Karin is a vampire with a twist--she experiences intense bleeding from her nose once a month--so instead of stealing blood from humans, she gives her blood to them and if done properly, the benefits are positive to both.
Yuna Kagesaki (影崎 由那 Kagesaki Yuna ) is a manga artist, born on March 3, 1973 , best known for being the author of the manga Chibi Vampire. Her work has been published under four different names: Yuna Kagesaki (影崎 由那 Kagesaki Yuna) (professionally published non-pornographic comics, except for Sakura no Ichiban), Yuna Kagezaki (影崎 由那 Kagezaki Yuna?) (same characters but different readings; only in Taishō Komachi Jikenchō Sakura no Ichiban!) Yūna Kagesaki (影崎 夕那 Kagesaki Yūna) (spelled with different kanji) when drawing CG's for PC games, and Yuta Kageyama (影山 由多 Kageyama Yuta) when drawing hentai manga or HCG's for PC games. Her real name is presumedly Keya, as she calls herself in the bonus comic strips at the end of volume 3 of her work Hekikai no AiON. In middle school she was a member of the brass band.
Three cheers for Kenta’s mom getting that disgusting hotel shut down and befriending/rescuing Harumi. That subplot seemed kinda out of place in a funny manga because it was certainly not funny, but it was handled nicely. That sort of thing happens in real life and girls don’t always have a kind adult to step in like Kenta’s mom did for Harumi.
Also Anju’s creepy doll Boogie had me cracking up. That chapter was hilarious.
I wouldn’t give Chibi Vampire to a little kid for obvious reasons (nothing is shown but you know darn well what is going on in that hotel, and Anju’s doll could be scary to little kids), but I definitely recommend it to older girls!
I'm still very much enjoying this series but this was probably more filler than the last 2 books. Hopefully that means the next book will be fantastic because we have the extra stuff out of the way.
We got to follow Kenta's mom around the LOVE HOTEL in this volume. As she folds sheets, drags an old school girl uniform out of the trash, and befriends a teenage run-away prostitute.
We also followed Anju to school where she found out where Boogy, her lost doll, had gone off to. OH! And there is a fantastic story that revolves around Boogy. I really enjoyed that. It was very impressive and original. It actually would make for an awesome book!
Karin is still trying to stay away from Kenta but his mom is starting to loose her mojo so it might be time to do the bite bite again. BUt oh noes! Ren is actually digging the back to her old self mom and is thinking about bite biting her just for himself.
OH WHAT WILL THEY DO!
I was pleased that there was more Ren action in this book and even though he was still close to ANJU it didn't give me that FORBIDDEN SPIDEY SENSE i had in the last volume.
THe problems I had with this book is well.. Karin's boobs have gotten bigger. Like what the duce happened?!! They look engourged and stuff!! I'm hoping the pop those sweater puppies in the next volume but I've seen the cover and I actually think they might even be BIGGHER! AHHS!
Also, there is some side boob drawing action. No nipplage but just be warned if you know... you have little ones reading it.
There's also a tad bit of cussing that seemed to be out of place in my opinion...but hey... I guess that's trendy.
All in all !! Nosebleeds are great and creepy dolls with knives are even better!
We have an interesting little side story involving Usui's mom, we discover the truth of Anju's creepy doll Boogie, Kiran's has to find a way to keep her older brother Ren from biting Osui's mom, and we discover that Kiran's family is still trying to figure out how exactly Karin ends up as a reverse vampire.
The first half of the volume revolves around the teenage girl Karin bit in volume 2, we discover that this girl has ran away from home and is working as a prostitute at the love hotel Fumio, Usui's mom works at. For the most part this just gives Ren a good reason to bump into Fumio and decide that he is going to go after her. But it gives us a chance to get to know Fumio a little better.
The side story with Anju and her doll is probably the best part of this volume though. Anju loses the creepy thing in volume two and discovers that a classmate has stolen it. The classmate refuses to give it back, which oddly doesn't seem to concern Anju too much. We find out why later that evening, which I knew it was creepy, but I didn't think Kagesaki was going to take it that far! I also now need to know the rest of her doll's stories! Kagesaki could have probably done an entire spin off series just about Anju's creepy doll collection!
Kiran is mostly preoccupied with figuring out how to bite Fumio before her brother gets to it in this volume. I suppose I am a bit on the fence about this particular storyline. I understand why Kiran wouldn't want her brother to bite her but at the same time if the effect is the same then I'm not sure that Usui would actually care who bit her.
Finally, we have a very brief discussion about Kiran's "condition". Her parents seem to be researching older family histories and historical documents to find out if there is a precedent for her condition. To be honest, Karin has a Marilyn Munster (Here's a link for those who do not know what The Munsters is) feel to her at this point which I am enjoying for sure, however, I am just as curious as her family is to find out what exactly she is. The fangs are the only vampire trait she has going for her, so she doesn't feel like a vampire but any stretch of the imagination.
I sadly only have one more volume before I'm going to have to go buy the next few in the series so I am hoping volume four doesn't end on a cliffhanger!
One thing that gets me through this series is knowing that Usui's mother loves him and Karin and every child that she meets so much that she would do anything for them and that's very wonderful of her.
I never looked at the very fine print of this when I was younger or thought about a lot of what was said in this series but as an adult, I will personally protect everyone from Karin's brother, the pedophile. I hated him when I was a kid because I was supposed to hate the big brother character and now I hate him because he's 19 and sleeps with 13-year-old girls.
Aside from Ren, Anju is my favorite because she just casually hoards serial killers in her room and scolds them like children when they misbehave. She also decides that she wants to be part of things but also stays away from it all so she can have that juicy gossip. Love her.
Volume 4 is when things start to really build-up into the vampire lore I believe, but it's been ages since I read this series and I did not properly read it. Hoping that I get through all the volumes this year!
As we continue our third volume, Kenta helps Karin study for her school make up exams, and now with no more secrets between them and him knowing she’s a vampire and promising the Marker family he’ll keep an eye out for her during the daylight hours, the two start becoming closer. Could this be the start of a great friendship or possibly something more?
But when Maki catches sight of them and asks if they are going out, Karin protests! She needs time, especially when she feels like she's starting to overcome her blood issues around Kenta. But a new problem is about to surface when Karin’s older brother Ren appears to set his sights on Kenta’s mother as he is drawn to stress. However, with Kenta and her’s growing friendship, Karin is determined to stop had brother from crossing that line.
As with the last two volumes, they study moves at a wonderful pace. Lots of great humor and it’s a perfect autumn read.
I loved this volume! It actually felt cohesively put together and not episodic like some volumes have a tendency to do in addition even the bonus story that's in here is related to the series. Though there were repeated panels, it was still a fun time that I was able to inhale in one sitting. As far as being child friendly I would say I wouldn't take your chance just because with some of the content though tame you may get some not great questions about things (plus there was a scene that was in here that was horror movie like that scared even me.) Because of these points I have to give it a 4.5 out of 5 stars.
I haven't read these in ages. I never had the first two volumes, so I always start with the third one. The stories (or chapters?) in this one aren't so interesting, apart from the doll story, but some parts are good, and I know it gets better as the story goes on. And I feel so nostalgic. I read these for the first time 12 years ago, and sure they're not that good, but they are still entertaining.
Kenta's mom got a job cleaning at a love hotel. Ren's on the prowl after her. His mom also meets a runaway at the hotel who's a prostitute. Karin gets a new job wearing a tight uniform that she's unhappy about, but she's able to bring food to Kenta and his mom over the summer because of her new job.
Actually read this on line. Enjoying this story, and wondering if Karin's attraction to Kenta's blood will extend to a romantic attraction. I think it's there, but they both refuse to acknowledge anything. Will Kenta's mother be re-bitten by Karin before her brother Ren gets to her? Must keep reading to find out!
There's a cute side-story in this one where we learn the secret of Anju's doll which I rather liked. Kenta's mother helps a teen runaway prostitute staying at the love hotel where she cleans. The rest is more of the main Karin/Kenta relationship arc. Karin gets a second job.
The asides and side characters are great. Overall, a sweet, charming reverse vampire rom com.
Creepy dolls!! Bad situations, some resolution, sexual situations that are uncomfortable. Some of the pages in this volume and the previous one seem out of order, the story is choppy. I'm not sure what happened in publication.
I have watched the anime and enjoyed it very much, so the differences between the manga and anime exotically in this book really caught my attention. My heart really good out for Fumio Usui.
Still loving. It makes me laugh still which is so nice because I worried I wouldn't like it as much since it has been 10+ years. But nope still fantastic <3
Official Synopsis: As Kenta helps Karin study for her school exam, the two start becoming closer. But when Maki catches sight of them and asks if they are going out, Karin protests! She needs time, especially when she feels like she's starting to overcome her blood issues around Kenta. But a new problem is about to surface...and the odor is enough to make a vampire run to daylight!
Genres: Horror, Comedy, Vampires, & Romance Book Style: Manga (Japanese Comics - Read Right to Left)
I decided to read Chibi Vampire Story & Art By Yuna Kagesaki Vol.3 because I already read the first 2 volumes and loved it and I wanted to see what will happen next. Once I started reading fell in love with this story of a not so normal vampire! This follows right where the last book felt off. Kenta is now helping Karin with her daytime life and keeping her secret while Karin try's her best to keep Kenta happy from misfortune which seems to be working. On to the mini sub plot that is the main plot in the 3rd volume; Kenta's mother named Fumio Usui is working at a "Love Hotel" as a janitor when she stumbles upon a girl named Harumi who ran away from home and now is working as a prostitute but she's just a high school girl. This when Fumio comes up with a plan to shut down this shady hotel and to bring Harumi back home from messing up her life even if it means losing her job, that's what I call a powerful mom! Later Karin and Kenta's friends and family think their dating each other because they're spending so much time together but it's not the case yet. Then once Fumio's plan works she's sad again without a job but thankful for helping that poor girl and that's when we find out that Karin's brother Ren want's her blood because it's no longer just misfortunate blood it's now anxiety mixed with stress which he loves but know Karin must get to Fumio before he does. Also Anju's dolls aren't only just creepy they also have spirits inside of them who are murders and one get's let out! My favorite characters so far are Karin, Kenta, Anju, and Ren because I really like the relationship that's starting between Karin and Kenta; maybe they might end up as a couple later in the series then for Anju and Ren because I really like the brother and sister dynamic between them and how both try to help their sister Karin with vampire stuff she might not understand. My favorite parts of this story are when Anju's doll Boogie goes missing but the girl from Anju's school who took him home get's an unwanted killer guest then Anju comes to the girls house to get her doll back before people get murdered and erased the girl's memory from this incident and when Karin and Kenta are getting a long without bloody nose which is very cute! I love the art style because it's clear to see, cute and creepy at the same time and it fits the story very well. I can't wait to read Chibi Vampire Story & Art By Yuna Kagesaki Vol.4 because I can't wait to see how Karin and Kenta will help each other out and what other situations they get into. I would recommend this book to vampire fans or people who love horror comedies!
Kenta knows that Karin is a vampire! He's pledged to keep her secret...not that he really had a choice. It decreases some of the awkwardness between them. Unfortunately, the awkwardness quickly comes back when people start speculating that they're dating.
But let's forget about Kenta and Karin. They're the least interesting part of this volume. There are two big subplots in volume 3. Both are really strange - continuing with a theme.
Subplot one: Kenta's mother is a maid at a Love Hotel (hourly rate hotels that are quite common in Japan). She finds Miharu, a high school girl, living there as a prostitute. Kenta's mom tries to convince Miharu to return home to her father and stepmother or at least to help her out.
Subplot two: Anju left her talking doll Boogie in a park when she rescued Karin. One of her classmates picked it up and refused to return it. Turns out karma is on Anju's side. Boogie-kun comes to life and attacks the little girl's mother with a knife. Then he goes after the little girl because she refused to give him back to Anju. Anju gets there just in time to keep Boogie from killing her classmate. Boogie-kun the doll is the embodiment of the ghost of a guy who killed 13 people with a kitchen knife. See what I mean about weird and creepy? Yet oddly intriguing.
One thing (well, one of numerous things) that irritated me about this volume was that Karin's chest looked huge. It wasn't a focus of the previous volumes. It's hugely disproportionate to the rest of her body. Looks more silly than sexy.
well.. i've read this book last week and i really do like this book.. i find it interseting because of the story line. Although the title still puzzles me it's a book i would recomend to people who are interested in vampires and anime...in this book i foun it funny that the main character Karin gets some sort blood spike and the blood that she has comes out of her teeth and when she covers her mouth it looks like she had a bloody nose..hehehe poor thing. I still can't believe that her brother wants the guy that she like,Kenta. That would be kinda akward if Karin's brother,Rin, turned out to be gay because he's always taking high school chicks to a hotel that he normaly goes to and then when he comes out of the hotel the chick isn't with him soo i think that it would be kinda akward... other than that it's really interesting and some other word i just can't think of it right now soo yeah. But anyways i give this book thumbs up.
Let's interview the characters of Chibi Vampire, nee? Kya~
Me: So tell me about this Volume? Karin: Well... Henry(Karin's father): My daughter is dating Usui-Kun! *sobs* Me: Isn't that great? Karin: *blushes* Usui-kun: No we are not! Fumio(Usui-kun's mother): You look cute together! Me: Okay. That's akward!
Me: Ren-San! I really like you~ Ren: Thank you, but you're not my type. *grins* Me: I understand. *sighs* Anju: Onii-sama you are weird. Me: Well, at least the Love Hotel isn't available for him anymore. *laughs* Ren: *stares at me* Anju: *stares at me* Me: THIS IS SO AWKWARD!
In Volume 3, Usui-kun helps Karin study for her makeup exams, and then they both pick up a second job over the summer break. Kenta's mom, Fumio-san, is working as a maid at the love hotel down the street, where Ren frequents with his ladies. After Fumio runs into a high school girl, Harumi, who works at the love hotel, she uncovers the secret of the hotel and becomes determined to help Harumi return home to her family. Karin, meanwhile, is increasingly stressed out over Ren's determination to bite Fumio -- since for Ren, biting someone is never that simple. Ren is so embarrassing.
I was slightly confused about some events, but I think I got the overall picture. I am so glad Miharu went home!! Although poor Ren, now he needs to find a new Love Hotel, Haha... :P I liked the little side story with Anju and Boogie-kun, although it really freaked me out!! I hope Karin can get to Kenta's mom before Ren does!!
This one is mostly filler it seems which is fine but I didn't really care about these particular filler stories. Also no, I think it was this vol I noticed the fan service. Like Karin's boobs are way more in your face in this volume and it's like why? I think I'll be getting rid of this series when I get through what I have.
