I had to edit this review when I found out that the entire thing was fiction. The author did NOT survive the USS Indianapolis disaster. In fact, the author isn't even "Brad Matthews". It's some asshole named "Nelson DeMille" who wrote it to cash in on the popularity of Jaws. Fuck you Nelson DeMille.

-----------------------------------------------------

I read this as a kid in my "shark phase". I will need to revisit it one day, but here's the basics:

1) A great story of the USS Indianapolis told from the standpoint of a man who survived it (NOT! See above)

2) The lifelong hunt for sharks by the author was interesting, but not terribly memorable. His cruelty toward them is understandable, but nonetheless awful.

3) The search for living "Carcharadon Megaladon" sharks is kind of hokey, but not completely unbelievable.
