In the world of werewolves, to harbor submissive desires is looked upon with disdain. To be gay and submissive is a double threat. To satisfy his craving, Nathaniel seeks acceptance at a BDSM...and is quick to receive it. Master Raphael's interest in the beautiful wolf is quite obvious to the club's clientele, and it isn't long before the two are paired for play. Yet, Raphael isn't known exactly for monogamy. Could Nathaniel turn him into a one-man, or one-wolf, Dominant?
Myc has been writing professionally since 2005, solo and with Shayne Carmichael. Genres include pretty much anything (no steampunk yet), though Myc is well known for paranormal stories. When not writing, Myc is usually playing PC games, reading, editing, watching movies and shows on Netflix and Amazon, or spending way too much time on Facebook.
For my first time reading Mychael Black and Shayne Carmichael I really enjoyed it. The story was short and sweet at only 28 pages but any writer worth their salt can do so much with as much.
Nathaniel is a were and wants to serve. He meets Master Raphael and wants to be mastered, by him.
The thing about D/s and shifter stories are the basic elements. Pain, pleasure, domination and submission. To establish these traits so quickly without feeling rushed was great! The fact that the D/s relationship was discussed, tested but not truly established was refreshing. Not all D/s themed stories have to have the rules written. The subs can buck and not be broken. The character dialog made we wish for a longer story. I'd have love to see where this ended at page 100, 200, or 300.
4.5 of 5 really. Looking forward to more from both authors and under their various pen names and genres.
This is a very short story but with a nice setting and a little surprise for me; it's part of the HeatSheet by Phaze, usually a series of short stories with a common theme, and this one was the shapeshifter nature of one or both the main characters, and for this particular story, there was a warning for the readers on the Bondage and D/s content. So I was really expecting one of that usual story on pleasure / pain play, and even the submissive nature of the shapeshifter was not an original thing, since who read paranormal romances is quite common with the role of the omega males in the pack.
But the surprise is that the BDSM elements of the story are almost non-existent, true, the story is set in a BDSM in live club, where scenes and public display of dominance are common things, but our naive little puppy wolf finds an unexpected haven inside it. The first night he is welcomed by Raphael, the owner of the club, and so he is free from the usual charade of finding a suitable Master for his submissive nature. And when Raphael realizes that Nathaniel is not only a virgin to the BDSM world, but to any sexual experience, he decides also to exempt him from all the usual "testing" steps of a new relationship between Master and pet. It's not said that they will not take place in the future, but in this short story we are exempted with Nathaniel as well: the story turns on moving from BDSM to sweet romance, the only sex scene is almost "vanilla".
Another thing that remain in the frame without taking center stage is the shifter nature of Nathaniel. Actually, if not for a very short moment, we have no proof that Nathaniel is a shifter, and he never once shifts. The shifter nature serves to the authors only to give a boundaries more for Nathaniel to overcome, since it's not in a shifter male to be submissive. Knowing that I'm not very fond of BDSM stories, I'm not at all disappointed that this story turned to be more sweet than anything else, and instead, I wouldn't mind to see more developed the shifter nature of Nathaniel.
Anyway, for a short story, it is very well developed, more centered on the characters than the setting (and so it's maybe explained why the BDSM content remained in the shadow).
I’m fascinated by BDSM in romance and this blurb caught my eye.
Dislike/like (ending on a high note):
Dislike~ At 10,000 words, there was not a heck of a lot of story to sink your teeth into. It really only left an aftertaste and with it the sense there will be a sequel. If that’s the case, I’ll prob’ly be buying it to see what happens next. In other words, the approach worked. *sigh*
Like~ I quite like the premise of a paranormal which dealt with an omega werewolf who is both gay and submissive. It is a bit different and has lots of potential. There wasn’t a lot of world building/setting in this short other than what the reader learns through Nathaniel and through Raphael (strangely enough since he appears to be human) so hopefully there will be more in the next story... if I’m right about a next story that is.
Dislike~ The kid works up the nerve to join a BDSM club, finds a Master during his first visit (*doublesigh* I know. A little easy.) and said experienced Master decides not to give into the pretty’s submissive needs straight away, but makes love to him instead?? There is a why (not spoiling it any more than I already have), still the BDSM voyeur in me was NOT happy.
Like~ At this early stage, I’m quite liking the characters. Nathaniel especially seems like a smexy, sweet little sub and not the least bit twink-ish, which is a nice change.
So, what I think:
This is something that fans of these authors will snatch up. It may also interest those intrigued by the paranormal/BDSM lifestyle mix.
For those not wanting to get invested in yet another mini-series, you may want to give this first one a miss and wait and see how the series develops.
‘Tasting’ is my version of a mini-review where I talk a (very) little about what I liked and disliked about a book as well as who I think the story will appeal to. Oh, and I’ve added a bit about why I picked up the book in the first place – sometimes this can be interesting to know.
I enjoyed the story in and of itself for the most part. The editing is nearly flawless and the characterization is great. The main problem comes for me when I got to the end...I found myself feeling as though it just...stopped. There is one really hot sex scene where the wolf's submissive nature is about to be trained, and then the master decides to just "treat him as a lover" instead of as a submissive. This seemed unlikely and unsatisfying to me. I bought the story from Books on Board, but went to the Phaze website to see if perhaps there is a continuation and have found nothing so far. This left me feeling incomplete and I HATE that in a story!! Please write the rest of the wolf's training!

Very short and intriguing. It appears like it should be an intro into a series but nothing out yet. There is a lot more going on than there needs to be for just a short story (the whole lycan/werewolf actually has zero value to this story) which is why I'm thinking the authors plan more. I found it interesting enough that I'll keep watch for more books and probably buy them but, as a stand-alone, it is very short and there is actually no sex between the MC's (there is one public bdsm scene between a domme/sub).
Great writers but it needs more story length or stories to follow for me to give it 5 stars.
Very short read. DS relationship was almost non-existent. MCs mostly talked rather than acted. The ending was strange and I kept looking for at least two or three more pages. "Bound..." has a "sketch" feel, rather than a complete, stand alone story. The cover is really creepy and what's up with the names? O.o
