Chamberlain Ski Resort and Spa Welcome to the 10th Annual Snow Queen competition! I can't believe I got roped into this. Snow Princesses must attend all pageant rehearsals, with appropriate outfits. Well, no matter what it takes, I'm going to wipe that smirk off Layla Chamberlain's face. Our rehearsal space can be booked to practice your talent. Um, does "looking dumb in a dress" count as a talent? See Grayson Chamberlain, the assistant director, with any questions. If you insist! First How can someone so sweet (and hot!) be a Chamberlain? Good luck! One of you will soon be our new Snow Queen! Oh joy. Unless Grayson comes with the tiara . . .
When I first heard about Snow Queen by Emma Harrison, I knew I would enjoy it since I love anything about competitions and revenge. This book is so adorable as it recounts a winter beauty pageant, and the main character is quirky and caring. It is pretty clichéd, but that’s part of its charm.
I would have rated this higher but grayson was just too clueless of her sister's bad attitude i wanted to punch him as much as aubrey probably felt the whole time. that he could like her and yet think she is devious enough to be sabotaging people is beyond me.
i love christie but i thought she was more selfish than aubrey. She convinced her bff to join the pageant coz she cant do it alone. So her bff who hates the pageant goes along with her and is fighting her battles for her and when aubrey got pissed off and wanted to win the pageant christie got hurt because she had to win? Okay so aubrey became a mini pageant monster but christie never even thought that her bff had a chance to win the crown? They could have united to bring layla down instead.
and i disagree that the author let aubrey only get 3rd place. she should not have thrown the pageant by giving a stupid answer and she should have gotten at least 2nd place. Which gives doubt if christie is the deserving winner at all.
but without over analyzing this book was quite a fun and frustrating rollercoaster read.
I'm completely clueless about why and what made me find this book and then putting it in my e-reader (May be the fact that I liked Emma Harrison's 'Best Girl' once upon a time?) to read it someday and that someday happened to be today *Rant rant rant*
I didn't like any of the characters. The plot's about a beauty pageant and surrounds around girls who are pageant monsters. The protagonist was somewhat all right at first but then became pathetic like everyone else. The best friend (Christie, I remember!) is one of the most annoying side characters I've ever come across and I don't know how the protagonist kept up with her. If I were her (Which thankfully I'm not, phew!) Christie would be in pieces by now. The hero was nothing memorable, same old nice and hot guy, argh!
I somehow managed to finish this; even so, I can't persuade myself to give this 2 stars (Which I usually give to books I didn't like much but have finished nonetheless).
I like to read wintry reads this time of year, and I enjoyed this one. It is about a beauty pageant competition and rivalry between the somewhat tomboyish main character Aubrey and the stereotypical “mean girl,” Layla.
The romance was sweet, but the reason I gave this 3.5 stars instead of the full 4 stars is because Grayson was completely clueless and oblivious about how rude Layla was. I enjoyed the romance and the friendship between Aubrey and Christie.
Aubrey’s used to the Florida heat but it’s always been her dream to visit Vermont and see the snow with best friend Christie. Little does she know, Christie has signed them both up for the local Snow Queen pageant. Aubrey knows that she’s not pageant material. She’s a tomboy and knows that in competing she will only embarrass herself. Being naturally competitive, Aubrey is the only girl to play in an all boys roller hockey league and would rather don a pair of skates and practice for the hockey shot competition. But Christie has always dreamed of winning the Snow Queen title, so being a supportive friend Aubrey reluctantly agrees to compete alongside Christie and help her win the crown.
Layla Chamberlain always gets what she wants and she wants to be the Snow Queen. She sees Christie as her main competition and is out to sabotage both Aubrey and Christie. Layla’s the typical rich, spoiled brat and seeing the terrible things she does to Aubrey and Christie, you can’t help but root for one of them to win.
Things get complicated when Aubrey meets local gorgeous boy Grayson who turns out to be Layla’s brother. Grayson’s always sending mixed signals to Aubrey and with Layla being his sister, she doesn’t know if she can trust him or not. But Layla’s gone too far with her pranks and Aubrey’s competitive beast is unleashed. Now Aubrey will do anything to see the look on Layla’s face when she loses even if she has to beat Christie.
Snow Queen was everything I expected it to be. It was a cute and fun read that is perfect for those long winter months but would also make for a good beach read.
A cute romantic story. It is about a girl named Aubrey. She is a tomboy and is the only girl that can play hockey in her school. She has a best friend named Christie who wants t become a "Snow Queen" and so she enters herself and Aubrey for a local Snow Queen Pageant. Aubrey isn't that type of girl who does pageant because she doesn't want to let her friend down, so she agrees. The villain in the story is named Layla Chamberlain and she too wants to become a Snow Queen. She knows that she has competition and will do whatever to win the competition. It is easy for her because she is a rich, spoiled brat. Aubrey has to focus on getting away from both Layla and Layla's brother Grayson. Aubrey doesn't trust Grayson but sometime about him makes Aubrey feel safe.
I know, a winter book in summer isn’t what you were expecting! But I love these romantic comedy novels! I couldn’t help myself! I love books that place during the winter, they are always so cozy and make you feel warm and fuzzy!
Best friends Aubrey and Kristie goes all the way up to Vermont from Florida. Aubrey accompanies her best friend, Christie, at her grandparents inn. But then once they get there all of their plans change when Christie drops the bomb, letting her know that they are going to be in the Snow Queen pageant.
This was a fun read! It was quick, well-written and fun! The characters were great! I really loved Christie’s grandparents who own a small inn in Vermont, they are good natured people and we get to meet a lot of the locals in the area who are fun!
Aubrey has never seen snow, since she's lived her whole life in sunny Florida. So, going up north with her best friend, Christie, is going to be the best vacation of her life! Or so she thinks...
Christie has entered Aubrey in the Snow Queen competition without her knowing - and Aubrey is nothing like a pageant girl! She'd rather play hockey than wear a gown. At first, Aubrey is adamant she's not going to enter, but she wants to support Christie -who has dreamed her whole life of being crowned Snow Queen - so she finally decides that she'll enter and help her friend win.
When spoiled and rich Layla Chamberlin starts sabotaging Chistie's chances to win, the competitive streak in Aubrey kicks into high gear. She wants to win this pageant even if it means beating Christie! All she wants to do is see Layla's pretty face when she loses.
To make matters worse, Aubrey has started dating Layla's brother, Grayson, who she thinks she can trust but she isn't really sure. After all, he is the brother of her biggest competition...
Can Aubrey recover her friendship with Christie? And will her relationship with Grayson ever get beyond the love-hate stage? You'll have to read on to find out!
SNOW QUEEN is a great book. It's got all the things a girl could want in a story - cute boys and lots of drama!
First of all, I chose this book because I had read it once before, therefore I knew it would be a short and sweet read that I wouldn't have any trouble posting a review about.
This book starts off with Aubrey coming going up to Vermont with her friend Christie and Christie's cousin Charlie. Aubrey is summarily obsessed with seeing snow for the first time because she is from Florida, where they do not normally have snow so she hasn't once seen it before.
Before long, Aubrey finds out that Christie has signed herself along with Aubrey up to participate in the Snow Queen competition, which is basically like Miss Teen America, except with only people around the Chamberlain Ski Resort and Spa, owned by who Aubrey soon finds out are their 'enemies'.
Even though this didn't happen during the school year, I found this seeming like one of those light-on-the-drama books that have a small conflict, with the queen rhymes-with-witch (that came from the book) and her hot older brother that the protagonist has a crush on.
Like all short and sweet stories, it ended how you would expect it to end (but I won't completely reveal that).
So, I did like this book, as a light read type thing that wasn't one of those killer, hangover/cliffhanger books that you eat away at.
This story is a cute love story, he author didn’t accidentally chose a name for his story, because just like in a children tale which bears the same name he manages to show how love can do everything, even melt the heart that seems forever frozen. this story is about that girl called Aurbery. She is a tomboy and is the only girl that can play hockey in her school. is walking through Central Park when he is inspired to look up at the sky; there he sees a pale, translucent light that seems to regard him in a distinctly godlike way. Barrett doesn’t believe in visions—or in God—but he can’t deny what he’s seen.
At the same time, in the not-quite-gentrified Bushwick neighborhood of Brooklyn, Tyler, Barrett’s older brother, a struggling musician, is trying—and failing—to write a wedding song for Beth, his wife-to-be, who is seriously ill. Tyler is determined to write a song that will not be merely a sentimental ballad but an enduring expression of love.
Barrett, haunted by the light, turns unexpectedly to religion. Tyler grows increasingly convinced that only drugs can release his creative powers. Beth tries to face mortality with as much courage as she can summon.
One of those typical teen chicklit books that will sure to warm your hearts.
The plot was really cute and followed the typical girl meets boy, boy meets girl, girl thinks boy is tricking her, boy is oblivious to everything, they fall in love and end up winning what they wanted to win. Yea, that pretty much summed up this book, haha. I mean, other than that, there's not really much to the whole thing. There's no real depth or thinking involved. It's one of those beach reads that once you read it once, you don't ever really need to read it again. Unless of course, you're feeling for some chicklit love.
The characters, Aubrey, Christie and Grayson, are adorable. It's really easy to fall in love with all of them and wish that all will go well with their dreams. I loved all their inner struggles and how they all managed to become more mature as the book went forward.
Overall, Snow Queen is really cute and you will definitely fall in love with all the characters despite their many little flaws.
Words cannot express how much I loved reading Snow Queen. It was such a cute and sweet read (even though Aubrey isn't exactly the "cute and sweet" type) , I can read it over and over again and never get tired of it! In fact, it was so good, I couldn't put it down. Literally. I was planning to read this book the next day I received it because I didn't have time, but that night, I couldn't sleep. I don't remember why I couldn't sleep, but I do remember that I did finish the book in one sitting. I was immediately sucked into the book, every page left me wanting for more! Aubrey is a really funny character, her personality is so unique! I also loved Aubrey's and Christie's friendship. It reminded me of my best friend Alissa! I'm really glad that I stayed up for this! I recommend this book to anyone who wants a quick read. Even though it is the beginning of summer and Snow Queen is obviously a winter read, I suggest you read it anytime of the year. It will put you in the holiday mood!
I don't even know what to say about it. I loved Aubrey and Grayson the moments their eyes locked. I loved those "I proved you wrong" moments. I can feel each and everyone of the characters' emotions (except Layla of course, she has a horrible personality that cannot be justified AT ALL). I loved the setting, the characters, and the conflicts were understandable, even if they were annoying. (come on, who actually likes conflict, right?) I can understand where Aubrey is coming from, though she does become too rash at times.
I am not a pageant person, even if they are fun to watch at times. Then again, Aubrey was doing it for her friend and to prove Layla wrong, which I guess I can understand.
I really can't form a proper book review as of the moment. I'm still having a hangover from it. But I assure you- it shall not disappoint.
Definitely a cute read. I really like Kieran Scott's writing style, which is I think why I enjoy her books as Emma Harrison. They're not necessarily the best books ever, but they have her style, which I always like. First of all, Aubrey and Christie are two of my favourite girl names, so I thought it was funny how they were both characters in this book. I liked the characters for the most part. Aubrey annoyed me when she suddenly flipped her whole plan for the pageant and left Christie on her own, but thankfully that was rectified. Grayson was a good leading man for the story. It was irritating that he would be so completely snowed in by his sister, though -- you can't tell me Layla never slipped up at all on her Miss Perfect act before. All in all, a cute winter read that I would definitely recommend.
I expected a cute, undemanding story to pass my time and that's exactly what I got. The story is entertaining, sweet and at times funny (and the author doesn't dwell on embarassing situations which is very important for me!). I liked the pageant-theme, even though at times Aubrey seemed like reverse snob, acting all self-righteous just because she didn't really care for the contest. Which brings me to the reason why I gave the story only four stars. Aubrey, the heroine. Sometimes, she was just too annoying. I didn't really see the attraction from Grayson's perspective. Somehow she ended up acting like a drama-queen every other time they were together. Well okay, a few times she was in the right, but he didn't know that, so I'm at a bit of a loss, but apart from that...
Like I said, it's a sweet and funny story, with a very sympathetic hero and great secondary characters.
My Thoughts: I started reading Snow Queen and was instantly sucked in. I loved reading all about Aubrey and her mission to help her friend Christie win Snow Queen, except of course the hip popular snotty girl thinks she has to win, so Aubrey starts to get a competitive streak and wants to win even if it means going against her best friend Christie. Aubrey also starts falling for a guy and you'll never guess who the guy is, really is! Read the book to find out who wins Snow Queen, does Christie and Aubrey's friendship last? What happens with the boy?
Overall: Great quick read! Would make a great Christmas present since its got snow and boys in it! This book is just the right book to read during the holiday season! Get yourself a copy now!
This book was pretty good, although a couple of issues frustrated me. I thought Aubrey was a little intense about things and I hated how she seemed to disregard her best friend. I also felt a little motion sick from the emotion jumping Aubrey did. Reminded me of in Friends where Monica mimics Rachel and says "I love Ross! I hate Ross! I love Ross! I hate Ross!" She just jumped back and forth in her feelings for Grayson so much. But, I did like Grayson. Thought he was a little naive, but still mostly a good guy. I also liked that Aubrey wasn't made into the typical tomboy made beauty queen. She said she liked skirts, and every now and then wore make-up. She just liked hockey. Overall a solid four on the five star scale
What can I say? From the moment my eyes hit the bright pink cover, I knew I was in for some YA fic fun. In the end, it was even a bit more than I anticipated! There's love potential, competition, high-stakes risk...all with a chance of snow! All the elements of a your favorite reads, in a fun weekend page turners. Should you trry it out? Well, in this readers opinion, if you like a story about best friends, evil girl-like competitors, and eye candy...with a pageant background....YES! Happy reading.....
This was a cute, fun read. It's cliche as expected, but it was entertaining. My favorite line is, "Can we analyze my insanity later?"
I will say one thing though, and that is I find it really, really hard to believe that an 18-year-old boy is so blind by his sister's true personality. A distant relative, a friend, a crush or someone else, I can understand, but a sibling that close in age? Kind of a bit unrealistic.
Still not a bad read at all, if you're looking for something quick and fun.
Cute enough for a YA novel. I though it was boring at first, but after reading it all throughout, I had to admit I admired it. Pretty easy going Aubrey reminded me of, well, me. Tomboyish, wants to see snow, doesn't approve much of pageants. And her winning will. With a spark of romance, contest and friendship, it's a pretty good Emma Harrison.
I am torn between four or five stars, but this is cute, too. :) But I'd have to say Layla irritated me so much. I was annoyed when she acted so nicey nicey around Grayson and when he's not there she's just an evil witch. Still, Grayson and Aubrey are obviously meant for each other from the beginning and yeah that. :)
Cute, quick read. There were parts that I thought were obvious plot points, but when you pushed that aside it was just a fun read. Aubrey could be selfish at times and Grayson was clueless, but it just worked together. Emma Harrison definitely knows how to tell a story.
I was hoping for something Princess Diary-esque from this book, funny and cute and just a fun read. I'm afraid it was a disappointment. The characters didn't seem fully developed and the writing was too clunky for me to get into it. Some people loved it, but I'm not one of them.
