Can angels fly? Can angels sing? Yes, child. They can. If angels can fly and angels can sing, what do they wear when doing these things? In this book from Eileen Spinelli and Emily Arnold McCully, a young child seeks to understand the nature of angels, in very childlike terms. A bedtime discussion between mother and daughter explores the secret lives of angels, from dancing and playing hide-and-seek to dressing in clothing that will be familiar to every child.
Eileen Spinelli is an award-winning children's book author from southeastern Pennsylvania. She has written over 100 picture books and novels for children. Her husband is Jerry Spinelli, who also writes books for children.
This school made me very emotional. I feel like this story can help children feel at peace with loved ones who had passed on that they are safe and okay and happy.
This is just the sort of picture book that I usually really like. The same can be said for Julia. This story is definitely okay but it's not as good as I think it could have been. The rhymes are somewhat stilted in more than a couple places. This is a big problem because it hurts the entire story. I didn't much care for the illustrations myself but Julia said she liked them. I can't say I'd recommend it to anyone, or even really remember it after I finish this review. It's an okay story for a very young child maybe, especially if you can take those stilted words and stick another in that words better.
This book could be for grades K-1 readers. It is about a little girl who is interested in angels. As her mother prepares her for bed, she asks her many questions about angels, such as what they wear and do they sing. I would consider having this book in a classroom library for readers who are interested in angels.
A child's question at bedtime...are angels real? and if so, What Do Angels Wear?. Yes, child, angels are real, as wind and light and a mother's kiss good-night.
