Following the release of the third Dirty Harry movie, The Enforcer, in 1976, Clint Eastwood made it clear that he did not intend to make any more Dirty Harry movies. In 1981, Warner Books (the publishing arm of Warner Bros., which made the films) began publishing a number of men's adventure series under its now-defunct "Men of Action" line. One such series features the further adventures of Inspector Harry Callahan. The books, written primarily by Ric Meyers and Leslie Alan Horvitz, appeared under the house name Dane Hartman. The series was brought to an end when Eastwood decided to direct, produce, and star in a fourth Dirty Harry movie, Sudden Impact, which was released in December 1983.

A high school girl pushed onto a train track as a train is coming. The body looled like a goldfish in a blender. The screaming sounds. The noise of wet cracking, tearing. Her guts like spilled taco filling. Harry uses the classic line. "Do you feel lucky". When Harry is on duty a meat wagon is ready 24/7. Another body run over. The guts ripped apart and dragging along with the train. Harry pumps bullets into a secret government organization. His trusty Magnum only holds 9 and he needs an upgrade. Now unleashing a semi-auto, pumping rounds into a flying helicopter's pilot and copilot. Harry is now Arnie, actually no, he's bloody Rambo. Harry ain't dirty he's fucking filthy. Harry is captured, strung naked upside down and getting whipped with a cane. Is what it is.

This unfortunately wasnt very good. It had a lot of action but a lot of it was poorly written. The plot of the women being pushed on to subway tracks was interesting til you realise the stupid reason why. Then the overall plot is interesting but becomes kind of muddled in the telling. I think there is a good ideal for a book in this novel but its just not done that well. The dirty Harry character is written ok, I think that is one thing that they did right.

Cant recommend, I enjoyed it ok just for the nostagila of the films, but dont think I would read another one from the series.

I've read ten of these Dirty Harry books in the last two weeks and I think by the time I reached this one I was suffering from 'Dirty Harry Fatigue Syndrome'...they are all starting to blur into one giant shoot-out.
