Librarian Note: This book has also been published as Breeder Project
Sent to harvest breeders for their dying civilization, Camryn, Kael, and Ean chose Simone for her spirit, never realizing that the one thing they found so desirable in her as a mother for their sons would be the catalyst to turn their empire on its axis.

Not my favourite by this author. Alien jerks use earthen women for incubators in order to have healthy sons. They don't really want any daughters. I didn't care much for any of the characters.
Am I being unreasonable to think that when certain words/images are used in a title or on a book cover that I expect those words to be illustrated in the book? Do you remember my review of The Cajun's Captive where I lamented the appalling lack of captivity despite the bound hands of the lovely lady on the cover? How about Tie Me Up, Tie Me Down (Goodreads link because that was my pre-awesome-blogging days!)? More tying, less talking!
Let me tell you, when I buy a book with the word 'Penetration' in the title, I'm expecting something so dirty that it makes my eyelashes blush. Sadly, this wasn't the case. I don't think there was any sex AT ALL until at least halfway through the book. And it really wasn't sexy when they finally did get down to it because the men had been raised ... umm, I really don't know how to put this delicately. They'd been expending their manly passions with the palace concubine who apparently doesn't require than her man-friends give her any pleasure during their coupling. You know, they'd pop in, pop off and leave her to the next guy. Not pretty. Really not sexy. When the three studs finally do get down to the alien penetration, it's kinda... not sexy.
On to of my dissatisfaction with the no-truth-in-advertising title, there was a squick factor for me with this book (I had squick with the last book I reviewed also, what's that about?): the concubine who the studs visit at the palace was a mother-figure to them when they were children. *makes face* Since there are very few women on their world the boys would go to her for comfort. As they got older, the comfort got a little more... physical. I just... yuck. I'm going to be honest, I read just about anything and this made me make a total sour lemon face.
So now I have the no-truth-in-advertising title and the squicky concubine. Things need to start looking up quickly or it's not going to be pretty. Unfortunately for me, I never really connected with either the characters or the story. The bulk of the book spans a good portion of Simone's pregnancy (which was not done via any alien penetration, mind you) and the timeline would jump forward in fits and starts. In fact, toward the end of the book there was a big jump of a couple of months that I didn't realize at first and I had a really tough time trying to figure out what had happened. I get that the author was trying to move the storyline forward but it felt clunky and I only realized what had happened when it was mentioned that so and so "had been imprisoned for months".
In the end, this book and I didn't hit it off. Part of it was the expectation I had going into it that it was going to be dirty/filthy/wrong. Hey, I'm honest about the things I look for in a book. I wanted smut, I thought I was getting smut, I was wrong. Part of it was a lack of caring what was going to happen to the characters.
Overview AP… This story is built around the idiocy of male aliens… I know, I know… it’s their culture… blah, blah, blah... but really?!?!? YOU CAN’T LIVE WITHOUT WOMEN… PERIOD!!! But back to the overview… after practically depleting the entire female drak population, their men decide to seek out comparable females elsewhere. Of course they find such females on earth and capture them to be breeders on their planet. Well, you can be sure that this little male fantasy didn’t go over very well with the earth women. Between suicides, revolutionary speeches, and public disruptions these women cause a momentous change in the lifestyles of these males.
Thoughts To be perfectly honest I just did not like this story. The characters were ok… I really liked Simone although I thought she could have been a little stronger of will when it came to the big handsome aliens but I guess she held her own most of the time. I guess every story can’t have the perfect happy ending but unfortunately that’s what I need to be happy. However, I do want to give kudos to the author for doing something different.
A slightly different take than the usual 'Mars Needs Women' trope in that the women actually rebel, try to stand up for women's rights, and make changes to the alien society which has kidnapped them and the culture itself has reasons for continuing lack of females. (Did Ms. O'Connor read complaints from those that hate the genre and try to address them?) The heroine does fall somewhat blindly for the heroes on very little evidence of them being good guys underneath barbarian exteriors, which should be no surprise to anyone that is a fan of O'Connor's work or the MNW trope. Very little erotica for those seeking a spicy read, even less than what is included in mainstream Romance genre novels, but it is still a M/M/M/F menage setting.
I found it a well written, entertaining guilty pleasure read.
Just to clarify, I normally enjoy books from kaitlyn o'conner. This book however, I didn't like anything about it. The men were jerks. All they cared about was the sex and there god damn sons. They were completely clueless when it came to all the woman on there planet, let alone the earth woman they had stolen. Then the compromise at the end of the book was awful. There was nothing slightly romantic about this book. Not even sexy. Simone would of been better off ditching the boys for the slave guy zav. Bad, not really enjoyable at all.
I normally enjoy this author, she creates incredible worlds and people. Though sometimes the books end a little too fast. This however was the opposite. It just dragged on, and on... And without the penetration the title promised. By the time I'd given up at 47% there'd been one sex scene that might as well have been with a blow up doll for all the sexyness it contained. Disappointed.
I like the overall premise of the story but its execution was blah. There were times in it that I wished were actually good. I had times where I had this face 😐. Others that it was😳. Just bad. I read the epub version.
I should have listened to the honest reviews on this book. It wasn't horrible, I was able to finish it and I think one of the best things it has going for it is that it's under 400 pages or there about. It has the usual women are kidnapped for breeders etc. like so many. This one took a darker turn as the others, the men saw them as nothing more than animals really and even towards the end there wasn't much headway to changing that view. You'd think for an advanced society they wouldn't be so stupid and barbaric to breed themselves out of existence but they are. I also couldn't get over the fact all the men in one family shared one woman, ew. Do they all have a schedule or something? From what I got from the end the women were still required to push out as many babies as possible and by different men but now they can have girls too and some stay with chosen clans, at least for a time. Even the erotica was a disappointment, I found myself skimming it after awhile, what there was of it. Speaking of, it wasn't a big deal if the woman got it or not, since they were artificially impregnated, yawn.
OH GOD! lets start out by saying I love this author and all her books, but this one!. I'm not sure what happen in this book. I did not like anything about this book!! I really hated the mane female down to the nonexistent, well almost nonexistent sex scene. The plot was all wrong, like there was something really missing in this book. I just could not rap my head around how disappointing it was, but please don't think the author other books are bad cause there not. I've read almost all her other books and so fair this one was just plain bad!....sighing*
lets see, on the "up side"! I'll give you round of applause Ms Kaitlin O'Connor for your other books.
I have always had an interest in the caste system and holy moly i have to give these breeders a whoop whoop for not going postal. I am actually surprised that only two of them ended their own lives. I thought that the female main character was a little.... froo froo in her humanitarian views, but it fit just right with the story. I had hoped that she would be more of a realist and not "look the other way because you do not want to see what is right in front of you" kind of girl. But like I said before, she did fit. Loved this book! Loved the action and the description of the system.
Although I usually love this author, I hated the first book in this series so I kept putting off reading the second book. It doesn't seem to go at all with the first book and I thought this one was very good. Whew! I was worried there.
As with the author's other sci-fi books, this is about aliens needing some human loving (bow chicka bow wow), it's just in a happy group of four! The book ends with lots of babies "as per usual" (I've stolen that saying from someone because it cracks me us for some reason). :) Great author!
I´ve got no trouble reading Aliens abducting, non-con and so on, so i didn´t think i´d have trouble with this one. But i´ve got a pet peeve, i don´t want two heroines sharing the same Heros. I prefer one heroine. Did not finish.
The reason for the low rating is simple. This's a standalone book that I don't feel the problems ever resolved themselves. The book ended on the first babystep in the right direction, but it didn't seem that she even was able to change the minds of her lovers. Just annoyed me. ~.~
This story was very slow in the first half of the book and I must admit I skipped bits because the story did not seem to progress much before at least halfway through the book. Other than that little bugbear it was a fairly good story.
I really enjoyed this story. It was good. I would have rated it higher, had there been more information at the end. Far too many questions were left unanswered, in my mind. 3.5 stars.
