From the author of HOME SWEET HOME, a novel about a man who becomes a recluse after an abortive mission to Bosnia results in the death of his girlfriend. But when his friend's son goes missing out there, he realises that he will have to go back to the war zone to find him.
“In the country, where I live, the milkman will often check to make sure that someone is all right when the milk isn’t taken in, but in London and other big cities that doesn’t happen very often.”
In some ways this story seems overly idealized, while in other ways it seems overly tragic and terrible. The story takes readers everywhere from Alaska to London to war-torn Bosnia. Yet the bonds between the characters seems real.
Tom hides away on a remote island off Newfoundland, but when his sister tries suicide and her son is missing in Bosnia, he realizes he must go there to find him. Very good.
