Celebrate the season with three brand-new stories by three USA Today bestselling authors!
Sherryl Woods "The Perfect Holiday" What was a holiday without a handsome husband? To Aunt Mae, it wasn't very festive at all! So she sent the perfect man to her single niece, Savannah Holiday. But would wealthy bachelor Trace Franklin become a groom-to-be by Christmastime?
Beverly Barton "Faith, Hope and Love" After one passionate night, Faith Sheridan found herself pregnant with her sexy bodyguard's child. Now she hoped the news of their secret child would be a welcome gift to Worth Cordell this holiday -- and the beginning of a lifetime of love . . .
Leanne Banks "A Rancher in Her Stocking" This Christmas, spirited schoolteacher Amy Winslow was sharing a home with a ruggedly handsome rancher! Now if only she could teach tight-lipped Lucas Bennett that the holidays were meant to be merry. And that he was made for love!
With two other careers to her credit before becoming a novelist and four states in which she's lived for extended periods of time, Sherryl Woods has collected friends and memories, along with way too much unnecessary junk.
"The friends are the only things I've brought with me through the years that really matter," she says. "I could probably live without one more chintz teacup, another tin-litho sandpail or another snowglobe, but I need those friends."
The theme of enduring friendships and families is always central to Sherryl's books, including her latest Chesapeake Shores series — THE INN AT EAGLE POINT, FLOWERS ON MAIN and HARBOR LIGHTS.
Author of more than 100 romance and mystery novels, Sherryl Woods grew up in Virginia. Over the years she had lived in Ohio and Florida, as well as California. Currently she divides her time between Key Biscayne, Florida and Colonial Beach, Virginia, the small, river-front town where she spent her childhood summers.
A graduate of Ohio State University School of Journalism, Sherryl spent more than ten years as a journalist, most of them as a television critic for newspapers in Ohio and Florida. For several years she also coordinated a motivational program for the more than 8,000 employees at the University of Miami-Jackson Memorial Medical Center.
Her first book, RESTORING LOVE, was published in 1982 by Dell Candlelight Ecstasy under the pseudonym of Suzanne Sherrill. Her second book, SAND CASTLES, under the pseudonym of Alexandra Kirk, was published later that same year by Bantam. She began using her own name when she moved to the Second Chance at Love line at Berkley Publishing. In 1986, she began writing full-time and also began her long career at Silhouette Books with the Desire title NOT AT EIGHT, DARLING, set in the world of television which she covered for so many years.
In addition to her more than 75 romances for Silhouette Desire and Special Edition, she has written thirteen mysteries — nine in the Amanda Roberts series and four in the Molly DeWitt series.
When she's not writing or reading, Sherryl loves to garden, though she's not at her best on a riding lawn mower. She also loves tennis, theater, and ballet, even though her top spin has long since vanished, she's never set foot on a stage, and she's way too uncoordinated to dance. She also loves baseball and claims anyone who's ever seen Kevin Costner in "Bull Durham" can understand why.
"The Perfect Holiday" by Woods - Aunt Mae has died and left her Vermont inn to her divorced niece in FL. Savannah Holiday is excited to be back in VT. What she doesn't count on is Aunt Mae also requesting toy co. president Trace Franklin to spend Christmas there too. Neither count on falling in love, but they do.
"Faith, Hope & Love" by Beverly Barton - Faith Sheridan was kidnapped while a nanny in a foreign country and rescued by Worth Cordell. She fell in love and became pregnant. When he fails to show on Christmas Eve, she goes on and has Hope. When she's kidnapped by a serial killer 4 months after the birth, Worth shows up and discovers he's a dad. He helps find Faith and eventually kills the killer and they marry.
"A Rancher in Her Stocking" by Leanne Banks - The new schoolteacher's house has burned and a friend volunteers to let her stay at her brother's ranch. Amy is an orphan and very attached to people and Christmas. Lucas Bennett's wife was killed in a car accident on Dec 20th, so he hates Christmas. Evenually, they work out their attraction and their problems

This is just a review of the RITA finalist novella, "A Rancher in Her Stocking" by Leanne Banks. This was a hard one to review. I really liked the main characters, especially schoolteacher Amy Winslow. She had such a sweet, energetic spirit. I would like to be friend with her. Lucas, the rancher, was a pretty good guy, but the story wasn't long enough for me to really get to know. And therein is the main problem. I don't think Amy had enough time to really know him either. Therefore, the ending was a little ambitious for the budding relationship. Good story, overall, but a little too much in a short period of time.
This was something of a disappointment. I usually really enjoy Christmas stories. And I love anthologies. But these three have nothing in common except a loose link to Christmas. I enjoyed the first and last ones more than the middle one. The genre of that one is so different from the romances before and after it, I found it jarring. Nora Roberts has done the heroine in jeopardy saved by her bodyguard well. I did not feel this story was as well-developed as it could have been.
The Perfect Holiday - Sherryl Woods: A fun Christmas romance with a cute twist.
Faith, Hope And Love - Beverly Barton: A common Christmas story, but with carachters you really have to love and a bit of mystery to go along with it.
A Rancher In Her Stocking - Leanne Banks: Sometimes Christmas comes whether you want it to or not. Love the carachters and although the story line is predictable, it is still fun.
I enjoyed this collection of sweet, ever so slightly steamy holiday shorts. Each was a slightly different sub-genre which was nice. Yet, they were not so different that many readers would be put off by a single story. I was already familiar with Sherryl Woods, but will certainly be checking out the other two author's other works.
The first and third stories were very readable. They were a little too fairy tale for me (rich man/prince fall in love with and saves poor girl) The second story was a DNF for me after barely starting it. I understand many fans love the little in between Christmas stories in their favorite series. I'm just annoyed when I start a book and realize it is an incomplete story.
