"A Must Read by Aviva Gat!... just when you think you have it all figured out, she throws another curve ball your way!" ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Could you raise the son he had with his ex?
Lila may not have been the love of her husband’s life, but they’ve built an enviable life together. Lila goes back to school shopping for her daughters and manages her thriving at-home baking business. Her husband Ryan is on partner track at one of Los Angeles’ top law firms.
But then Ryan comes home with some disturbing news: he had a son with his ex, Meredith. Meredith never told him. And now Meredith is dead and Ryan’s son is an orphan. Can the boy come live with them?
Without hesitation, Lila agrees to accept this sulky teenager into her home. After all, how else could she learn about her husband’s old flame?
A totally heartwarming and powerful story about family, secrets, and impossible dilemmas. Perfect for fans of Jodi Picoult, Diane Chamberlain, and Amanda Prowse.
Readers love Her Husband's Son:
"The plot twists were completely unexpected and I enjoyed how the story went back and forth between the past and the present."
This is the first book I have read by this author.
I was originally drawn to this book by its stunning eye catching cover and its intriguing synopsis and title. The synopsis stated that this book is 'A totally heartwarming and powerful story about family, secrets, and impossible dilemmas. Perfect for fans of Jodi Picoult, Diane Chamberlain, and Amanda Prowse.' I am a huge fan of Jodi Picoult and Diane Chamberlain so am looking forward to seeing if this lives up to this statement.
This novel consists of a prologue, 53 chapters and an epilogue. The chapters are short to medium in length so easy to read 'just one more chapter' before bed...OK, I know yeah right, but still just in case!
This book is set in the USA 🇺🇸 .
This book is written in third person perspective with the main protagonists being Lila and Ryan. The benefits of third person perspective with multiple protagonists are that it let's you see the bigger picture of what's going on and you get to know more characters more, what they are thinking and what they are doing. It feels like you get to see the whole picture and not miss out in anything.
'Her Husband's Son' discusses some topics that may upset some readers or may not be suitable for others. I like to point this out ahead of time in my reviews so you can judge if this book is for you or not. In this book Aviva discusses/includes cancer.
An absolutely gripping book Aviva well done!!! This book is beautifully written with such emotion it will have tears streaming down your eyes. The stunning cover and synopsis suit the plot perfectly.
The storyline is a rollercoaster of emotions including heartbreak, tension, secrets, lies, friendship, family, love and just so so much more. It is hard to explain in words the emotions this book brings out. It is so heartwarming and heartbreaking at the same time. I was absolutely captivated and absorbed throughout, a beautiful page turner. It is genuinely one of those books you just can't put down. It is also extremely thought provoking and most definitely unique! I have never come across a storyline like it in a book before!! I was just absolutely addicted to this gorgeous novel. It is an absolutely sensational family drama with twists and turns I just did not see coming so A HUGE CONGRATULATIONS to Aviva as it is getting harder and harder to shock me. My jaw just dropped so many times and I was just completely mind blown by everything that just kept coming out of the woodwork! Aviva has such evocative way of writing that it really does bring out all the emotions in her readers. This book is heartwarming and heartbreaking, uplifting and just an absolutely stunning addictive page turner. I absolutely LOVED the ending and I had tears streaming down my face by the end which is very rare for me so well done (I think 🤔) Aviva for making me cry lol 😂). The only criticism I have is that I found the changing of time lines quite confusing for a while as there wasn't any indication of what date/time was being written about. I did eventually adjust and worked it out but maybe it is something the author may wish to add to future books if continuing with the multiple time line theme. Although I lived the storyline which would normally give the book a 5/5 I found the time changes confusing so unfortunately as I give honest reviews only I would have to remove half a star for this. I don't think it is worth removing a whole star as I did work it out after a few chapters. Due to the fact you cannot give half star ratings I always rate up so will be giving 5/5 on rating sites. I would absolutely love to see this book created into a movie!!!
Clear your schedules and grab the tissues before even turning the first page of this stunner and get ready for an absolute rollercoaster of emotions!! One of the best books I have ever read!!
It is set over multiple time lines. When books show what has happened in the past and what is happening in the present I find it really helps the reader (if it is well done) understand why things are happening and what has lead to the present activities and decisions. It also shows the bigger picture.
The characters were realistic and each had their own unique personalities. This must be the first for a book but my heart went out to each and every one of the characters for different reasons. It absolutely broke for Lila who was going through so much anyway and the pressure, stress, heartbreak and so much more just kept being added and added to her emotional turmoil throughout the book and yet she still kept trying to stay strong for her family. Lila is such a strong woman and I was just expecting her to curl up and crawl into bed at any moment which, although she wanted to several times (and who could blame her?) she managed to keep on going. I am so pleased that she had Pooja who was a true friend and such an amazing support for Lila. She is such a kind and caring person and someone who I would love to have as a friend myself!! Adam is only a child at 12 but has also got so much going on with school, losing his mum, meeting a new family and moving in with them, having accusations thrown at him plus more tragedy to come my heart went out to him. Jada and Willow are such sweet girls who seemed so grown up at times and it was so sweet to see their relationship with Adam change and grow. I wasn't sure what to think of Ryan as it went back and forth in time lines and especially when I found out more about him and that he had been keeping secrets but I can't say anything else about him as I don't want to spoil it for future readers. I also had mixed feelings about Meredith who seemed quite cold and on times I did wonder if she was using Ryan to get what she wanted but I'm not 100% as she did try to contact him. She is another character I don't want to say too much about. Argh!! There's so much more I want to say about the characters but any more and I am worried I will give too much away so I will leave it there. However, I will say that this group of characters will stay with me for a long time and if you want to meet them click the buy link below. Well done Aviva on creating such realistic characters and bringing their personalities and emotions to life!!
Congratulations Aviva on an absolutely stunning book and for bringing out the same emotions as reading a Jodi Picoult and Nicholas Sparks book brings out in me. I am looking forward to reading more of your guaranteed page turner's!!

What would you do if you found out a secret about your husband that rocked your world ? This is the question Lila has to face.
Lila is married to Ryan a high flying partner at a top law firm. They have two young children and she has just set up a baking business which she manages alongside looking after their two daughters.
Lola’s world is set in a spin when Ryan comes home and tells her he has a son Adam with his ex girlfriend which he knew nothing about . Adams mum has just passed away and with no family to help out can Adam come and live with them?
The storyline is dual and it really gave the reader an insight into the past and how that had shaped the future.
This story explores many difficult issues, do we really know the people we are close to? Did things which happened in the past really matter? Can you love a child who is not biologically yours? All these questions and more are beautifully explored.
I loved the main character Lila. She sometimes felt overwhelmed and threatened by things she didn’t fully understand but nevertheless she overcame and became stronger.
Lila is a stay at home mother and baker. Her husband, Ryan, is a successful lawyer. When Ryan is contacted that his ex has passed and he has a son Lila and Ryan don’t hesitate to bring Adam home.
It can’t be easy to bring a 12 year old into your life. This story tells it vividly. It is told in the present by Lila and in the past by Ryan. I love books like this because you see what is going on while getting filled in on the backstory. This family drama is a must read if you enjoy books about families learning to adjust to what life throws at them. Once I started this book I wanted to find out what happened next and could not put the book down. I read it in one afternoon and loved every word. This was my first book by this author and it won’t be my last.
Good, but There were some serious things wrong with this book. One, the jumping back and forth in time from one chapter to the next was positively dizzy-making, not to say annoying. Two, the story needed fleshing out in spots, especially towards the end (no spoilers, just fact here). Three, editing mistakes that were just annoying. Other than that, it was a good story that could have been SO much better! Please get an editor, Ms. Gat!
I am honored to be an early reader for Aviva Gat’s newest novel, Her Husband’s Son! I appreciate this gifted ecopy and am leaving this review voluntarily!
As I was reading this book, I was thinking that this was a solid 4-star read for me, but by the time I was at the end, it really touched me in so many unexpected ways. As I finished, I knew it had to be a 5-star!
1. Animosity and Warning Signals From the Son, Adam, Immediately - Adam is an easy character to be leery of and I had immediate disdain for him. 2. Letters From The Past - We see Adam’s letters that he wrote to his dad, who he didn’t know, while he was growing up. 3. Selfishness From the Husband, Ryan - They bring Adam home to live with them after twelve years of not even knowing he existed and Ryan doesn’t even take an hour off of work. He is never there. I had so much anger towards him for leaving Lila to deal with this kid. 4. 😳 Oh My God….No! That Did Not Just Happen - When I jotted this in my notes, it was in regards to the one big catastrophic event; however, as the story continues, so many other twists kept dropping my jaw! 5. Thought-Provoking Must Read - I will be thinking about this one for awhile! I just can’t seem to stop with the must-read recommendations so far in 2023!
The only small wish that I have is that there would be some type of reference to where we are in the characters’ stories as the chapters go on. It took awhile to get used to the time jumps.
After a rocky start, Lila and Ryan have made a good life for themselves and their two young daughters. Then out of the blue a letter arrives , asking Ryan if he would take in Adam, a 12-year-old son he was unaware of. Now Lila is wondering if Ryan really did not know of his existence, or if he has been keeping secrets all these years.
Adam's arrival comes with some unforseen problems, and Lila is having a hard time connecting with him. Just as things seem like they may get better, tragedy strkes, leaving their family's entire future in jeopardy. Is Lila strong enough to make the tough decisions ... or will she crumble under the pressure?
This is a brand new author to me who presented me with a fabulous read, My Husband's Son. It was not expected to thrill me in any kind of way, but the dual timeline managed to exceed my expectations! It is hard enough to raise your own children without adding a 12 year old stranger to the mix, and it was so well expressed. I would recommend this to all of my reading friends. The only drawback were grammatical, with misspellings, and wrong words several places which didn't detract from the book, but rather made me want to be her proofreader!! Well done, Aviva!
Her Husband's Son is a Hallmark-like story of Lila Clark and her successful husband, Ryan, whose lives are changed when Ryan's long lost son comes to live with them after his mother dies.
The book is mostly told from Lila's point of view. It was slightly jarring going between the past and present almost every chapter, and a lot of bedroom scenes to sift through. And the female characters aren't the nicest people...
Still a good book for any easy, relaxing read with a sense of family that is getting rare these days...
I am an avid reader. The storyline in the book is well written. However, I had a difficult time keeping up with the jumping backward, forward, backward, forward, back to a different time with a different person. To me the time hops were a little choppy. My reason for only rating this three star is I was ready for "an emotional and powerful story,..." As the title stated. The most emotional part was when her husband died. That was unexpected! All in all it was a good read. Just not great.
I enjoyed the main character's baking talent and success while finding her a bit shallow at the same time. She redeemed herself with great depth by adopting, nurturing, and loving a teenage boy, something I would be afraid to do even if there was a father figure in the equation. I was frustrated by her silence when the boy first came to live with her where boundaries were called for, however, the author managed to pull off an impressive transformation.
I really wanted to like this more. The premise is definitely intriguing, but how the narrative itself played out didn't quite meet my expectations. I'm not sure that the dual narrative really served a purpose in making it a stronger story. Additionally, I was disappointed by how the conflict "resolved," but I'm also biased because I deeply dislike conflicts, especially relationship conflicts that hinge on poor communication.
Honestly this book was one of my favorites I would say it has as touched my heart in so many ways . I truly believe that anyone adult would enjoy this storyline it is a page turner and you won't believe the ending fantastic book.
I loved the way it went through all the stages of life. It was sad, funny, thoughtful, caring. I could totally identify with the characters I really enjoyed it.
This was a good read with many surprises throughout. Really pulls you into the characters who each have flaws that only make you relate to their situation and where it takes them.
What would you do if you discovered that your husband has a son you and he (allegedly) knew nothing about? And what's more, the son is 12 years old and just lost his mother to cancer?
Lila immediately agrees to accept 12 year old Adam into their home. But from the start, they seem to clash, but Adam gets along with his newly found father and 2 young sisters.
I could sympathise with Lila. Her world was turned upside down. When things start to go wrong, she blames Adam, and it really seems that it all is him. When something HUGE happens decisions need to be made, decisions that will have a serious long term effect!
Told in multiple timelines and POV it made for an intriguing read, I love seeing different sides to the same story. With a twist or two to get your heart pounding with tension and tears brimming. I enjoyed and liked all the characters and thoroughly enjoyed this heartwarming book. This is the first novel I have read by Aviva Gat, but it won't be the last.
Thank you, Aviva, for the arc, in exchange for my honest thoughts.
❓Have you ever thought about what you would do if an unknown child from a previous relationship of your partner would turn up? 💬 👇🏽
📕 This book! I was constantly thinking “What would I have done in a situation like this?”
📘 My husband and I actually know someone who’s been in a somewhat similar situation. Who’ve had an unknown teenager stand on their doorstep. That’s why we’ve already talked about how we would handle a situation like that. But a child can not be blamed for the choices it’s parents make. So I would welcomed the kid with open arms. The mother might be a different story 😂, but the kid is welcome.
📗 After reading the prologue I thought I had totally figured out the story….. Boy, was I wrong! Great plot twists. Nothing is what it seems. It’s heartwarming, it’s heartbreaking, it’s unexpected, it’s realistic, it’s a beautiful story. I really loved starting my year with this book!
I started reading this book, and my mind decided where the story was headed. Wrong! The author had much better plans for her book. Ryan and Lila take in his previously-unknown son when the boy's mother passes away. But there are secrets between Ryan and Lila, revealed after his death. Rather than choosing the easy way forward, Lila takes control of her emotions, deciding to take the high - and hard - road, while overcoming every obstacle, to create her own definition of family. The story is moving, beautiful, heartbreaking at times, so heartwarming at others. Keep the tissues close. I received a copy of this book from the author, and this is my honest and voluntary review.
This is a brilliant read. Wonderful well written plot and story line that had me engaged from the start. Love the well fleshed out characters and found them believable. Great suspense and found myself second guessing every thought I had continuously. Can't wait to read what the author brings out next. Recommend reading.
I read a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest review.
Aviva Gat has done it again! Another powerful story told from so many different perspectives. Nothing is as simple as it may seem. And just when you think you have it all figured out, she throws another curve ball your way!
