A New York Times best selling, multi-arc, character-driven story with great battles and strong-willed females that will appeal to males and females alike.
In a world where monsters called Yoma prey on humans and live among them in disguise, humanity's only hope is a new breed of warrior known as Claymores. Half human, half monster, these silver-eyed slayers possess supernatural strength but are condemned to fight their savage impulses or lose their humanity completely.
Galatea's plans to eliminate the Awakened former number 2, "Bloody" Agatha, have failed, but the arrival of Clare and her comrades turns the tide of battle. In the aftermath, Miria decides to finally share her shocking discoveries about the true nature of the Yoma, of the Organization and of the Claymores themselves.

This volume seems to show a change in direction for the series with a reveal that is very similar to the one I saw in Attack on Titan but done years earlier here.
World: Great art with some fun action sequences. The world building is great! We finally get some concrete answers and it's great. We get an idea of why there are so many characters and replacements and the point of the story. The new pieces and the old pieces are used wonderfully well.
Story: A great story with finally some concrete answers to the point of the series. It's a lot of world building that is tied to character and story and it works. The ideas behind the point of the Claymore is amazing. The stuff with Raki is a bit disconnected though but that's been the case for a while. I don't understand why he's with that companion though...I hope we get more context in that regard.
Characters: Good character moments and depth finally and we get to see some great banter and light moments. The ideas behind the character origins is great. Raki is a bit disconnected and how he ended up with that character really needs development.
On the plus side, I think the current designs of Clare and company objectifies their bodies less. Alas, I can't say the same about the way that Yagi is drawing the other women in the series.
Probably one of the best of the story in term of «complexity» or story development! I rated all of them five stars so I can't really give this one a higher note, but this is definitely a very great one!
Finally some lore! Finally some answers! It's been far too long since we've had an infodump, and whilst I'm not really keen on them, this one was so necessary to keep me reading on. Although the story Miria offers as to what she found out about the organisation is about as obvious as it gets with modern manga in mind (Attack on Titan much?), at the time it was first published, it would have been a bit more of a unique storyline. I'm looking forward to Clare and Raki's reunion, as he's gotten way stronger than the whiny kid he was in the first 14 volumes and has now grown into his own. Them having a proper conversation will be good, and hopefully they end up coming together to take out a more defined antagonist.
This chapter is just sooo exciting!!! Not only Clare got stronger, but Raki also! And he became a really handsome man! To think they still remember their promises to each other. My only concern is her. It really annoys me that “she” is just a big obstacle to this. It’s just a huge mess. 🤦🏻♀️
But let’s not focus on the bad side and think of how strong Clare had become 😍
Wow I love this volume. Finally I’ve got some answers to this whole thing, this whole world...
A war out there somewhere, a test of transforming human, a lie of what you’re supposed to believe forever...this is the most informative volume so far.
N.B, Miria is becoming a such strong leader now. Raki, you a a grown man now. Can’t wait to cheer for your ever-wanted reunion!

We catch up with Raki in this one and then a huge revelation about the world and the truth behind Claymores and yoma. Actually reminded me a bit of AoT with that, but this is still a good, fast series!
This is by far the best volume we've gotten in a while. The astounding revelations about the nature of the organization and the continent's history, the reveal of post time skip Raki, Rafaela and Luciela. It felt like every chapter something game changing happened. I'm so glad this series is only getting better.
Claymore is a manga about Yoma who pretend to be human in order to kill and eat the humans. The Claymore are the hybrid of the two stronger faster but still human with the ability to slay the Yoma which they do for a price. They travel from village to village slaying Yoma with nothing but the sword on their back using the Yoma abilities but slowly turning into a monster that they hunt. When the time comes a Claymore will send a black card to another claymore to be slain before the Yoma takes over and so they die as a human.
In the 15th installment Clare showed up in time with her friends to slay Agatha saving Galatea as well as the young warriors Clarice and Miata. Things suddenly don't look so black and white as they used to and Clarice is unsure about returning back to the organization. They choose to stay in the holy city while Clare and her team head forward to destroy the organization once and for all. Miria was right the organization isn't what it appears but hopefully together they can destroy it.
I like Clare she’s a sword carrying slayer who isn’t afraid to die charging in risking her life. She's grown a lot in the last several volumes leading up to the battle in the north. After faking her death along with her fellow claymore's she's returned after seven years to battle the Organization. While she may not be the strongest she's determined and unwilling to give up. She's one of those underdog characters you can't help liking. We've seen a little of Raki but other than knowing he's traveling with Priscilla that's about it.
I’ve seen all of the episodes on Netflix a few years ago actually binge watched them over a long weekend. While it’s been a while I don’t think the anime has gone this far in the series. I don’t remember the girls taking on the organization which is where the story has turned. It’s interesting learning that the organization which has been creating claymores for a long time may not be the good guys after all. I love the concept for the Claymore the hybrids created using parts from the monsters that they have been created to fight against the Yoma that they created. The art is great it gives me just enough to create the story in my head as I read each detailed page. This is only my 2nd manga so I don’t have a lot to base on but I’m super addicted to them. They are perfect for when I have some downtime or when I feel like reading back to back. I already know that the ending is close as I’m about halfway done. I’m anxious to see how it’s all going to play out.
In a dark fantasy world overrun by shape-shifting demons called Yoma, a mysterious organization has created half-breed warriors called Claymores to combat the monsters terrorizing the world. The story centers around a Claymore named Clare, a determined woman who seeks revenge against the Yoma that killed the person she loved and admired most. On her journey of revenge, she slowly unravels the horrifying mysteries surrounding the origins of the Yoma, the shady organization that created her, as well as the true meaning of her own existence.
When I first started reading, the story instantly gave me Vampire Hunter D, The Witcher and Berserk vibes, only this time it featured a captivating and sympathetic female lead named Clare. We don't know that much about her at first, but beneath her stoic and determined facade is a struggling little girl with a tragic backstory of loss and a painful drive of revenge interfering with her ability to live a normal life. Despite her cold and sometimes monstrous demeanor, Clare has a big soft spot for humanity despite the blood of demons running through her veins. She's chilling, badass and most importantly, sympathetic.
Over the course of the series, we meet dozens of amazing female warriors, each with their own unique powers, personalities, demonic transformations and interactions with Clare. Theresa of the Faint Smile who serves as a motherly role model for Clare was my favorite character in the story, and I ended up being impressed by the sheer amount of badass, likable female warriors that were introduced later on in the series that I ended up growing attached to as well. It's not too often you see dark fantasy or sword & sorcery series where 99% of the main cast are well-written female warriors.
Some plot points get a bit messy in the second half of the series, but the action, characters, horror and monsters never stop being thrilling and it also has a very satisfying conclusion despite having a few road bumps along the way. It's a great series if you enjoy the Conan-esque monster of the week formula with added layers of mystery and emotion.
Yay! Finally more info on what the Organization is up to (and why it's super-evil). I'm not sure what Riful of the West's plan is, but I kinda like her, as a villain. She's sweet and horrible at the same time.
Raki travelling with Priscilla is quite worrying, considering the fact that he'll have to run into Clare at some point and she's definitely not on Priscilla's side...
We finally find out more about the universe of Claymore - the origin of the swords and of the fighters, as well as of the enemy. The team of seven rogue Claymores prepares to take on the Organization, seen as the true source of evil. The story advances fast and is again at its best.
Claymore’s storyline has left me reading far enough that I could gain interest in Clare (after a long while mind you), Teresa, Miria, Priscilla and…well now Raki. I enjoy the Claymore character designs. Usually it’s just different hair and varied complexions (Ophelia was like an elf). This volume proved to me that I don’t care how they explain what’s going on. I am actually perfectly content to know that there are big bad monsters that require big bad heroes to take em down. In fact, I like the first part of Attack on Titan way more than when it progresses. And this makes me feel that AoT hit a CTRL+C – CTRL+V on Claymore.
We’re far enough that we can look back and just wonder at some of the decisions. It’s like the author had a crossroads decision of making numbers 1-9 the villains, the abyssal ones or a mixture of both. To be fair I think that’s a subplot anyway, the main driving force of the narrative is between Raki, Claire and Priscilla even if some of the latest characters feel a tad more interesting. Norihrio Yagi might have dug himself into a hole by the way he approached the story. That’s probably why it doesn’t flow so well at times as I mentioned before. It’s like every other volume is a major hit or miss.
I’ve never cared one sliver for the organization. Still, I can see its importance for the continuation of events. I feel like these elements might have been handled more smoothly. Or Claymore numbers 1-5. A group of Claymores (even those from the North) never really get the gears turning. From the art alone one can see when a warrior’s of high rank. It sours the mood just a bit to dote only a little further back at the fates of Galatea, Rafaela, Alicia, Beth, Irene, and to wonder at a different turn if things might have been much more interesting.
Alas, there’s still much more reading to be done. I’ll give em the benefit of the doubt.
Today's post is on Claymore volume 15: Genesis of War by Norihiro Yagi. It is the fifteenth the long running Claymore series, you need to have read the first fourteen volumes to understand the story. It is 197 pages long and is published by Shonen Jump Advanced. The cover has Clare standing in the center looking at the reader. The intended reader is someone who likes dark plots, high action, and strong female characters. There is mild foul language, no sexuality, and lots of violence in this book. The story is told from third person close of the main character. There Be Spoilers Ahead.
From the back of the book- Galatea's plans to eliminate the Awakened former number 2, 'Bloody' Agatha, have failed, but the arrival of Clare and her comrades turns the tide of battle. In the aftermath, Miria decides to finally share her shocking discoveries about the true nature of the Yoma, of the Organization, and of the Claymore themselves.
Review- Lots of plot happen in this volume with Miria explaining what she has been researching. Claymores are weapons not in a fight with Yoma but for some greater foes on another continent. But that does not really have much to do with the real story of our hero, Clare. She want to kill Priscilla who is still traveling with Raki. Raki knows what Priscilla is but sense she has not eaten anyone while traveling with him, he leaves her be. Raki is still looking for Clare and he is retracing their travels from seven years before. The volume ends with the man in black who was Clare's contact in the Organization seeing her. I like where the plot is going and I look forward to seeing Clare finally meet Priscilla again.
I give this volume a Five out of Five stars. I get nothing for my review and I bought this manga with my own money.
(Zero spoiler review) 3.5/5 Every time I go to review one of these volumes, I have a look at the Goodreads score, and I am constantly amazed at how consistently high the scores for these volumes are. I can't recall them moving anymore than .2 of a point, with all scores being between 4 and 4.5. That is almost unbelievable, given the disparity that scores on this website can often achieve. Although it also speaks to the consistency of this series, as we are basically getting the same thing over and over again in each issue, with the pedestrian, snail like plot slowly ticking along as the Claymore's continue to fight yoma after yoma after yoma. That being said, we actually got a bit of a bombshell in regards to the lore of this world, which I had been waiting for since volume 2. I won't say what it is, as I don't so spoilers here, although how it took nearly 3000 pages to answer this fundamental question is beyond me. I'm also getting a little bit over how every demon early on was your garden variety yoma, and now every demon they encounter is an awakened one. The series hasn't scaled difficulty that well. That being said, we are again on an upward trajectory, and I'm reading a little more avidly than I ever have. That's gotta count for something. 3.5/5
4/5 Thing's wrap up in Robona as Clare's group meets up with Clarice and Miata. We finally get a chapter with a grown up Raki who is oddly traveling around with a shrinking Priscilla.
After that Miria drops some knowledge on the group. The world's bigger than originally thought. The Organization is more nefarious than originally thought and everyone's being lied too. After that the group splits up as Clare wants to go after Raki. However Miria won't let her go alone and sends 2 other's with her.
The story is still good. The art is improving my only qualm is that the story is getting a little convoluted but that's always a risk with long ongoing series.
Clare in her new outfit on the cover of volume 15.
