Deidre Aponte is a beautiful, young, and sexy FBI Special Agent assigned to the Washington, D.C. field office. Between juggling a sordid affair with her deceased father's best friend (who also happens to be her boss) and dealing with an alcoholic mother, Deidre's life seemed like it couldn't get any more chaotic.
That changes when the daughter of New York Senator Daniel Reeves is kidnapped. Special Agent Aponte is assigned to go undercover into the seedy underworld of New York City. She becomes associated with three of the city’s most notorious female drug dealers, Chastity Smith, Leticia Ruiz, and Tori Banks. They call themselves the F.A.B.
Undercover and alone, Special Agent Aponte finds her strong allegiance to the Bureau and the United States Government fading fast. Aponte will have to pull out all the stops to prevent herself from getting in too deep. With the lines between good and evil becoming blurred, she finds herself uncovering facts that thrust her into a race to save her own life. She soon finds out that she, and all the members of the F.A.B, may be bound by tragedy and brought together by fate.
FBI Agent Deidre Aponte has been assigned to go undercover into NY's notorious F.A.B organization to investigate the kidnapping of a NY Senator's daughter. The new assignment comes as a welcome distraction especially since the affair Deidre's having with her supervisor is uncovered by his wife. But infiltrating the F.A.B not only proves to be challenging but it places Deidre in a situation where her loyalty to the bureau will be challenged as well. Things are not what they seem within the F.A.B nor within Deidre's own department, so when Deidre's loyalty is tested she'll be placed in harm's way no matter which side she chooses.
With Hush author Amaleka McCall skillfully gives readers mystery and suspense all wrapped up neatly in an urban tale. The mystery unfolds as layer upon layer of deceit is uncovered regarding the, F.A.B, the NY Senator and the FBI. The suspense is whether Deidre will be able to figure out the deceit in time to save the Senator's daughter, her career or even herself. While the urban tale encompasses the F.A.B organization and how a multi-million dollar drug ring is successfully being operated by three women.
Taking a portion from Mrs. McCall's opening quote, "Everyone has a story to tell." However not all authors are as deft at telling them as Mrs. McCall has proven herself to be!
FBI Special Agent Deidre Aponte joined the bureau in order to uncover the details surrounding her father's suspicious suicide. Even as a child, she never believed her father would willingly leave her and her mother.
Special Agent- in- Charge, Ricky Blum, has always been right by Deidre's side taking the place of her father. Soon their closeness becomes more complicated for everyone.
Unbeknownst to Deidre, a career building case is placed in her hands. While Deidre relishes in the possibilities that could come from such a case, so much just isn't adding up. Unable to place all of the missing pieces, Aponte obediently jumps right in and quickly finds herself delving deeper and deeper undercover in order to connect with F.A.B, a notorious all girl team with NYC on lock.
When friendship, love and acceptance start to smear Aponte's eyes, she soon finds herself stuck between who or what she really is. Is she a federal agent or a drug dealer? HUSH written by Amaleka McCall is definitely certified as a book worthy of my recommendation. Gun play, bloodshed and larceny, all the essential elements necessary for an official page turner!
The book was a difficult start. I checked reviews before I went further and most sites provided four and five stars so based on a couple of comments that the book got better, I decided to continue. It was really an interesting concept and I suppose the book paralleled a lot of the drama found in reality shows on American tv. It also explicitly described some of the gore that millennials and Gen x-ers seem to find funny.
By page 190 of the 328-page novel, I had figured whodunit and how the players were aligned although I did spend some effort identifying editorial mishaps such as when DeeDee "excited" the vehicle, or talking aloud about sequences that made little sense. Unnecessary screaming scenes that required silence, etc. I would be encouraged to read another title by this author if just to see if the writing, editing, and sequencing has improved and if I can borrow from my local library.
I really wanna give this book more than 5 stars if I could (but I can't :/). It became one of my favorite books I've read this year. I loved the characters and there were so many plot twists and unexpecting things happening. I hated Deidre's relationship with Rick became after her father died. One thing I loved about the book was the FAB clique. Their friendship was like the women in the movie "Set it off". I recommend this book to people if you love suspense and crime storylines. Anyways get this book, you will not be disappointed.
FBI Agent Deidre Aponte has just been handed a career-making case - find the kidnapped daughter of a U.S. Senator. In order to do this, she must infiltrate the F.A.B., a ruthless female trio of drug dealers. To capture the enemy, Deidre must become one of them. But the higher she rises in the organization, the deeper she gets. When the lines between what is right and what is wrong quickly become blurred, is Deidre in too deep?
Amaleka McCall's sophomore novel, "Hush," was a welcome return. Different than her previous novel, she offers a mystery/thriller with an edge of street. "Hush" was a quick and entertaining read. However, I would have preferred if more had come as a shock or surprise. The author gave way too many clues so the twists, turns and revelations were expected, making the novel predictable and thwarting its full potential. I look forward to Amaleka's next release.
To Urban Books, please find an editor that knows the rules for punctuation in connection with quotation marks. There were repeated occurrences of periods and commas AFTER a closing quotation mark. (Example: "Volume I: "The Call".) This company has been in business too long not to have something that simple right.
First time reading anything by this author and I have to say she did a great job with keep her readers on there toes the whole way though.
Deidre is a FBI agent set to do a undercover job by going to get information about drug dealers that go by the name F.A.B run by Chazz, T-bay and Loca.

Well Deidre is undercover she gets very attached to Chazz's bother RJ and they become very close.
Well she is undercover so much details and drama accure with everyone. Deidre found out things she never thought would have ever happen.
This book keeps you wanting more. Suspence, drama, the whole nine yards.
I liked this book I give a thumbs up to the author for doing her thang.
I like the fact that this book can be listed in many different genre such as urban fiction, mystery, suspense... The F.A.B Chick are about there hustle, but we all know that hustles are not good hustles. This novel has many unexpected twist in the story line. Deidre a undercover agent in a corrupt government this sets the tone for this twisted tale of murder, mystery-suspense novel. You will not be disappointed in this read.
Interesting twist on this book. Everyone was betraying everyone. Ricky was so dirty that no one was sorry that he got what he deserved in the end. It was sad that Deidre had to die in the end. She was wrong for having an affair with Ricky. But then again that was apart of his whole entire set up.
Not bad for an Urban Streets book. Normally I am beating myself in the head and wondering why I even picked up the book when I saw there was an urban logo on it. However this one was pretty well edited except a few minor scattered errors and I think I would actually check out another book, if by the same author, in the future.
Not bad little quick read. Held my interest. Believe the author is Black, the characters certainly are. Which gave a different look than what I usually read. Fast paced and desciptive sex!
I absolutely loved this book! It was jaw dropping to see the lengths that the FBI will go to, in order to catch a criminal. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a good read.
