In Onyx, DC's newest fetish club, Ian Vaughan, a Dom returning to the scene, finds himself greatly interested in the crowd favorite: Kale Daniels. After observing a tense, staged whipping, Ian takes Kale for a private session of their own. Can these two men form a bond that goes beyond the public sphere of Onyx?
Quite a disappointing short story. For one thing, 13% of the story length is filler; bio of the author, info about other works in the series etc. This makes an already short story even shorter.
Secondly the medical play is very light and mild, whereas from the other reviews I expected something much harder.
Thirdly, the whole thing rang really false. One MC says "just being around you . . .talking to you . . . makes me feel comfortable, wanted" but as this point they've hardly said a word to each other and spent almost no time together.
I know it's a short story, but it was BDSM lite, and it wasn't even romantic to make up for the lack of hotness. Re-read the Deviations series instead .
Onyx is a BDSM night club where willing subs can meet good Doms. Ian was one of the first Dom to join the club, but he is now probably tired of the lifestyle... he is not tired of the D / s plays, he is tired to do that in public, he is more for private games. So he returns to Onyx not to find a new sub, but only to look around.
Kale is a 24 years old sub who has recently brought with his Master; it's not said, but I have the feeling that it was Kale who ended the relationship. Kale is not a normal sub, he is blind, and this means that he has special needs... are you thinking that he needs for his Master to be gentler than usual? to be less forceful? On the contrary, Kale needs added stimulation, he needs that everything is done with more intensity and he needs variety.
Basically the short story is the detailed narration of the two scenes in which Kale and Ian are involved. They are particularly boundaries pushing, and where some "kinky" play I have already read before (wax and similar), some other were quite new (medical techniques turned in sex games... don't know if I personally would have liked to be involved in them...). Anyway it's not Ian who pushes Kale, it's Kale who asks for more, and so, if he is willing, it's all right. I think that Kale is trying to overcome his disability trying to feel more with all his other senses. Maybe I felt Ian a bit detached, but he is really caring with Kale, also and above all, before and after their games. He takes care of him, and he is sweet and tender.
For being a short story, it has quite a lot on course, and even if not all the past and the reason of the main characters are developed, it's said enough to be not only a way to read of kinky sex. And above all, I'm always interested to see how disability is dealt in a romance, and I think that this time it was done in a nice way.
Ian Vaughan is an experienced and accomplished Dom, just returning to the scene after a well-deserved vacation. On his visit to Onyx, a DC club catering to fetish and BDSM enthusiasts, Ian watches a public scene between fellow Dom member Alan and an intriguing young submissive, Kale Daniels. Kale is a beautiful sub, and a particular crowd favorite, and Ian is drawn to his responsiveness immediately.
There is a slight difference between Kale and many of the other subs at the club, and it requires a bit of extra attention. The young sub intrigues Ian and they soon agree upon a private session. Together they discover an immediate bond, and common fetishes that both quite enjoy. The only question is if this will be a one-time play session, or if their connection will extend beyond the club.
Onyx is a titillating tale of the initial meeting of Ian and Kale, two men looking for something they haven't yet found. The connection between them is immediate and it translates well onto the page. The BDSM play is intense, yet readers who are newer to these types of kinks won't find it over the top. In particular, the story explores a kink that few write about, medical play. It's a powerful fetish when done right and one that both Ian and Kale fully embrace.
Both characters are well developed, especially as this is within the confines of a short story. It is easy to see the power that Ian possesses as a Dom and the physical and emotional experience Kale has when submitting to another. This is a wonderful introduction to two fascinating characters and a stimulating exploration of BDSM play that shouldn't be missed.
I have enjoyed almost everything I've read by Mychael Black and Shayne Carmichael. Their work is very sensual, and quite often includes bondage and submission. Many of their stories are also paranormal romance. While this hot little story has no werewolves or angels, it does throw a wrench into the sometimes cliche world of BDSM.
Onyx introduces Kale, a submissive with a very unique characteristic - he's blind. A lot of BDSM focuses on heightening the senses through pain, discipline, sight/sound deprivation, etc. So, a blind submissive seems a natural fit for exploring such things at a new level. Plus it's nice to see some diversity beyond the perfect, flawless adonises readers usually encounter. Kale isn't perfect, but he may just be the perfect sub! Ian is a dom who has nearly given up on finding a responsive sub. He finds more than he hoped for in Kale. Though this hints at a possible romance, the main focus is how these two practically set fire to your screen with their scenes. Though this is brief, Black and Carmichael pack a lot into these pages and I want more of Kale and Ian. Highly recommended for BDSM or erotic romance fans!
I really liked this short story. Before starting this book, I was a little worried that Kale would have a chip on his shoulder because he was blind, but he was really a pleasant, enjoyable guy. He used his blindness as part of the scenes because he didn't want to be told what was going to happen. It added to the kink. I loved the medical play scene and hope to read more such scenes in subsequent books. I look forward to reading the next book in the series.
A charming, hot story. BDSM and romance - what more could you ask for? It was really well done for a shorter story and I'd love to see this author write some full length novels. I'm glad there is a sequel!
Not bad for the short length (which is not usually my cup of tea). Kale as a blind sub was an interesting premise and handled very well. "Medical play," however, was just too weird for me.
Blind sub Kale finds a new Master at the D/s club Onyx. Kale is fairly experienced, his Master very. The story is short. First time I've read a medical play scene, which was interesting.
