This was a thoroughly enjoyable collection of short stories and a perfect way to kick off the spooky season!
There is a great variety of types of stories: some told from kid characters and some from adults; some in the present day (well, the 1980's at least) and some in the past; some involving ghosts, witches and vampires, and some involving something more unique. The stories are aimed at children but I really enjoyed reading them as an adult and I felt they weren't too 'childish' at all.
My favourite was Right Inn which I won't say anything about but just know that I loved it! I will definitely keep an eye out for more of these 'Midnight Hour' collections by J.B. Stamper.
More Tales for the Midnight Hour It was a dark stormy night in late October, the night before Halloween and you're all alone at home. You hear a howl from a wolf up on top of the mountains outside your window pane. There's a sound coming from upstairs right above you. The noise moves around closer and closer to the stairs to go downstairs. (More Tales for the Midnight Hour) is better than the first one to be honest. But that’s my opinion. This book had me on my toes the whole time. The book is a total of 117 pages long with 13 Horror stories. There wasn’t anything I didn’t like about this book. The author of this book Is J.B.Stamper he’s been writing for many years now. This book was published on January 1987, this books older than me.
Outside in the dark, the wind howls. Jagged streaks of lightning shoot across the sky. Falling leaves and heavy raindrops splatter against the windowpanes. Slowly the old grandfather clock chimes twelve. Time to read a book such as "More Tales for the Midnight Hour" which is sure to send a chill down your spine despite the stories being a tad dated.

This was a re-read, and what a fun re-read it was! Absolutely loved these books as a kid, and they're still just as fun as I remember them being. They hold up to the test of time very well.
I remember reading this book as a kid, curled up in old quilts in the musty guest bedroom at my mawmaw's house. The stories in this book, though very short and simple (they are children's stories after all) have stuck with me for years, even after I had forgotten the name of the book. With a little help from a friend, I found it again, and all the joy I felt from the first read came crawling back. Most of the stories are pretty spooky for a kid's book, even if many of them still end in a very mundane and anticlimactic way. There's ghosts, ghouls, witches, and just some...unexplainable events. There's a little bit of something for everyone in for a chill down their spine, so I'd definitely recommend it for a quick and fun read for the Halloween season!
The stories in this book were still just as good as they were the first time I read them at 12. Two of the stories are not exactly horror stories but still fun. There's quite a few stories that are set in medieval times. My favorite story is The Collector. It's every bit as macabre as I remember it being.
Despite the fact these are for kids and young adults this was an enjoyable collection of stories. The author does a great job at creating atmosphere even if the stories are predictable. Its a low key read and thoroughly entertaining.
Still really enjoyed this and the entire Midnight Hour series. They are not truly frightening, but I do love the twists. There was one story where literally everyone died. That was a surprise.
Wow! Just finished this book, and I didn’t expect it to actually creep me out. The stories have a lot of variety and are very enjoyable. I was a bit paranoid afterwards, because of the suspense that followed the ending of each story. It always ended on a cliffhanger, then the next one began. I finished this book pretty quickly, because though it had 122 pages, the text was quite large. It reminded me of the series “Goosebumps” by R.L. Stine, and funny enough, the author of these books is “J.B. Stamper.” I see a connection. I would recommend this book, and will try to read the other books in this series. Warning: do not read this at midnight, despite the title. You will not sleep.
It's like the author had a specific length to write which dictated the stories too much. Some stop too soon, others don't have enough content. Not a great collection in my opinion.
