Beverly Marie Inman was born on 23 December 1946 in Tuscumbia, Alabama, USA. Daughter of Doris Marie and Walter D. Inman Jr. A born romantic, she fell in love with The Beauty and the Beast epic at an early age, when her grandfather bought her an illustrated copy of the famous fairy tale. Even before she learned to read and write, her vivid imagination created magical words and fabulous characters inside her mind. Movies fascinated her, and by the time she was seven she was rewriting the movies she saw on television and at the local theater to give them all happy endings. By the age of nine she'd penned her first novel. She wrote short stories, TV scripts, poetry, and novels throughout high school and into college.

After her marriage to Billy Ray Beaver, the "love of her life", and the births of her two children, Beverly continued to be a voracious reader and a devoted moviegoer, but she put her writing aspirations on hold until her children were teenagers. At every age of their lives, from infancy to adulthood, the children had been a true joy to her. She devoted herself to her husband and children and considered herself one of the many selfless "supermoms" who put their family's needs first. She believed she had had it all, just not all at the same time.

In her mid-30s, Beverly returned to her former passion — writing — as a hobby, but before 40, she decided that she wanted to make writing a full-time career. And when she rediscovered an old dream — of becoming a published writer — no one was more supportive of her aspirations than her family. Her children were her greatest cheerleaders and her husband was her biggest supporter. After writing over 40 books and receiving numerous awards and nominations, as well as having books on the USA Today list and consistently on the Waldenbooks bestseller list, her career was indeed a dream come true. Having a fantastic family and fabulous friends, as well as making a living doing the one thing she had loved doing since childhood, she considered herself truly blessed. Beverly died suddenly of heart failure on 21 April 2011.

Gwen's father spent most of his life searching for a mystical island that he swears he spent three weeks on when he was twenty years old after his family all died in a boating accident. People on this island have lifespans of 200 years and they are never ill due to a Fountain of Youth type plant that is grown only on this island. After numerous fails in his searching, Gwen's father calls her one day, convinced that this time he is going to rediscover his magical island since it's been almost 50 years to the day when he was first on it. He wants her to be by his side when he rediscovers it. She flies to Puerto Nuevo to meet him before he sets sail, not to join him but to make sure he is okay. He has already left with his search party when she arrives, so now she must find him. Along the way she meets up with Will. Will is a private investigator who is looking for a missing girl. He thinks the girl is among the members of Gwen's father's search party, so Gwen and Will join forces and work together to find them.

This was a unique and different sort of story. It would have worked better for me, though, if it had just been an adventure story without the romance. The main couple didn't click for me, didn't seem very interesting, and I never felt the chemistry between them. There was a colorful cast of secondary characters that I enjoyed a lot. The story was mostly interesting, waiting to see if the island really did exist or not. A stupid action on the heroine's part near the end of the story, and the consequences that followed from it, brought the ending of the story down for me.

Twenty year old man, sailing in Bermuda triangle with parents and brother, freak storms, boat capsizes, makes it into lifeboat, then to an island where the natives live to 200+ years old because of a plant... but they send him away 3 weeks later... he becomes a brilliant yet eccentric botanist professor, and he spends the next 50 years trying to locate the island again, to bring a fountain of youth plant to the world... to the neglect of his wife, his job, and his daughter.

50 years later, 30 year old daughter, he's got backers and is going out again... and daughter, afraid he is being taken advantage of, goes to check it out... but when gets there, dad is gone, and she connects with a PI who is hired by her father, looking for a woman last seen with the professor's assistant (an ex=student of his)... the rich woman and her friend snuck on their boat, the friend was killed by the captain (unbeknownst to the friend), and they won't let her off the boat once discovered. the capatain, and the professor's girlfriend (yeah - hooker/schemer) are using the professor as cover for drug running...

His daughter, Gwen, and the PI, Will Pierce, rent their own boat and take after them... initially he thinks of her as frumpy, plump, and smart... and he comes to see him a a man of all macho cocky swagger and yet kind and understanding. As each deal with their fears and insecurities, they talk, they touch, they make love... they fall in love.

on anniversary of his finding the island the first time; Both boats get caught in a storm... and end up at the island... Egyptian in origin... a prince that controls the plants... a human sacrifice required each year... strangers on the island also sacrificed by the prince - though the villagers try and help the strangers escape; island cloaked - uncloaks one day every 10 years. professor, greedy boat captain, and Gwen try and take some plants night before they are going to leave to avoid the prince... they are captured, and the guards have staffs that shoot lightening that puts one to sleep... she awakens, is bathed, and dressed and taken to the courtyard to father and captain... the captain is the first sacrifice... and she sees Will Pierce at one of the walls... the prince gives her father the choice of her sacrifice, or permission to take a plant back... he chooses the plant...the prince tellshim wrong answer and they begin the sacrifice of him... she slowly backs away, gets to Will... they leave - shoot some guards... make it to the boat (with the professor's assistant, and the girl who snuck on the boat)... and all swear secrecy.

and story ends with marriage of Will and Gwen... ahhh
