The Believer's Conditional Security : Eternal Security Refuted

Rate this book
This fully-documented, 801-page volume will take the reader from the origin of eternal security or once saved, always saved (OSAS) to the present time, as the contemporary OSAS teachers of our day are quoted hundreds of times and their teachings are examined under the light of God's truth. If you are like many, among other things, you will be shocked to learn that the teaching of OSAS is sometimes equated to grace and the gospel! Furthermore, the chapters exposing Calvin's dark side and unmasking the Synod of Dort (1618-1619), will give a factual, historical account that seems to be little known in our day. But most importantly, hundreds of Scriptures are cited in both offensive and defensive ways that will substantiate The Believer's Conditional Security.

This book has given me much to ponder and consider. I think I fall somewhere in the middle between the continuum between Calvinism and where this author is coming from. I am still reading and forming opinions, and this is only the first of six books I plan to read, three each for this position and it’s opposite.

Dan Corner has truly put a lot of effort into this book. I will give him that. Anyone who writes an 800+ page book should be congradulated for their efforts.

That being said, this book is greatly lacking. Firstly, the print quality of this book is not the greatest. The text is ridden with too much bold text, changes in font, and italics. The ink, in certain places, is also fading on the copy that I have.

The content of the book is quite whimsical. Even the advocate of Conditional Eternal Security should be ashamed of its whimsical approach. It is heavily rhetorical, plays on emotion, and in all the steam it puts forth amounts to very little in terms of solid, indepth exegesis.

It is hardly "exhaustive" as many claim, though it will "exhaust" your eyes due to all the bold typeface utilized.

The worst kind of trash disguised as a treatise on Christianity.
Every page is filled with logical fallacies and/or outright lies.
Every one of Corner's "We Destroy Arguments" is written as, "Yes, that's what the Bible says, but trust me to tell you what it REALLY MEANS."

I bought this book when it was still new...the late 1990s...at a Christian bookstore in Orlando, FL. Some friends were starting to believe in this "A person can be saved but still 'fall away' and end up in Hell for eternity" and this was one of the books they talked about their church using in Bible study to support that teaching. I wanted to see what was up...and once I saw how anti-Bible this book was, I wrote up a study guide that my friends could use to see how every argument Corner made was based on rejecting what the Bible says and substituting what Corner wanted it to say.

If you're getting or just reading this book to affirm your belief that salvation is a gift from God that cannot be rejected or taken away, it's okay for that because you will see that every argument against your belief is nonsense.

I recently took this book out of storage because I have a new set of friends who needed to hear how all the things they're being taught are lies.

This is an excellent, well-researched book on the subject of the doctrine of Eternal Security as it is preached from many pulpits. Corner does a wonderful job bringing scripture to bear on this important subject. I am on page 198 and from what I've read so far I would highly recommend it. If you've ever wondered why so many scriptures are left out in contemporary sermons and why so many things don't seem to fit, then this book is for you. If you've ever wondered why you don't have victory over sin, maybe part of the problem is that you have the wrong teaching- then this book is for you.

EXCELLENT resource book! Extremely comprehensive and very well laid out. This is a "must-have" to refute the teachings of unconditional eternal security or "once saved, always saved". The believer can rest secure in his eternal salvation . . . as long as he meets the conditions God sets forth in His Word. Dan gives a good argument and refutes all the misconceptions regarding eternal security in a very clear and straight forward manner. Highly recommend.
