This has been one of my Holy Grail books and definitely one I didn’t think I would ever have the chance to read. Of course that means I had very high expectations and it proceeded to meet all of them. Very much a novel of its time, but second to none in its description of martial arts and fighting. And while it became a comic book series later, I wish we’d gotten a series of Richard Dragon novels.

Great writing, awesome time piece of the 70s martial arts craze, and incredible martial arts action. Wish more in this series as written.

An interesting artefact. Very much of its time, especially in its treatment of women who are all subservient and/or victims. However, it is fun and not claiming to be high art. If it had been filmed, it would easily have sat alongside the likes of Enter the Dragon as an entertaining martial arts action movie.

Well, it is what it is. Dated and creepy attitudes to women characters, but the action is okay. Only worth a read for the nostalgia of it, though.
