In "The Handwriting on the Wall," prophecy expert David Jeremiah shows how an understanding of prophecy, specifically that in the book of Daniel, opens a pathway to dynamic, faithful living today-with confidence and hope for the future.
Dr. David Jeremiah, founder of Turning Point Radio and Television Ministries and senior pastor of Shadow Mountain Community Church, felt God’s calling on his life at a very early age. Born February 13, 1941 in Toledo, Ohio, Dr. Jeremiah was raised in a family deeply committed to ministry. At the age of eleven, Dr. Jeremiah and his family moved to Dayton, Ohio where his father, Dr. James T. Jeremiah, was the Pastor of Emmanuel Baptist Church, and in 1953 became the President of Cedarville College in Cedarville, Ohio.
As Dr. Jeremiah was sensitive to God’s leading in his life, he followed in his father’s footsteps. In 1963, Dr. Jeremiah received a Bachelor of Arts from Cedarville College. In that same year, Dr. Jeremiah married his college sweetheart, Donna Thompson who also was attending Cedarville College as a business major. He went on to earn a Masters degree in Theology from Dallas Theological Seminary in 1967. He completed additional graduate work at Grace University and was granted the Doctor of Divinity degree from Cedarville College in 1981.
In 1969, Dr. Jeremiah began Blackhawk Baptist Church in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and developed a Christian school grades K through 12. In the 12 years he served as pastor, Blackhawk Baptist Church grew from 7 families to 1300 members. He also launched The Bible Hour television program.
Dr. Jeremiah heeded God’s call, and in 1981 he and his family moved to California where he became the senior pastor of Scott Memorial Baptist Church, now Shadow Mountain Community Church.
Shadow Mountain Community Church is one of the largest churches in San Diego County. It is also the home of Southern California Seminary and Christian Unified Schools.
As Dr. Jeremiah began his ministry at Shadow Mountain, he felt God’s calling to continue the broadcast ministry he started in Fort Wayne. In 1982, Turning Point Ministries became a reality.
Today, Turning Point's 30-minute radio program is heard nationally and internationally on over 1800 stations and translator/satellators. In recognition of Dr. Jeremiah’s commitment to teaching the Word of God, he received the Broadcaster of the Year Award in 1999 from the National Religious Broadcasters (NRB), in August 2002, received the Award of Merit from the Western Chapter of National Religious Broadcasters for Excellence in Broadcasting and Faithfulness in Service, and in 2006 Turning Point received the Best Radio Teaching Program Award. Dr. Jeremiah has served on the Board of Directors for the NRB since 1996.
Turning Point launched a television program in 1982 in San Diego and went nationwide in 2000. Now seen around the world through cable and satellite technology, as well as on terrestrial stations all across the United States, conservative estimates suggest that close to 200 million homes around the world have access to Dr. Jeremiah's Bible teaching each week. Turning Point Television offers a half-hour Bible study message and a full hour worship service with the same great preaching. Carried on several national and international networks such as TBN, ION, and INSP, Turning Point Television has most recently been added to Middle East TV Network and BET, the Black Entertainment Network.
Dr. Jeremiah is a sought-after conference speaker for organizations around the country. He frequently speaks at Cedarville College, Dallas Theological Seminary, Moody Bible Institute, Billy Graham Training Center, Phil Waldrep’s Senior Adult Celebrations and numerous NFL, NBA and Baseball chapels.
Along with his speaking schedule around the country, Dr. Jeremiah also finds time to fulfill another passion in his life, writing. His books are always gripping and right to the point. Some of his books include Escape the Coming Night, The Power of Encouragement, What the Bible Says About Angels, Prayer The Great Adventure, which brought him The Gold Medallion Award in 1998, God In You, Gifts from God
In his down-to-earth style Dr. Jeremiah in his novel “the Handwriting on the Wall” explores the Book of Daniel as Daniel and his brother Jews face incredible challenges after capture and taken into exile by Nebuchadnezzar. Holding fast to their unshakeable faith they face death in a furnace of fire, in a den of hungry lions and by refusing to bow down to the image of the Conqueror.
Dr. Jeremiah in his book unravels the mystery of Daniel’s prophecies of future events making them clear and uplifting in this time of uncertainty. Inspirational and timeless in its messages, readers come to the conclusion that they can trust God’s Word rather than the sensationalistic headlines of today’s news.
Dr. Jeremiah’s style is clear and practical, his understanding of biblical prophecy giving confidence and hope for the future based on the profound and unshakeable Word of God. Well-written and insightful this is a must read for all those fearful of what tomorrow will bring and of the road ahead in these tumultuous times. The message is clear: God is in charge.
I went into this book having just done an inductive bible study of the book of Daniel. I'm not crazy about Dr. David Jeremiah's writing style. Particularly in the first half of the book I felt like he sounded a bit like a grouchy old man going off on tangents about things he didn't like.
He does have some good stuff to say but I definitely don't agree with everything... He frequently presents things that are heavily debated as fact and doesn't even address that there are other views.
I used this book as supplemental reading while doing the Beth Moore Bible Study on Daniel. I found many things helpful in seeing the book of Daniel more clearly. Perhaps greatest was the span of life during while Daniel was highly elevated as a ruler in a pagan nation. The prophecies contained in Chapters 8-11 of Daniel were more clearly explained. Some of the conjectures about the present end-times left me more puzzled but were worth considering. Overall, a good book.
A terrific, down-to-Earth, assessment of the Book of Daniel. Dr. Jeremiah makes short of work speaking Biblical truth to a contemporary audience, particularly to the newly converted. He wastes no time in establishing who Daniel was, and the sort of person Daniel might be if he were a contemporary figure. New converts will find Dr. Jeremiah’s approach welcoming while remaining firmly in Biblical truth.
Chapter by chapter he dissects Daniel’s actions and his prophecy in the face of unimaginable circumstances, all the while holding true to his God. I offer 4 stars, with a polite suggestion toward five, given Dr. Jeremiah’s lean toward pre-millennialism in his approach to eschatology.
Beyond that, he does a great service plain speaking to a contemporary audience and society in great need of a Savior. Dr. Jeremiah’s entire catalogue is a terrific place to start before making the jump into the works of others like Sproul.
Not only do I enjoy the easy conversational style of David Jeremiah, I thoroughly appreciate the detailed analysis of each section of t he book that he had compiled. He makes the prophecies of Daniel understandable and relevant to us in 2018. Daniel lived in challenging times. We do too! Daniel learned to cope and rise far above his circumstances. The book of Daniel - with help from this book by David Jeremiah - can help us rise above our circumstances as well.
I found this to be a very helpful book on understanding the book of Daniel. However, I probably don't share Dr. David Jeremiah's certainty about his understanding of end times. I like his conclusions, but I'm not sure I can earnestly say that I'm convinced scripture spells out so much about the rapture and the tribulation. I'm one of those who is willing to admit I just don't know how it all turns out and I won't until it happens. At that point, we will all be able to look back and say truthfully that's what scripture said would happen. But for now, we see through a glass darkly.
Excellent commentary on the Biblical Book of Daniel. Dr Jeremiah plainly and in laymans terms explains the prophecies contained in Daniel. Daniel is a difficult book of the Bible to understand but Dr. Jeremiah's clear explanations and logical teaching linking Daniel's prophecies to today's current events made the Book of Daniel much clearer for me.
This book provide insights into the prophecies of Daniel in a way that even the Layven could understand I think that it should be a good idea for everyone to read this book
Encouraging and exciting! Prophesy and observation clearly identify the end times are soon to be upon us. We should all be ready, and seeking to reach & teach those that we can.
San Diego pastor, author and broadcaster, Dr. David Jeremiah predicts, “In the Tribulation the book of Daniel will be the most important reading matter for many people.” In short, Jeremiah writes, “There is a time yet to come when an understanding of the book of Daniel will be even greater than it is now.”
In this 251-page, 2019 publication, the New York Times best-selling author and his co-writer, C.C. Carlson take the reader on a tour of the secrets found in the prophecies of Daniel. Included here are the exploits of the Babylonian King Nebuchadnezzar as well as the adventures of Daniel and his three friends, including those unforgettable tales from a fiery furnace and a den of lions.
In the first eighteen chapters, Jeremiah and Carlson focus on “the accurate fulfillment of prophecies through Daniel.” In other words, based on Nebuchadnezzar’s dreams and Daniel’s own visions, the reader will rediscover events of world history that those dreams and visions predicted but have also come true. In the final two chapters, the authors “move up to the stage in history where the prophecies are for a time yet in the future.” In Daniel chapters eleven and twelve, “The angel of prophecy takes Daniel from about two hundred years in the future to more than two thousand years ahead,” to the time of the Antichrist.
Jeremiah and Carlson have given us an extremely readable guidebook to the events leading up to the end of the world as we know it. What could be more important, more compelling than that? Do you want to know “where is our world going?” All the answers are on these pages. The very simple takeaway here? As noted in Jeremiah and Carlson’s introduction: “God is in charge.”
A very insightful profile into many aspects of the prophet Daniel.
I would offer one caution as to the author’s view of a pre-tribulation rapture. He speaks of the a pre-tribulation rapture as if this concept is a settled eschatological viewpoint when, in fact, there considerable evidence that this is not biblically sound teaching.
I would invite those interested in opposing viewpoints to explore the writings of Craig S. Keener, Michael L. Brown, and Ryan Speakman.
The danger of emphatically teaching of a pre-tribulation rapture is the very real possibly of misleading a multitude of believers.
What an extraordinary disappointment it would be should the author’s interpretation of end-time events be mistaken, and it must be stated that there is ample evidence that this author’s interpretation of a pre-tribulation rapture is mistaken.
David Jeremiah has written a book on the Prophet Daniel who gave prophecies for his exiled people, the Jews. But some of his prophesies are for our time and the future. Dr. Jeremiah combines both the history of the Prophet, as well as the prophecies he made. Clear words with explanations as he understands from his study and the life He has led. Dr. Jeremiah believes that the book of Daniel will be read and understood even by those who live during the Tribulation period of history in the future.
This was an in-depth study about the book of Daniel. He did a great job explaining the context of the book as well as what the prophecies are referring to. It was a bit surprising that he briefly spoke about Martin Luther and did not mention that Luther himself was no friend to the Jews and removed books from the Bible. These books are in the Catholic Bible, not the Protestant Bible. The Maccabean Revolts are in 1 and 2 Maccabees.
I am listening to the Bible in the Year Podcast and recently finished the Book of Daniel so the material is fresh in my mind.
This was a fascinating read that removed some of the cloud of mystery behind the cloak of the prophecy of Daniel. David Jeremiah provided credibility to God's revealed word through the prophet Daniel by demonstrating the fulfillment of the earlier prophesies which leads one to conclude that the ones left open will indeed be fulfilled as God promised.
Excellent book explaining the entire book of Daniel. The first part of the book is history, and the rest is prophecy; prophecies that have already been fulfilled in history, and then prophecies of the end times. An understanding of the book of Daniel, as explained in Dr. Jeremiah's book, helps us to see what is going on in the world today, and is a message of hope for the believer in Jesus, as well as a motivator for believers to share the gospel with others, before it's too late.
How does the Old Testament connect with the present day? What does a man like Daniel have to do with the coming of the Antichrist? Pastor Jeremiah lays out a thorough study of the Book of Daniel with a cup of Revelations and a dash of the morning paper. If you missed Pastor Jeremiah's broadcast series on Daniel, this book will bring you up to speed. If you watched the series, this book will reinforce and even extend your understanding of the ancient text.
Daniel was only a character in Bible stories for me before reading this book. I am amazed with all the prophecy and God's revelation to Daniel of things yet to come, not only for Daniel and his people, but also yet to come for us. The peace that come with reading this book is to know that God is in control and all we need to do is stay in his will.
I found this book to be an interesting explanation of the Bibilical book of Daniel. Dr Jeremiah uses a conversational method of writing so it seems that he is speaking. I recommend this book to everyone interested in knowing about what is going to happen at the end times!
A fascinating read! An in-depth study of end times prophecy as it covers the Prophet Daniel's journal! Highly recommended for students of God's Word who want a "user friendly", Biblically based, comprehensive study. Dr. Jeremiah presents well with excellent writing and sound research! Great book!
This was a great book to explain the book of Daniel. Dr. Jeremiah really broke down the harder parts. While I still have many questions, I believe that is what Jesus wants from us. To continue to study and learn. To have our eyes opened while the end draws near. Look up people, our redemption is coming...SOON!
Timely commentary on the rapid cultural changes being made by the spirit of Anti-Christ politicians, educators and false ministers relating to the end of the age spoken by Daniel 9 - 12 in the Old Testament which will be fulfilled in Revelation 18 - 19. Recommended for Bible students and followers of Jesus Christ.
Dr. David Jeremiah walks through the book of Daniel with a thorough explanation, pondering points, and even some of his wondering thoughts of his study and work in the book of Daniel. Very worth the read before or after reading Daniel in the Bible, A MUST DO FOR YOURSELF, and supplement with Jeremiah’s book.
I loved this study. It has greatly increased my knowledge of the end times that are soon approaching. It was easy to read and follow and easy to understand. I read each chapter of Daniel along with the chapters. I love how much I understand it even more. Daniel was more than just a man in the lions den!!!
this book has opened up the prophecy of Daniel in a way that gives the historical fulfillment and the urgency of the future in one place. it describes the events that have taken place and events that will come. it does not spell out names and dates, but shows how it will unfold. i pray the world would read this book and be led to Jesus.
The authors lifts the mystery over the Book of Daniel. The End Times prophecies are clarified and the wonder of God's promises are laid out. The scholarly and processing approach to this vital biblical book is incredible. This is handy and readable.
If you have wondered about the end times, here are your answers
This book is full of information about the end times. If you have been wondering why God is going to destroy the earth, here are your answers. Dr. Jeremiah explains what will happen and in what sequence.
Good book. With clear thoughts about this book and it's past and future fulfillment. Good overview of what we will see and how we should respond personally.
I have had a lifelong fascination with the Book of Daniel, which led me to make this book a part of my reading for Lent this year. A great refresher of the work of Daniel and why it is relevant today.
