The humble cottage offers a place of calming retreat and the opportunity to express a proud sense of individuality. In this timeless photographic treasury, the authors shine light on three charming characteristics that unify all a connection to nature, an intimately scaled design, and the use of locally made materials. They explore 24 superb American examples of all types-permanent homes and weekend getaways in rural, suburban, and urban locations, new cottages and remodels-discussing site planning, vernacular building materials, roof pitches, window sizes, interior design, and garden styles. Emphasizing current and future trends, "Cottage" is a storybook fantasy come alive.
Others may find this useful. However, 3,200 sq. ft., does not fit the definition of a cottage. Not even according to Wikipedia.
As I read through the book and looked for something inspiring, a reason to keep it even, the impression that it was just an excuse for a bunch of random people to have their houses immortalized in a book of glossy photographs grew stronger and stronger.
Ok. Not my favorite. This book stretched the definition of cottage a bit and it was mostly full of structures that were not my style. Fun to thumb through but I’m glad I bought it used for cheap!
This is a beautiful book and it's fun to dream through it's pages! If it wasn't for the fear of my kids getting to it, it would have a special spot on my coffee table, for sure!
