About the author

Santiago Pérez Triana was born in Bogotá in 1858, but lived most of his life abroad. He was one of the leading proponents of pan-American unity and crusaders against European intervention in the western hemisphere.

He was also a poet, journalist, diplomat, traveler and writer of stories and essays. He wrote a book of children's stories entitled Cuentos a Sonny, dedicated to his son when they lived in London. It was originally written in English. It was translated into Spanish by Tomás Eastman, and published, for the first time in a Spanish version, in Madrid in 1907.
