Terry Goodkind ile ilk tanışmam, az sonra "Hayatım boyunca nerelerdeydin?" diye yuvarlanıp, ağlayıp sızlayacağım. Ama bilirsiniz dostlarım bilinçaltı çok serseri bir şeydir, hayatım boyunca nerelerdeydin lafını duyunca geldi mi gözüme Rihanna'nın yüzü, çalıyor mu kafamda deli deli melodiler hemen toparladım kendimi.
Şimdi şöyle ki, yazarın çok tatlı masalsı bir dili var; kitaba başlıyorsun şak diye maceranın ortasında buluyorsun kendini. Anlatılan karakterler tanıdıkmış hissi uyandırıyor, mekanlar çok güzel. Biliyorsunuz Fantastik eserler böyle, bir noktada hepsi birbirini çağrıştırıyor. Bunda okuduğum fantastik eserlerde görmediğim düşmanlar, türlü yaratıklarla karşılaştım haliyle çok hoşuma gitti.
Kitapla ilgili beğenmediğim tek nokta bilmecelere fazla yer vermesi oldu. Richard gibi bende pek anlaşamam kendileriyle. Gidişatı etkileyecek kadar yoğun değildi, ama şahsım adına olmasa da olurmuş dedim.

Kısım 2'yi okuyacağım, çünkü kitabın son 100 sayfasında gerçekten dişe dokunur ve beni çeken bir şeyler oldu.
Ama oraya gelene kadar...
Bu kitabı defalarca kez bırakma noktasına geldim. Kendime durmadan neden böyle işkence ettiğimi, bu kitaba harcadığım vakitte bambaşka şeyler okuyabileceğimi söyledim durdum. Özellikle 100-150 arası bir yerde öyle bir sinirlendim ki kitabı kesin bırakıyordum, sonra yine devam ettim.
Terry Goodkind nasıl ustalar arasında anılıyor, ben şimdilik anlamadım. Çünkü yazarlıklarına yardımcı olduğum pek çok yerli yeni yazarı eleştirdiğim her şeyi bu adam yapmış. Korkunç! Bu noktadaki bir yazar aşağıda sayacaklarımı nasıl yapar? Editörler neden vakti zamanında müdahale etmemiş? Hayır efendim, yazıldığı dönem ile ilgisi yok bunun. Şöyle anlatayım:
- Görülür görülmez dost olunan karakterler. Daha dur, ormanda tanıştın, bambaşka yerlerden gelmiş insanlar bunlar. Hemen bir kanka olma, hemen bir dost olma. Sonra da tüm kitap boyunca, "ama biz dostuz. Dostlar böyle yapar. Çünkü dostluk bunu gerektirir. Biz dost değil miyiz? Dostumsun! Dostum için her şeyi yaparım" goygoyu bana fenalık getirtti.
O şartlar altında imkansız olan bu ışık hızıyla kurulan dostluklar, normal şartlar için bile normal değil.
- Doğruluk İzcisi olarak seçilen Richard, o ana kadar öfkesini sürekli dizginleyen ve öfkeden korkan bir karakterken nasıl oldu da belli amaçlarla öfkesini gizleyen bir tipten Doğruluk İzcisi'nin o meşhur haklı öfkesine dönüştürdü? Bu nasıl KÜT diye bir dönüşümdür? Nasıl saçma ve karakter gelişimini hiçe sayan bir şeydir?
- Sonrasında bir de yeni yazarları özellikle uyardığım, pek çok usta yazarın asla yapmadığı (bu alanda en iyilerden biri Brandon Sanderson) bir şey var. O da şu ki, dünyayı ve olayları olay örgüsü içine yedirmek. Ama Terry Goodkind tam bir amatör, tam bir hevesle ilk kez fantastik yazmaya başlamış biri gibi olayların ortasında durup Richard'ın saçma sapan sorularıyla her şeyi anlatıyor. Hayır bir de diğer başkarakter Kahlan demez mi, ay nasıl oluyor da ne sorsan cevaplıyorum! Aman Tanrım! Nasıl başarıyorsun bunu!

- Daha vahimi geliyor, dünyanın en düz, en sıradan sorularını soran Richard takdir topluyor. Burada kitabı bir kez daha bırakma noktasına geldim. Bu nasıl düz bir kurgudur? Nasıl alelade repliklerdir?
- Koskoca Büyük Büyücü'nün aklına gelmeyen, ama herhangi bir okurun açıkça göreceği çözümü Richar efendi söyleyince "vay Richard! Senden büyücü de olurmuş ha, çok iyi büyücü olurdun sen" sözleri yükseliyor. Şaka mı bu?
- Büyük Büyücümüzün bu derece karikatürize oluşu inanılmaz eğreti. Esprili falan bir karakter değil; o konumdaki birinin bu denli yılışık olması benim için bir facia.

- Kahlan'a bir "uu çok zeki kadın. Aman uzak durun, İtirafçı Ana" bu gibi saygı ve korku gösteriliyor, bir de böyle öylesine bir kadınmış gibi erkekler konuşurken ortamdan yollanıyor, yok çorba yapmaya gönderiliyor falan. Bu ne yaman çelişkidir? Neler oluyor? Bir karar ver Goodkind. Hayır Kahlan da paşa paşa her şeyi yapıyor hani. Güçlü kadın karakter yapmaya çalışmış, hiç olmamış. Onu da işte arada bir diğer karakterlerin "uuu çok zeki kadın, çok güçlü kadın" sözleriyle kotarmaya çalışmış.
- Yakışıklı oğlan, güzel kız... Tamam hadi, bunu dönemin trendine bağlayalım. Tamam tamam, bunu dönemle ilişkilendirdik gitti.
Bu kitap, fantastik edebiyata ilk kez adım atanlar için uygun bir seri. Benim gibi fantastik edebiyatla pek çok eser aracılığıyla haşır neşir olmuş, dahası pek çok farklı türde kitap okuyan biri için uygun değil. Yok, çıldırıyordum okurken.
Ayrıca, benim fantastik edebiyata adım atmama aracı olan Ejderha Mızrağı'nı bu seriden çok daha başarılı buldum "şimdilik". Yıllar sonra açık ve eksikliklerini tespit ettiğim bu güzedi seri, halen daha bazı açılardan muadillerinin önünde yer alıyor.
Bu yorumu okuyan güzel insanlar. Fantastik edebiyatla yeni yeni tanışıyorsanız alın, keyifle okuyun. Yok zaten aşinaysınız, Kısım I'de sabrınız sınanabilir.
Ben Kısım II ile devam edeceğim. Bırakmayacağım seriyi. Özellikle kitabın son 100 sayfasında yazar sonunda dişe dokunur bir şeyler yapmaya başladığı için devamını okumayı hak ediyor.

('El libro de las sombras contadas' es la primer mitad del libro 1 original: 'Wizard's First Rule')
Tenía expectativas altas que no se cumplieron, pero tampoco fue un desastre.
Con un primer capítulo bastante soso y una narración nada sobresaliente –casi diría amateur por momentos– es que comienza esta saga que el autor no parece querer terminar jamás. Van14 libros 16 libros y contando. Y si lo leen en español es aún peor, porque cada volumen está dividido en dos.
Afortunadamente en el segundo capítulo mejoró todo, justo cuando empezaba a ver con creciente desesperanza las páginas que tenía por delante.
Esta es la historia de Richard Cypher, un chico que no parece tener nada de especial, y que luego de que su padre sea asesinado decide tomar en sus propias manos la búsqueda del culpable. Esto lo llevará a recorrer los bosques que rodean su pueblo y conocer (en el segundo capítulo) a Kahlan, una mujer misteriosa que es perseguida por un grupo de asesinos.
Luego de desembarazarse de sus perseguidores, Richard y Kahlan entablarán una amistad instantánea que será mencionada cada vez que sea posible, y que muy pronto me taladró el cerebro.
Pasados cinco días de conocerse, Richard la proclamará su mejor amiga a pesar de no saber prácticamente nada sobre ella.
Es obvio desde el comienzo que las intenciones del autor se inclinan hacia el lado de un muy forzado (e inexplicado) 'romance prohibido', idea que en este caso no me fascina en absoluto.
Si bien el estilo narrativo no destaca, hay muchas descripciones lindas intercaladas cada tanto, y cuando hay escenas de acción o de tensión la historia definitivamente repunta y se pone mucho más interesante. Terry Goodkind tiene una imaginación interesante, pero falla al transmitirnos muchas de sus ideas con una narración que roza lo tosco por su falta de recursos.
La construcción del mundo es interesante, si bien no queda completamente clara hasta pasados unos cuantos capítulos. Tenemos divisiones territoriales y una zona en el medio, El Límite, llena de peligro; una profecía de un Buscador (oh misterio, ¿quién será?); unos cuantos personajes con potencial y un protagonista que roza peligrosamente el Gary Stuismo.
No me gustó que el autor use el bajísimo recurso de "resaltar" la "inteligencia" del protagonista amputándole el raciocinio al resto de los personajes, villano incluído. Además Richard empieza el libro siendo medio despistado (por no decir imbécil), así que esa repentina evolución de su coeficiente me resultó demasiado mágica hasta para un libro con magia.
Algo que no me cuajó en todo el libro fueron las personalidades del protagonista y del villano. Sus formas de ser son muy cambiantes, y no me queda claro si esa ambigüedad es intencional (pero mal hecha) o si le salió de casualidad. Da la sensación de que Richard no es mejor que aquellos a quienes intenta detener.
El enemigo, Rhal el Oscuro, es extrañamente soso para ser un mago tan temido y poderoso. Hay muchas cosas sosas, la verdad. La relación de los protagonistas es sosa; una buena cantidad de diálogos son sosos y hay demasiados intentos de frases profundas que resultan filosofía barata... y sosa.
Parecería que el mensaje general es 'el fin justifica los medios', y me chocó durante toda la historia que lo que da poder a Richard –y que lo protege de la magia de cierto objeto– es la furia, y no la voluntad o alguna otra cosa más positiva. Es un mensaje extrañamente negativo y casi oscuro para una historia donde todo es tan claramente bien-o-mal. «La fuerza de la furia te proporciona la voluntad de imponerte a cualquier precio» .
Encuentro que no hay areas grises, sino que es todo o blanco o negro. Los buenos sonríen demasiado y se disculpan por todo, y los malos son realmente muy malos. Hay también un exceso de violadores y un exceso de violaciones (a mujeres y niños, espanto) que leemos desde el punto de vista exclusivo del violador. No era necesaria la crónica, Terry.
Sé que critiqué mucho, pero a pesar de todo éste es un libro entretenido. A la cruzada de Richard y Kahlan van a sumarse varios personajes, y la trama se va acomplicar extender lo suficiente como para captar la atención, si bien no es una de las historias más elaboradas del mundo.
No es una de las mejores sagas de fantasía épica que he leído... pero creo que la voy a seguir un poco más. Hubo cosas que me interesaron, y definitivamente tiene capítulos muy buenos, a pesar de que aparecen intercalados con otros lentos y repetitivos.
Es para fans del género, muy fans del género, de los que no se quieren perder ningún libro conocido (como me pasa a mí) si bien a veces el resultado no sea tan bueno como el esperado.

Parecería que el mensaje general es 'el fin justifica los medios', y me chocó durante toda la historia que lo que da poder a Richard –y que lo protege de la magia de cierto objeto– es la furia, y no la voluntad o alguna otra cosa más positiva. Es un mensaje extrañamente negativo y casi oscuro para una historia donde todo es tan claramente bien-o-mal. «La fuerza de la furia te proporciona la voluntad de imponerte a cualquier precio» .
Encuentro que no hay areas grises, sino que es todo o blanco o negro. Los buenos sonríen demasiado y se disculpan por todo, y los malos son realmente muy malos. Hay también un exceso de violadores y un exceso de violaciones (a mujeres y niños, espanto) que leemos desde el punto de vista exclusivo del violador. No era necesaria la crónica, Terry.
Sé que critiqué mucho, pero a pesar de todo éste es un libro entretenido. A la cruzada de Richard y Kahlan van a sumarse varios personajes, y la trama se va a
No es una de las mejores sagas de fantasía épica que he leído... pero creo que la voy a seguir un poco más. Hubo cosas que me interesaron, y definitivamente tiene capítulos muy buenos, a pesar de que aparecen intercalados con otros lentos y repetitivos.
Es para fans del género, muy fans del género, de los que no se quieren perder ningún libro conocido (como me pasa a mí) si bien a veces el resultado no sea tan bueno como el esperado.

Aqui está a primeira parte do livro A Primeira Regra dos Feiticeiros. Estava muito entusiasmada para o ler e mesmo com algumas opiniões mais negativas continuei a estar curiosa...e ainda bem!
O livro conta a história de Richard Cyper, um jovem guia de floresta que, depois de uma série de acontecimentos estranhos e medonhos, acaba por se encontrar perante uma difícil tarefa: ser Seeker (aquele que procura a Verdade). Ao encontrar e defender uma jovem misteriosa, Kahlan, Richard começa uma aventura para a salvação do seu povo, contra Draken Rahl, filho do antigo líder de O'Hara, que tentara quebrar todos os povos sob o seu jugo. Num mundo dividido em três por uma fronteira mágica, tudo começa a desmoronar-se e Richard tem de fazer tudo para salvar o seu povo.
Pode ser um tema muito batido na Fantasia. Muitas são as histórias cujo contexto é este: demandas para salvar o mundo de alguma personagem malvada. A premissa não é nova, mas a história é boa. As personagens são interessantes e bastante reais, nomeadamente as principais. É uma narrativa de viagem bastante fluente e rápida. A linguagem é limpa, os detalhes não são demasiados, mas na medida certa para que o leitor imagine o ambiente e as personagens. Portanto, por mais que possa parecer mais do mesmo, não é.
Quanto às personagens, gostei bastante de Richard e de Kahlan, cuja relação é bastante interessante. Os segredos de ambos estão sempre no meio, ali a tentar aparecer, mas sem nunca serem revelados, deixando o mistério no ar quanto às reacções das personagens e aos segredos em si. Há um mistério à volta das personagens que me é muito agradável. Também as personagens secundárias são bastantes completas, harmonizando toda a narrativa, aparecendo nos momentos mais relevantes e relevando-se fulcrais para o desenrolar da narrativa.
Senti um ambiente de mistério e de algum terror em determinados momentos, especialmente aquando de certas aventuras perto da Fronteira, isto devido às intensas descrições da atmosfera desses momentos. Este factor entusiasmou-me bastante, uma vez que intensificou ainda mais a narrativa.
Há de tudo um pouco ao longo da narrativa: amor, amizade, terror, atrocidades, guerras, intriga, política, coragem, humor e perseverança. Ou seja, tem de tudo um pouco.
É uma história bem contada, com aventuras que deixam o leitor a perguntar por mais e a querer pegar no livro para ver o que vai acontecer, o que é sempre um incentivo à leitura!
Outro aspecto que muito apreciei foi o facto de existirem bastantes dilemas morais ao longo da história, em que as personagens têm muito com que pensar e reflectir, o que se relaciona intimamente com a realidade que as personagens demonstram.
O único reparo que tenho a fazer é sobre a existência de muitos "queridos" e "queridas", que, a meu ver, não eram muito necessários, pelo menos tantas vezes.
Agora é ler a segunda parte e esperar que mantenha o ritmo e a qualidade desta parte, o que espero que aconteça, uma vez que as duas partes são o livro todo.
Recomendo vivamente! Mais um livro de Fantasia que mostra tudo que este género tem para oferecer.

Kitabın en iyi yanı ilk sayfadan itibaren geçtiği diyarın merkezine okuyucusunu ışınlaması olabilir. Akıcı, merak uyandırıcı, karakter betimlemesi başarılı, dili yalın ancak kendine ait terimleri olan bir seri diyebilirim. Yalnızca zaman zaman soru-cevap şeklinde okuyucuyu aydınlatıyor olması, anlatımı biraz sekteye uğratmış. Uzun bir fantastik yolculuk olacağı için kendine ait bir evren yaratabilmiş başarılı bir ilk kitap.

Es difícil valorar el libro. Le pondría dos estrellas y media.
Hay momentos en los que me gusta a pesar de ser un poco naïf en la narración pero cuando quiere ser "adulto" contando cosas escabrosas o extrañas me desagrada.

Reseña completa en el blog
Dejando a un lado el cabreo monumental que tengo porque hayan partido cada libro de la maldita saga en dos, y tenga que leer 22 en vez de 11; debo decir que está bastante bien.
Al empezar a leerlo no las tenía todas conmigo, la forma de narrar me parecía demasiado artificial y entrecortada, los personajes un tanto cliché y la forma de tratar algunos temas, bueno, no me parecía la adecuada. Tengo la impresión de que parte de culpa la tiene la traducción, todo sea dicho. Aun con todo, ha ido mejorando notablemente a medida que avanzaba la historia. La pena es que, de los dos personajes que me han parecido más interesantes (y no, no son ni Richard ni Kahlan), los perdí muy pronto. Sé que al menos a uno lo recuperaré en breve.
Otro problema que le veo a esta saga, y que por ejemplo, no lo tiene Juego de Tronos, es que sabes que aunque a los dos protas se les presenten problemas, que puedan amenazar sus vidas, van a salir de todos y cada uno de ellos. Quiero decir, quedan 21 libros por delante. No hay peligro. Eso le quita parte de la gracia.
Y hablando de gracia, he de admitir que el libro tiene un par de puntos bastante graciosos. Lo cual me ha parecido estupendo.
Pero jo, aunque realmente son 3.5 estrellas (tenía expectativas más altas para esta saga), como dije más arriba, a medida que avanzaba la historia, esta mejoraba en todos los aspectos. Así que tengo grandes esperanzas, no solo para la segunda parte de este primer libro (AGH), sino para el resto de la saga. No deja de ser una serie de fantasía épica a la viaja usanza (sin elfos, gracias a Dios), no a lo Tolkien, sino más bien a lo Historias de Terramar de Ursula K. Le Guin o la trilogía de El Señor del Tiempo, de Louise Cooper. Y no hace falta añadir que me encanta, me pierde, me enamora.

Es el primero de 22 tomos, una saga de fantasía épica que me atrapó por poco más de un año y que aún recuerdo con mucho cariño.
Richard Cypher es un joven humilde que gracias a sus conocimientos de la zona ejerce como guía en los bosques cercanos, teniendo cuidado de no pasar el límite que lleva a tierras oscuras y llenas de misterios. Su padre fue asesinado recientemente y Richard quiere averiguar por qué la muerte de su padre, un comerciante también sencillo y buena persona. Es así como conoce a Kahlan, una joven hermosa que en su condición de Confesora (algo así como una sacerdotisa con ciertos poderes especiales) lleva a Richard a conocer un mundo donde nada es lo que parece, donde las personas que conocía y le eran cercanas le han estado cuidando y guardando secretos increíbles para que pueda cumplir su misión como Buscador de la Verdad para lo cual debe demostrar ser merecedor de la Espada de la Verdad, con la cual se enfrentará a nuevas experiencias para las que no sabía que estaba preparado ni destinado, todo en compañía de la bella Kanlan y a fin de salvar a la Tierra Central de las amenazas que ciernen sobre ella.
A quien le gusta la fantasía se la recomiendo, es todo un Universo encantador, con hermosos mensajes y reflexiones sobre la amistad, la valentía, la bondad, el amor y la lucha de todo esto contra los vicios de la vida.

Definitivamente ésta historia me ha atrapado. Es una típica trama, con un héroe, un mago sabio, un malvado bien malvado pero aún así Terry Goodking se las ha ingeniado para escribir este libro que no va a dejar indiferente a nadie. Es casi imposible despegarse de estas páginas, con un mundo en constante cambio, conociendo solo una fracción de un pueblo que se está desmoronando por las cosas oscuras que comienzan a invadirlos.
A pesar que es muy fácil ir adivinando que papel va a jugar cada personaje, son tantas cosas las que ocurren a lo largo del viaje que el protagonista debe emprender que compensa con creces lo que se nos hace predecible.
Muchas de las cosas que disfrute están relacionadas con la originalidad a la hora de crear ese mundo y los seres que lo habitan, como las criaturas que están al acecho pero también aquellas que están ayudando. Mención a parte corresponde a la gente de barro, todo lo que acontece desde su aparición fue mi parte favorita de la historia.
Si aún no le han dado una oportunidad a El libro de las sombras contadas, no esperen más y vayan a conocer este nuevo mundo.

De lo peor que he leido en mi vida. Historia trillada de un heroe destinado a salvar al mundo con unos malos malisimos que son puro estereotipo. Y con un fondo misogino que repele ya que todas las mujeres son castradoras del heroe: La compañera (vestida de blanco virginal claro) no puede tocarlo so pena de que este se enamore de el y pierda toda su independencia, las servidoras del malo de fin de pantalla son dominatrix que te controlan mediante collares electricos/bastones de dolor. Afortunadamente el heroe es un pajas y es capaz de resistirse al toque de su compañera y e incluso al dolor de las Dominatrixs gracias a su estoicismo Y buen hacer.
Recomendación: No os acerqueis so pena de perder vuestra cordura en el intento.

Gostei muito deste primeiro volume. Uma história com uma escrita leve e que nos envolve num relato fantástico. Richard um jovem que procura fazer justiça pela morte de seu pai. Na sua demanda conhece Kahlan e a sua luta contra poderes negros e misteriosos que iremos descobrir terem uma ligação a Richard.
Fisguei presa à leitura em algumas partes do livro, pois a autora é extremamente minuciosa nos detalhes e pormenores deste muno mágico!

Το πρώτο βιβλίο μας καλωσορίζει στον φανταστικό κόσμο του συγγραφέα όπως τον συνέλαβε ο ίδιος αλλά πάνω σε γνωστά κι αγαπημένα πρότυπα των:
D&D(1),J-RPG(2) και μιάς δυστοπίας με δικά της χαρακτηριστικά, δικό της χάρτη, ιδιαίτερους χαρακτήρες με ευθυγράμιση σε έναν κεντρικό σκοπό αλλά και πάμπολλες προβλέψιμες ή μη παρεκκλίσεις ως subplots που λέμε και εδώ στην Ευρώπη.
Υπάρχουν πολλά αμφιλεγόμενα στοιχεία-εμπόδια που, δυστυχώς, αποτελούν τροχοπέδη στο να αποκτήσει και να διαβάσει κάποιος αυτή τη σειρά όπως π.χ το ότι δεν έχει ολοκληρωθεί ακόμα(!) ή, επίσης, τα όσα βιβλία μεταφ��άστηκαν στη γλώσσα μας είναι ήδη όλα εξαντλημένα. Η εκκεντρικότητα & η αμφιλεγόμενη προσωπικότητα του συγγραφέα καθώς και όλα τα παραπάνω χαρακτηριστικά που ανέφερα (j-rpg,δυστοπία,D&D) λιγοστεύουν ακόμα το δείγμα των...προθύμων ενώ η χαμηλή βαθμολογία(7,7 για σειρά είναι λίγο) της αντίστοιχης σειράς Legend of the seeker που προβλήθηκε σε 44 επεισόδια (2 σεζόν, 2008-2010) θα αποθαρρύνει ακόμα περισσότερους.
Όμως αυτά τα "αρνητικά" δεν είναι παρά δήθεν για όσους από μας τόλμησαν την ενασχόληση και την δαπάνη του χρόνου μας. Είμαστε όλοι εμείς που μεγαλώσαμε παίζον��ας στις κονσόλες τα παιχνίδια της αυτής κατηγορίας, εμείς που ευχαριστηθήκαμε τη σειρά, εμείς που δεν κολλάμε να ψάξουμε τα 15 βιβλία (ή 30 στα ελληνικά αφού η anubis τα εκδίδει δίτομα αν και ως τώρα μας προσφέρει τα 12 ). Είμαστε όλοι εμείς που του δώσαμε το ζηλευτό 76% αποδοχής εδώ στο Goodreads με 4 & 5 αστέρια.
Καιρός να εστιάσω όμως από το εμείς στο εγώ: Τι μου άρεσε εμένα; τι με τραβάει να συνεχίσω;
Η πλοκή δεν είναι (για εμένα τουλάχιστον) εύκολα προβλέψιμη και οι χαρακτήρες δεν είναι ρηχοί, περιγράφεται αρκετά ο ψυχισμός τους.Αυτό το βάθος μπορεί να πλατιάζει και να αυξάνει τις σελίδες αλλά δεν είναι περιττό. Το να νιώσεις το χαρακτήρα, να νοιαστείς, να ενδιαφερθείς, αν όχι να ταυτιστείς μαζί του, είναι τόσο σημαντικό όσο και το να εξελιχθεί η πλοκή.
Μια παρέα εντελώς διαφορετικών μελών παλεύει να χτίσει ένα δέσιμο, μια ομοιογένεια που την καλεί ο κοινός σκοπός. Αυτό δεν σημαίνει ότι δεν θα ΄ρθουν στιγμές που θα έρθουν αντιμέτωποι, που θα είναι απόντες ή που θα χωρίσουν οι δρόμοι τους για διαφορετικές αποστολές αφηγηματικά παράλληλες. Προβλεψιμότητα δεν υπάρχει ούτε καν στην υποτιθέμενη σειριακή πορεία τους στον χάρτη που παρατίθεται φυσικά στην αρχή του βιβλίου όπως σε κάθε βιβλίο που σέβεται τον κόσμο του. D&D(1),J-RPG(2) και μιάς δυστοπίας με δικά της χαρακτηριστικά, δικό της χάρτη, ιδιαίτερους χαρακτήρες με ευθυγράμιση σε έναν κεντρικό σκοπό αλλά και πάμπολλες προβλέψιμες ή μη παρεκκλίσεις ως subplots που λέμε και εδώ στην Ευρώπη.
Υπάρχουν πολλά αμφιλεγόμενα στοιχεία-εμπόδια που, δυστυχώς, αποτελούν τροχοπέδη στο να αποκτήσει και να διαβάσει κάποιος αυτή τη σειρά όπως π.χ το ότι δεν έχει ολοκληρωθεί ακόμα(!) ή, επίσης, τα όσα βιβλία μεταφ��άστηκαν στη γλώσσα μας είναι ήδη όλα εξαντλημένα. Η εκκεντρικότητα & η αμφιλεγόμενη προσωπικότητα του συγγραφέα καθώς και όλα τα παραπάνω χαρακτηριστικά που ανέφερα (j-rpg,δυστοπία,D&D) λιγοστεύουν ακόμα το δείγμα των...προθύμων ενώ η χαμηλή βαθμολογία(7,7 για σειρά είναι λίγο) της αντίστοιχης σειράς Legend of the seeker που προβλήθηκε σε 44 επεισόδια (2 σεζόν, 2008-2010) θα αποθαρρύνει ακόμα περισσότερους.
Όμως αυτά τα "αρνητικά" δεν είναι παρά δήθεν για όσους από μας τόλμησαν την ενασχόληση και την δαπάνη του χρόνου μας. Είμαστε όλοι εμείς που μεγαλώσαμε παίζον��ας στις κονσόλες τα παιχνίδια της αυτής κατηγορίας, εμείς που ευχαριστηθήκαμε τη σειρά, εμείς που δεν κολλάμε να ψάξουμε τα 15 βιβλία (ή 30 στα ελληνικά αφού η anubis τα εκδίδει δίτομα αν και ως τώρα μας προσφέρει τα 12 ). Είμαστε όλοι εμείς που του δώσαμε το ζηλευτό 76% αποδοχής εδώ στο Goodreads με 4 & 5 αστέρια.
Καιρός να εστιάσω όμως από το εμείς στο εγώ: Τι μου άρεσε εμένα; τι με τραβάει να συνεχίσω;
Η πλοκή δεν είναι (για εμένα τουλάχιστον) εύκολα προβλέψιμη και οι χαρακτήρες δεν είναι ρηχοί, περιγράφεται αρκετά ο ψυχισμός τους.Αυτό το βάθος μπορεί να πλατιάζει και να αυξάνει τις σελίδες αλλά δεν είναι περιττό. Το να νιώσεις το χαρακτήρα, να νοιαστείς, να ενδιαφερθείς, αν όχι να ταυτιστείς μαζί του, είναι τόσο σημαντικό όσο και το να εξελιχθεί η πλοκή.
Μια παρέα εντελώς διαφορετικών μελών παλεύει να χτίσει ένα δέσιμο, μια ομοιογένεια που την καλεί ο κοινός σκοπός. Αυτό δεν σημαίνει ότι δεν θα ΄ρθουν στιγμές που θα έρθουν αντιμέτωποι, που θα είναι απόντες ή που θα χωρίσουν οι δρόμοι τους για διαφορετικές αποστολές αφηγηματικά παράλληλες. Προβλεψιμότητα δεν υπάρχει ούτε καν στην υποτιθέμενη σειριακή πορεία τους στον χάρτη που παρατίθεται φυσικά στην αρχή του βιβλίου όπως σε κάθε βιβλίο που σέβεται τον κόσμο του. Fantastik bir şeyler okuma isteği ile ne olduğuna pek bakmadan başladım okumaya. Pegasus, seriyi basarken her cildi iki kısma ayırarak basmış, bence bu çok gerekli bir hareket değildi, sadece maddi kazanç için yapılmış bir hamle gibi. Puntosu biraz daha küçük olsa tek cilt hayli hayli yeterdi.
Kitabın içeriğine bakacak olursak eğer, genel olarak diğer fantastik serilerden ayrılan pek bir tarafı olmadığını söyleyebilirim. Özgün bazı yanları olsa da klişeler kendine baya yer bulmuş. Yazar hikayeye ve karakterlere adapte olana kadar acemilik yaşıyor, bu da beni okurken diğer ciltleri okumam fikrine itmişti ister istemez. Kitaptaki sorunlardan biri gerçekçilikti; karakterler daha önce duymadığı-görmediği şeylere şahit oluyor ancak hayret duygusundan tamamen yoksunlar. Sanki her gün başlarına büyük olay gelirmiş gibi!

Empieza de manera muy lenta, teniendo en cuenta sus descripciones hiper detalladas destaca más este hecho, pero avanzada la mitad del libro adopta un ritmo muy bueno. El personaje de Kahlan es sin duda el estelar de esta historia. Lo recomiendo, aunque cuando lea la segunda parte podré valorar más en conjunto esta saga.

První půlka mě nechytila, možná jsem jen musela překousnout styl psaní, ale ten konec! Úžasná fantazie, nápady, různorodost. Nečekané zvraty, situace... Na druhou stranu se mi to místy zdálo lehce naivní, idealizované. Postavy se chovaly lehce strojeně... Ale stejně se mi to vážně líbilo. :)

A classificação correcta seria 3,5*. A história promete, gostei deste primeiro volume e fiquei com curiosidade de ler o seguinte. No entanto houve alguns momentos que achei mais parados e por isso não chega as 4*.

Το πρώτο από μια σειρά ΣΚΟΥΠΙΔΙΑ των οποίων η υποδοχή από το κοινό ήταν πολύ καλύτερη από ό,τι τους άξιζε. Για αρχή δεν είναι άσχημο, έχει την πλάκα του, δημιουργεί έναν ενδιαφέροντα νέο κόσμο. Δυστυχώς η συνέχεια δεν ήταν ανάλογη. Νόμιζα ότι ήμουν ο μόνος που το έβλεπε έτσι, μέχρι που έπεσα σε αυτή την κριτική (και το χάρηκα):

Even after a full year up here, Goodkind is still staying firmly planted at the number 3 spot, and I don't plan on moving him anytime soon, unless someone manages to top the level of drivel spewing forth from his pen. Though there are some new contenders for worst title, there are no real challengers just yet. Maybe next year (2013) will bring something new to the table.

Seriously people, if you think Goodkind is the Second Coming of Christ to the fantasy genre, you haven't read any real fantasy books yet. Don't ask me to add his name to any of the Best Book Lists, because I'm not going to.
Goodkind.Does.Not.Deserve.To.Be.Added.Because.He's.Not.Good.Enough.
I'll admit that Goodkind's first few novels were kind of entertaining in a sick sort of way, but the entertainment soon got lost behind the sheer awfulness of the man's writing. The idea was good, but the problem is that Goodkind lacked the actual writing skills to translate ideas to paper. He broke just about every 'don't do this when you're writing a novel' rule in this book. Heck, he probably even broke a few writing rules that haven't been invented yet!
NoGoodKind's books are a "College English 101: Fiction Class case study" for what not to do when writing a novel. If anything, the man could sell his books as part of a Creative Writing syllabus on "Bad Books NOT to Copy".
Richard Raul is THE MAN
Dude, the hero of The Sword of Truth is THE MAN. He's the Chuck Norris of the fantasy landscape, able to defeat every dark god without breaking a sweat. He's so full of altruistic goodness that he's got a halo, except when you disagree with him and he kills you. Hell, he even goes all Chuck Norris in Book 8 on a bunch of unarmed farmer pacificists because they don't have his vision of moral clarity by not believing in absolute good and evil. So he slaughters these weak cowards and is continually praised for this over the course of the novel by Goodkind. But wait, isn't killing people who disagree with you Fascism? Nooo, that couldn't be the case, since Goodkind is so enlightened.
But wait, there is more badness to come. Oh yea, he's so bad (and by baaad, I mean good) that he rips a man's spinal cord out with his bare freaking hands -- you can practically hear the Mortal Kombat "Finish Him" voiceover in the background. Hell Yea! If that's not manly and badassism, I don't know what is. A few other godlike traits: he's super intelligent on top of being a hunky male model, he's got a princess-lover who's so pure and beautiful that even Jesus would have a hard'on, and he bashes in the skull of a seven-year-old bratty kid.
To delve into more of the hero's badism, let's sum it up a bit (avoid this paragraph if you don't want to read spoilers) the entire series:
Farm boy finds a super sword and becomes the super Seeker of Truth, basically a badass dimwit with the big, big sword who goes around stabbing bad guys or simply any character who actually has the gall to disagree with his -- cough Goodkind's-- philosophy (which is in fact a badly written version of Ayn Rand's Fountainhead). But wait, there's more to big ol' teddy bear Richard. You see, he's really also a hidden prince too, and a pretty damn handsum one at that. No but wait, he's also a Wizard. Did I forget to mention that he's also a War Wizard on top of being a regular wizard which is basically a Wizard 2.0 with even deadlier magic than Wizard 1.0s? Oh, let's not forget about the part where he becomes KING ruler of an entire continent.
Did I miss anything? Oh yes, I forgot: Richard also has a harem of attractive women who want to rip his clothes off, and rape him in a series of bad S&M scenes. Can't forget the other character: Kahland Amnell, Richards love interest princess and Mary Sue extraordinaire. Forgetting anything else? Opps one more: one of the SOT villains is an evil chicken. Yeaaaaa.....
Richard Rauhl is pretty much the fantasy version of Goku from Dragon Ball Z -- always just one step away from powering up to some new super ability to save the day. The only difference: replace the stupid endless posturing of the characters with endless plot-destroying Randism pontificating by Richard. I'd like to say it's a more intelligent series than an anime made for kids, but I dont' think I can even give the series that sort of credit.
Now let's get to the badly written sex and Goodkind's treatment of women in the books.
Goodkind has a disturbing fascination with the domination and rape of women. I mean you have to wonder about the guy when pretty much every page involves some sadistic torture and rape of yet another innocent and lovely woman. Man, we get it guy: lovely women need to be humiliated over and over in as many different ways as possible. Now stop writing about the same damn thing for 10,000 pages! I'm beginning to suspect that John Norman from the Gor series helped ghostwrite the SOT novels or maybe Goodkind gets a kick out of reading Gor. Either way, enough of your boy fantasies please!
Prose, Like, Actually Counts Dude
Now if only the public could be stabbed with that same Sword of Truth that Richard Rhaul carries around, the truth of how bad this series really is would be revealed to the world. The writing itself is absolutely hideous amateurishly written prose that will give you eyebleeds. The interesting world-building hinted at in the first novel was about the only redeeming quality of the entire series but this one small bit of potential soon gets drowned in the badlly written prose, stupid cardboard characters (with some of them bordering on ridiculous), and the dirty S&M rape scenes oh-so-generously sprinkled around every few pages.
Goodkind has really mastered the literary trick of TELLING his reader, not SHOWING them. Did I mention that the writing quality is bad, like atrociously bad with -ly adverbs thrown in before practically every single verb, horrible grammar, and a plot so full of holes that it sinks to the bottom of the quality barrel?
We are not in your ff'in Church, Goodkind
But by far the worst literary crime is Goodkind's penchant for pausing the story while he pontificates and pontificates and pontificates about the nature of good and evil through his characters. I mean, it gets absolutely ridiculous in the later books. The early books actually have the semblance of a plot and characters, but by the 6th book, something starts to go seriously wrong with the story threads, and Goodkind decides he's going to write his own version of The Fountainhead starring Richard, Kahland, and evil Emperor dude who wants to kill the world. The 8th book (The Naked Empire) was by far the worst offender, with a significant portion of the book given to Goodkind's bad philosophizing there were literally pages end on end of bad philosophy spewing from the mouth of Goodkind's hero. At one point I think I skipped something like 30 pages of Richard pontificating and the plot or story didn't miss a single beat.
If you want to read Goodkind, you can save yourself a lot of pain and just skip straight to the source: read Ann Rynd's Fountainhead, the book that inspired the Sword of Truth series.
Now, I wouldn't toss Goodkind on this list only because of A Wizard's First Rule. No, it took a string of absolute trash to land him on the worst fantasy book list. His recent book titles can be used as a euphemism for crap, puke and other less-than-wholesome words.
Goodkind's book quality goes like this:
'first book -- readable with some interesting world-building, but terrible prose
'books 2 - 3 -- less readable
'books 4 - 6 -- even less readable and preachy
'books 7 - 9 -- oh my god, my eyes are bleeding and I'm going deaf from all the bad Fountainhead preaching
'books 10 - 12 -- thank god the series is done. Oh but wait, he's signed up for MORE novels.
'Sword of Truth Tie Ins -- doesn't even qualify as a novel
I now hear that Goodkind has decided to embrace the self-publishing movement and inflict even more books on the public, this time with even less editorial control, since he's now going to be the author, editor, and publisher. God save us from the horror of it all!
I fully expect putting Goodkind in this section will rile up some of his fans (and feel free to express yourself in the comment section), but before posting anything nasty or libeling my character and tastes, please read the top 5 books on my Top 25 Best Fantasy Book list, THEN come and tell me why NoGoodkind should be taken off this list.

I mean, it gets absolutely ridiculous in the later books. The early books actually have the semblance of a plot and characters, but by the 6th book, something starts to go seriously wrong with the story threads, and Goodkind decides he's going to write his own version of The Fountainhead starring Richard, Kahland, and evil Emperor dude who wants to kill the world. The 8th book (The Naked Empire) was by far the worst offender, with a significant portion of the book given to Goodkind's bad philosophizing there were literally pages end on end of bad philosophy spewing from the mouth of Goodkind's hero. At one point I think I skipped something like 30 pages of Richard pontificating and the plot or story didn't miss a single beat.
If you want to read Goodkind, you can save yourself a lot of pain and just skip straight to the source: read Ann Rynd's Fountainhead, the book that inspired the Sword of Truth series.
Now, I wouldn't toss Goodkind on this list only because of A Wizard's First Rule. No, it took a string of absolute trash to land him on the worst fantasy book list. His recent book titles can be used as a euphemism for crap, puke and other less-than-wholesome words.
Goodkind's book quality goes like this:
'first book -- readable with some interesting world-building, but terrible prose
'books 2 - 3 -- less readable
'books 4 - 6 -- even less readable and preachy
'books 7 - 9 -- oh my god, my eyes are bleeding and I'm going deaf from all the bad Fountainhead preaching
'books 10 - 12 -- thank god the series is done. Oh but wait, he's signed up for MORE novels.
'Sword of Truth Tie Ins -- doesn't even qualify as a novel
I now hear that Goodkind has decided to embrace the self-publishing movement and inflict even more books on the public, this time with even less editorial control, since he's now going to be the author, editor, and publisher. God save us from the horror of it all!
I fully expect putting Goodkind in this section will rile up some of his fans (and feel free to express yourself in the comment section), but before posting anything nasty or libeling my character and tastes, please read the top 5 books on my Top 25 Best Fantasy Book list, THEN come and tell me why NoGoodkind should be taken off this list.

The primary reason I had for reading this book was because I had encountered some scathing opinions both on this series and its author. I came into this thinking that I would not like the book at all, that it would be cliché and all that stuff. It wasn't that I was looking to hate-read or something, but rather that I wanted to see if it was as bad as some people say or as good as some others say. I do have to note that I read this in Swedish, which means I may have a different experience of the writing (grammatics, style, etc) than someone who has read it in its original language. I do have some thoughts on the writing, but it's more about the characters, plot, descriptions and so.
Note about the Swedish translation: for some reason they changed Richard to Rickard and Michael to Mikael, which are the Swedish versions, but barely any other names were translated besides place names. It was really weird, and I'm not sure I liked that choice the translator made.

Overall, not the worst book I've read. I will probably read the second book, because I'm a bit curious to see where it goes and if I'll like that one more now that the pacing should hopefully pick up. Also I love Kahlan so I'll read it for her.

Kurgu kitaplarda, özellikle fantastik serilerde, öykü zaman içinde genişleyip olgunlaşabilir. Bu yüzden okurken sabırlı olmak ve hikâyeye zaman tanımak gerektiğine inanırım. Ancak, bunun için ön koşul, kitabın gerçekten okumaya değer olmasıdır. Dilin gücü, anlatımın akıcılığı ve kurulan evrenin inandırıcılığı, genellikle beni içşne çeken ve kitabı okumaya ikna eden temel unsurlar. Çünkü dil yeterince iyiyse, hikâyenin çarpıcı bir hâle ne zaman geleceği bazen o kadar da önemli değildir.
Ne yazık ki bu kitapta bunların hiçbiri yoktu. Yazar ve seri bana hiç umut vadetmedi ve yarım bırakılmış bir kitap olarak kaldı.

Opinião
: É sempre difícil classificar uma obra que não se encontra no seu todo. Dado o volume de páginas do original primeiro livro da série A Espada da Verdade, a Porto Editora optou por dividi-lo em dois. Sinceramente compreendo a opção e, enquanto leitora, se já achei este livro grande e pesado, tê-lo por inteiro seria muito pior tornando, provavelmente, a leitura mais morosa. No entanto, existe o reverso da medalha que, principalmente num primeiro volume onde nos é apresentado o universo para que somos transportados, faz com que saiba a pouco.
O grande ponto forte deste livro, e por isso a minha ideia de ser para os mais jovens, para uma faixa etária onde a formação é mais forte, é a grande exploração que existe dos personagens enquanto pessoas, colocando à prova os seus verdadeiros valores, motivações e a sua "pureza" de espírito, revelando as suas verdadeiras intenções por trás das acções. Existe um mal, que envolve magia, que ameaça destruir tudo e todos, e existe um herói que juntamente com outros companheiros - uma Confessora, um Feiticeiro e um Guardião - parte da sua zona de conforto para o poder destruir. É um teste e um confronto às verdadeiras crenças, força de vontade e capacidade de sacrifício. Transpor todos estes valores para a vida real é completamente automático.
Em relação ao mundo fantástico que nos é apresentado, este encontra-se dividido em três zonas, separadas por fronteiras erguidas através da magia, em que a Zona Ocidental, onde Richard - o seeker - vive, é suposta não conter nenhuma magia. O problema é que começam a aparecer criaturas estranhas e cedo este descobre que as fronteiras estão prestes a desaparecerem, tornando ainda mais fácil o mal varrer tudo por onde passar. É um enredo muito rico em diversidade de seres e personalidades, que explora então essa dicotomia do ser e do parecer, dos segredos por revelar, mas acima de tudo de haver a vontade de se fazer justiça.
O primeiro sentimento que me assalta no final desta obra é que se o tivesse lido há dez anos, tinha conseguido ligar-me muito mais à estória e ao enredo. Não sei se é das minhas leituras, entretanto, terem diversificado para outros campos, mas enquanto há uns anos eu ficava fascinada com todo este worldbuilding e toda esta demanda na luta pela justiça, hoje em dia isso já não me basta. Preciso de personagens mais desenvolvidas, sentimentos mais profundos, um enredo, mesmo que fantástico, mais forte. Não que a esta primeira metade d'A Primeira Regra dos Feiticeiros lhe falte isso tudo, a minha sensação é que o público-alvo talvez seja mais jovem ou para alguém que gosta de contextos mais simples.
A linguagem é muito fácil, acessível a qualquer faixa etária, fluida e com um ritmo de acção agradável. A narrativa baseia-se, maioritariamente, em diálogos, o que me agrada imenso, tendo na mesma uma boa dose de descrição para que possamos visualizar tudo à nossa volta. Gostei imenso do feiticeiro, uma das minhas personagens preferidas, e passadas cem páginas dei conta que este é o livro que deu origem à série Legend of The Seeker da ABC Studios. Graças a esta associação, foram vários os momentos que me fizeram rir ao associar os personagens aos actores. Foi uma leitura leve, mesmo com os seus momentos mais pesados e mais obscuros, que aconselho facilmente a quem aprecie este tipo de tramas.

It's an entertaining and fun book. It's full of clichés and before chapter 3 you already know how the story will end, the roles of each character and how the two male and female characters who meet in the first chapter of the first book will end up. It's a classic story of the hero's journey, but it's so predictable that you don't need to read 22 books to know that the protagonists will have their happy ending, married and in love in a fantastic happy family. That's why I'm not going to continue with the series, but I have to say that I enjoyed the first book.
The whole story is tremendously convenient for the main character. We have our Merlin, our Arthur, and our Excalibur. Richard is who he is because he is the protagonist, and he is exactly as the situation requires. He is not the best main character, but he does his job; he is the chosen hero, and he is a hero because he has been chosen. He is the hero who will save humanity from the terrible evil that is the villain, who is a villain because the author has chosen him as such. The story does not really have a complex concept; the characters do not flow normally because they all have a role designated by fate, that is, the author. One thing that is strange to me is that, despite the series itself being really long, the story, at least in this book, moves very quickly and the author does not take his time developing the main plot; in the first chapter, the girl and the boy meet and it is already known that they will end up together, in the third chapter it is already known without the need to be revealed -thing that is revealed in other chapters- that the protagonist is the chosen one who will save everyone and that the great wizard is the protagonist's elderly friend, etc. There aren't really many surprises.
Despite all this, the book delivers what it offers: the hero's journey. The story of Arthur but in another world and with different names. A story that is not bad, but is not the best.
The characters aren't really that complex: the good ones are super hyper ultra good and the villains are very very bad baddies. There's no grey in them at all, and the villain had the potential to be that grey amazing villain, but this is a story of white or black, so grey can't exist.

Leí este libro (y parte de la saga) en mi adolescencia, cuando tenía unos 13-14 años y lo recuerdo con mucho cariño. Lo he vuelto a releer ahora y no ha cambiado nada de cómo lo recordaba. Me sigue gustando mucho la historia de Richard y Kahlan.
En este libro conocemos a los dos protagonistas que nos acompañarán en esta interminable saga de libros. Richard es el Buscador de la Verdad y por ello se le otorga la Espada de la Verdad, por lo que deberá emprender un viaje para detener a Rahl el Oscuro, quién intenta hacerse con las Cajas del Destino y asesinar a Kahlan, nuestra protagonista femenina, de la que Richard no tarda en enamorarse.
Este primer libro es bastante introductorio al universo, los personajes y demás, pero los misterios que se van abordando te hacen mantener el hilo. A mí personalmente esta saga me encanta. Seguiré reseñando los siguientes en base a mis relecturas.

Rhal is pretty much the iconography of evilness, the mystery of Kahlan is intriguing, the wizards are wizardy and the magic consistent, pretty much a fun read.
Rhal es malo malo, el misterio de Kahlan es misterioso, los magos hacen cosas de magos, la magia tiene sentido, es un poco oscuro por partes y te da asquito, pero ni modo, la historia es así. Buen libro, me gustó.
