Kenzie is covering a high society wedding in New York when she learns her investigative reporter friend, Liesl, has been murdered. The last time she spoke to Liesl, Kenzie asked her to look into a cold case – a man who drugged and raped young women.
Did Liesl discover something that got her killed?
When Reid gets an urgent phone call from Kenzie, he takes some much needed time off and flies to New York to help her hunt down a ruthless predator.
What he doesn’t expect is to be embroiled in a dangerous game of cat and mouse with a killer who will stop at nothing to achieve his goal.
Wow, wow, wow, what a roller coaster of a story from Biba Pearce, it had me reading into the wee small hours, I couldn't put it down..........but I didn't want it to finish. Investigative journalist Kenzie Gilmour had desperately wanted to follow her father into the police force but an accident meant that she couldn't finish her training, she decided to use the skills that she had learned to become a very successful Miami journalist, often putting her life in danger to get her scoop. Sent by her boss to New York to cover the society wedding between a famous model and the youngest son of the president. Kenzie had to reluctantly call off a date with Lieutenant Reid Garrett of the Miami PD, she needed to try to move on their relationship, she couldn't bare the thought of losing him. The wedding was an excuse for Kenzie to catch up with her friend Liesl, a journalist on the NY Times, Liesl was helping Kenzie solve a cold case and she had information, information that she didn't have chance to pass on before she was killed. Reid received information that meant that Kenzie's life could be in danger, Reid immediately took leave and followed Kenzie to New York. This nail biting story follows Kenzie and Reid uncovering numerous plots with more twists than a corkscrew,it covers rape, murder, corruption at high levels and powerful cartels. A brilliant thriller with quite a few surprises and also the blossoming romance between Kenzie and Reid, I can't wait for the next story. I received a free copy of this book and my review is voluntary.
Newspaper reporter puts her life on the line as she covers a fancy NYC wedding - 4.5 stars
Kenzie Gilmore wants nothing more than to grow her relationship Lieutenant Reid Garrett, whose day job was a policeman near Miami say, "You're doing it again...Involving yourself in something you shouldn't." But keeping away from the action is unlikely given her job, intuition, and disposition.
In the twisting drama, Kenzie travels to New York City to visit a super model who is about to marry the President's son, a couple of crime scenes from long ago, and see her best friend die in an auto crash. There is, as the newscasters say, more to come. Much more. Kenzie sets up a scheme to trap a rapist and generally puts herself in harm's way almost daily. Her boyfriend Reid is a cop but he can't be everywhere at once. Furthermore, since she is reporting on a wedding in NYC, she is not even is her home territory of Miami.
We are with Kenzie as she interviews the bride-to-be, NYC policemen who do not welcome citizens "helping", and party planners for one of the most consequential weddings of the year. We are with Kenzie as she is manhandled, pleads for more information, and even as she pleads for help.
The power of the press may seem to be a cliché but that and her connections is what she has. And gumption. You will be swept up in the drama which does not get resolved until the very end. It is an excellent story which I recommend highly.
Intrigue, suspense, surprises and romance are all in this book! Kenzie Gilmore, investigative reporter for the Miami Herald, goes to New York City to cover the wedding of Emmanuelle, a supermodel and Warner Sullivan, the president's youngest son. She agrees to meet with her college friend and journalist for the New York Times, Liesl Bernstein. She had asked Liesl to look unto something for her, and Liesl had agreed to meet her at a restaurant. Unfortunately, on the way to the restaurant, Liesl is hit and killed by a car. Was it an accident or murder? What about the scandal surrounding Warner Sullivan, who was found to have been bribed by the Chinese? What about the budding relationship between Kenzie and Reid Garrett, Lieutenant in the Sweetwater, Florida police department? The answers to these questions will be found by reading this enthralling book. I highly recommend it to other mystery readers. I received an ARC of this book, and the opinion expressed is strictly my own.
Miami investigative reporter Kenzie Gilmore travels to New York for the society wedding of the presidents son and the model daughter of a cartel boss. She's also arranged to meet an old journalist friend who's helping her investigate a decades old rape case.
That meeting never happens as her friend Liesl is mowed down by a car in front of the restaurant they were meeting at. Kenzie wonders if this was an accident or an assassination after finding Liesl's apartment ransacked and her laptop missing and decides to investigate.
Kenzie takes us from the glamorous hotel and wedding venue The Plaza to grimy areas of Manhattan's worn down pay by the hour hotels and the recently rejuvenated area between Little Italy and Chinatown to find the answers.
In the midst of gunshots, attempted assassinations, and assault Kenzie with the help of her friend and love interest Florida policeman Reid Garret solves not one but two cases.
Great continuation of the series but still an exciting stand alone book with plenty of twists and turns and surprises you won't see coming.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I've read the series up until now and it's kept me engaged. Good plots, interesting (although at times bordering on absurd) twists, and a few ok characters. Strangely I still don't feel like I know a whole lot about any of them except the few things that keep getting rehashed, so I don't have much of an opinion on any of them.
Kenzie and Reid and completely annoying with the will-they-won't-they stuff. Whole adults acting like twelve year olds about holding hands. It's a bit much for me.
The author is getting better at finding an American voice, but there are still so many glaringly British things in each book. Is this a petty complaint? Kind of, but it sort of takes you out of the story when you have to think, "they've hired a Ford Mondeo? Oh, they've rented a Ford Focus (or whatever)". But thinking about a bunch of guys in the Florida swamp using British slang is pretty funny.
"These thrillers just get; Better & Better!” Wow I just love this Kenzie Gilmore Thriller series they just getting better and better! The partnership between Kenzie and Reid is just superb and a perfect match when it comes to investigating crime. This book starts with Kenzie away from home at a high society wedding in New York when she learns about her colleague and journalist friend Liesi has been murdered and possibly related to her involvement in a cold case. Kenzie is worried that her friend might have attracted the attention of the a rapist who is a ruthless predator. Kenzie calls in a favour with Reid to assist and together they take on a dangerous and devious killer. A very enjoyable fast paced page turning crime thriller to which I highly recommend.
Fever Pitch is fast paced with twists and turns that definitely keep you engaged in the story. Kenzie goes to New York presumably to get the inside details of a high society wedding between a model and the US President's son. Once she arrives, she is immediately thrown into political intrigue and murder. Just when you think the whodunit is solved, another twist emerges and you are once again caught up in mystery.
This is the first I've read in this series and while I loved the story, the romance between Kenzie and Reid was lackluster. They kept talking about how they cared about each other, but I never felt it or their connection outside of their jobs.
Kenzie’s off to New York to cover a wedding involving the President’s son to a model she was friends with. While there she’s going to meet with another reporter friend who is working on an old rape case. Before she has time to catch her breathe her reporter friend is killed in a hit and run accident. From there things just become more deadly and complicated as her friend’s research leads her into places she shouldn’t meeting with people she shouldn’t be meeting with. Needless to say things go wrong, lives are lost, lives are saved and Kenzie…….. You HAVE to read this book !
One of the best of hers I've read. A thoroughly enjoyable crime novel that starts with Kenzie trying to catch a prolific murdering rapist followed by more murders, attempted assassinations, kidnapping, international corruption and high politics not to mention the strains of her personal life. Its all neatly wrapped up by a final unexpected twist. I could outline more of the action but that would spoil the readers pleasure in enjoying the unfolding drama.
The Perfect Murder Mystery Thriller! This book is so fantastically interwoven it seems like it could only be a true story. It’s a hard to put down thriller for sure. After a thrill ride of twists all the way, I read to the conclusion – but wait, just when you think the book is ending ….. it doesn’t! So don’t take it for granted, you must read on to the very end, and what a great ending it is! I love mystery thrillers and this Kenzie and Reid series has been fantastic. I’m very pleased to be an ARC for this excellent author. 5 stars
I loved it! Wherever Kenzie is, there's bound to be trouble and Fever Pitch did not disappoint!
Kenzie was simply covering a celebrity wedding, with a side of finding a rapist, what could go wrong? Luckily, Reid knew Kenzie's reputation for stirring the hornets nest and, concerned, he joined her in New York. Shortly after, everything that could go wrong, did.
What a rollercoaster from start to finish, I devoured it in a single sitting, I couldn't put it down! I highly recommend this book and series.
Fever Pitch by Biba Pearce is book 6 in the Kenzie and Reid series. Kenzie, an Investigative Journalist, is in New York to cover the wedding of the President’s son. She was to meet with her journalist friend, Liesl, but Liesl is killed before this could happen. The books in this series are always fast-paced and exciting, and this is no exception. Kenzie is determined and feisty and together with Reid, anything can happen. This is a great book and series.
an investigative reporter whose police career was cut off before it really started finds herself mired in investigations tied to close friends and confidants
things are twisted and complex and very lethal
can she survive with using her instincts and connections? will she win in a few important arenas, or will power struggles cost her everything?
drama and action packed suspense with damaged romantic entanglements
How could one person attract so many ways of getting into trouble, with a capital T. Before she got out of one, poor Kenzie would magically be duped into another bumfuzzle. Reid was becoming her knight in shining armor from one scrape or another. The Miami Herald was graced with multiple stories, all compliments of Kindle and Reid. Scary at times, but really worth the goosebumps.
Sixth book in this fabulous series. The characters (Kenzie and Reid) are amazing together. This book has Kenzie covering the wedding of the President’s son and the murder of her friend Liesl. An edge of your seat page turner. I highly recommend this book and the entire series. Thanks to the Author for the ecopy of this book. The opinion expressed herein is my own.
Kenzie's reporter friend Liesl wanted to meet Kenzie to relay very important news. Unfortunately, Liesl gets killed in an accident in front of Kenzie. Kenzie suspects foul play. As she probes further her life is endangered. A thriller with a jaw dropping twist which I didn't see coming. I enjoyed the fast paced action and suspense.
This was a fast-paced, interesting read, that I found I did not want to put down! Great, multi-faceted characters. Suspenseful and thrilling. Kept me intrigued from the first page to the last.
*I received a complimentary ARC of this book in order to read and provide a voluntary, unbiased and honest review, should I choose to do so.
Wow, such a fast paced, suspenseful, unputdownable story. Kenzie and Reid went through a roller coaster ride of near death to solve first a rape/murder case and then to find out what happened to her dear friend, with a real twist to end result. But the best part is that it finally brought Kenzie and Reid together, finally admitting their feelings for each other.
Fever Pitch contains every element necessary for a winning crime novel including murder and mystery; intrigue and innocence; danger and risk; love and loyalty; trust and treachery; secrecy and betrayal. Kenzie and Reid are a winning team. This book is a winner too.’ Don’t miss this masterpiece.
Each new book in this series is exciting for me. Kenzie Gilmore is a character I just can't get enough of. The plots are always multi-layered. The villains are seldom obvious, and the evolving relationships are true to life.
How does the death of a reporter friend and the president's son tie together. In order to find out, you will have to read from cover to cover this new book by an unbelievable author. And it even includes romance. A can't miss page-turner.
This has been a great series. I couldn't put the books down. Finish the 6 available and can't wait until March for the 7th books to come out!!!! Kenzie and Reid need to be together and not this work together only relationship. Love the books. ❤❤❤❤
I would recommend this book, it keeps you on your toes.. It is full of dangerous times for the characters. Politics and murder were keeping our heroes very busy. I couldn't put this book down.
