fun read for those who don't mind the WITCH spin! I enjoyed every minute of it and can't wait to read the second book in the Brannon's Path Series! Robyn is talented!!
Great first attempt at a novel by a friend of mine. Very much in the same vein as the Twilight novels. She does a great job at getting that marvelous giddy feeling of infatuation in her novel (one of my favorite parts of the Twilight series).
LOVE LOVE LOVE it , so very well written , it had my full attention from the first moment , It was for sure a keep reading all through the night book ! and I LOVE the Author!
