Rate this book
"What's new about the new food pyramids?"
The release of the USDA's new food pyramids has given rise to thousands of questions. What's "new" about it? How does it work? What nutritional information is relevant? Add to the questions and controversies the fact that the only source for information on the pyramids is the USDA website, which is difficult to use and unavailable to the millions of Americans without computer access. This authoritative, easy-to-follow guide is the first to explain the new findings clearly, including each of the pyramids and how to choose one that best suits particular health needs.

*shakes head in disgust and sighs* My mom got me this book for Christmas because I am considering a career in the nutrition field. I do not even know where to begin. The USDA is not a health organization and it does not give out healthful advice on nutrition. The USDA stands for US Department of AGRICULTURE!!!! It is to support the economy of major industries like the meat and diary industry. It does NOT care about the welfare of American citizens. It cares about supporting the economy (which is important but NOT as important as human health). The only reason that dairy is a food group is because of the USDA. Nutritionist should NOT be recommending 3 cups of dairy a day. If anything most of our food should come from fruits and vegetables because you NEVER hear of anyone getting cancer/fat/sick/heart attacks from too many apples or too much lettuce. But you know where you DO hear of getting cancer/fat/sick/heart attack?! From eating too much meat/dairy. If anything we Americans need to cut back on our meat/dairy. But the USDA recommend MORE dairy (it was recently switched from two cups a day to three). Why?! Because of freakin marketing schemes and government lobby's interfering with human health all for the sake of money. I mean, it makes a lot of sense considering the fact that the dairy industry makes millions each year and the fact that because of the high cholesterol and saturated fat content that dairy has being decreasing slowly. So, they want to bring it back up. UGH!!! I can't go on. There are just so many things WRONG with modern nutrition that it is downright annoying. At the end of the day, you can't eat too much fruits or vegetables. They won't kill you. Too much meat and diary can though.
