Helen Beatrix Potter was an English author, illustrator, mycologist, and conservationist who is best known for her children's books, which featured animal characters such as Peter Rabbit.

Born into a wealthy household, Potter was educated by governesses and grew up isolated from other children. She had numerous pets, and through holidays in Scotland and the Lake District, developed a love of landscape, flora, and fauna, all of which she closely observed and painted. Because she was a woman, her parents discouraged intellectual development, but her study and paintings of fungi led her to be widely respected in the field of mycology.

In her thirties, Potter published the highly successful children's book The Tale of Peter Rabbit and became secretly engaged to her publisher, Norman Warne, causing a breach with her parents, who disapproved of his social status. Warne died before the wedding.

Potter eventually published 24 children's books, the most recent being The Tale of Kitty-in-Boots (2016), and having become financially independent of her parents, was able to buy a farm in the Lake District, which she extended with other purchases over time.

In her forties, she married a local solicitor, William Heelis. She became a sheep breeder and farmer while continuing to write and illustrate children's books. Potter died in 1943 and left almost all of her property to The National Trust in order to preserve the beauty of the Lake District as she had known it, protecting it from developers.

Potter's books continue to sell well throughout the world, in multiple languages. Her stories have been retold in various formats, including a ballet, films, and in animation.

I listened to this with my girls as an audiobook in the car throughout a trip. I thought it might be a little boring for littles but my daughter loved it and begged me to put it back on each time we got back in the car. It helps that she, mischievous by nature, loves a character that is just a little bit naughty in the most delightful way. So it is no surprise she was quickly taken with Peter. Some of the stories got a little tricky to follow without the illustrations, I'm going to let her watch the animated series to reinforce the story lines and characters and then set her loose with the illustrated story books. I love the idea of endearing this children's classic to my little ladies as a part of their childhood.

How can you not adore this collection of Beatrix Potter’s stories? Each one so beautifully told about such cute creatures & the troubles they find themselves in!

My favourite of course Peter Rabbit!! Such a loveable scamp!!

The illustrations are lovely and beautifully created. They capture sections of the stories cleverly and really add to the story telling.

I also liked the last section of the book about how the characters were brought to life for TV. Very informative in a way that anyone could understand.

I love the illustrations. They really help make the stories. I always knew Peter Rabbit but had never read her other stories as a child.

What a lovely book. The pictures are just beautifully done and the stories are pure magical and classic and I just know that they will last through time. This really is a must buy book, especially if you have children, though I admit I myself bought it solely for myself and loved reading it. I may add though that if I do have children in the far away future this will definitely be one of the first books placed on their bookcases and read to them. A truly beautiful book that all will love.

This is another of my favorite children's books. I had this book from the age of 7 till 14, read it so many times I can still remember every little detail. Was one on those books you never get bored of.

I read this aloud to my 3 and 6 year olds. They really seemed to enjoy it, even if some of the language was a bit old fashioned. They gained some great vocabulary words!
