Ripple Effect

Jawara is a poor, lawless, African country, where American money and corruption rule; where most tribes are primitive and fiercely distrustful of the white man. When Carson Bodine ends up lost in the middle of the jungle after a violent argument with his soon to be ex-lover, he faces unbelievable odds in order to survive.

In the midst of chaos, Carson meets a group of philanthropists who do their best to help the Jawarans in any way they can. In the days to come, Carson finds himself working alongside Jack MacKenzie, leader of the motley crew, dealing with hostile tribes, a deadly virus, the theft of priceless diamonds and more, all while re-evaluating his life, and finding his place in the unexpected, both in Jawara, and with Jack.

This took me ages to read - a combination of tiredness and an uninteresting plot.

The protagonists are both very nice guys; the friends are nice people and the villains are nice. In fact, apart from a few, even the natives are nice. It's a fairly long story with a lot of incidents. Unfortunately, that's all they are - one incident after another and none of them registering on the suspense scale.

The romance doesn't develop. It's just there - the same way Carson ends up in Jawara. Nothing seems to develop in this book - everything just 'happens' at that point as if the author was just writing it down as the idea came. Carson and Jack come across as very ordinary people and there'd be nothing wrong with that except that Jack is an ex-Special Forces guy (or maybe a SEAL, I can't remember) and he's just way too nice to be real.

I generally enjoy these adventure romances but Ripple Effect was too lacking in the suspense department despite a lot of action happening.

I'm always enjoying, re-reading this book, that's why I'm glad I came across this story today. The main storyline is great, she is packed with action, full of adventure and doesn't disappoints till the end. We have even a real slow developing romance with dramatic affect and real felt emotions. Carson and Jack were great intensive couple, I liked them.
A reader can't say this is a dull plotted story, because maybe we could actually say it's to full with action and drama. Even so I know this story is one of my favourites and will always stay that.
