This study examines in detail the 18 doctrines outlined in the Baptist Faith and Message statement. Combining biblical insight with historical and contemporary illustrations, the authors help you understand essential Baptist beliefs, identify the biblical foundation for these beliefs, and apply the beliefs to your Christian walk. Study provides biblical commentary from three noteworthy SBC Charles S. (Chuck) Kelley Jr. , president of New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary; Richard D. Land , president of the Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission; and R. Albert Mohler Jr. , president of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. Expand your understanding as Baptist doctrine is brought to life through engaging historical and contemporary illustrations and applications. Participants will learn to articulate better the basic Baptist beliefs, give the biblical foundation for these beliefs, and apply the beliefs to their individual Christian walks. Book includes a leader guide in the back. (6 sessions)
Super helpful workbook for understanding Baptist doctrine. It breaks down each section and explains it in detail, plus there are workbook questions for deeper understanding. It has some self-reflection components that help deepen your faith.
I was really encouraged by this book. It just lays out the basic doctrines and theology of the Baptist beliefs and why we believe it Scripturally. I’d encourager any believer, Baptist or not, to read this!
I read this for a class. Good book that explains the Baptist Faith and Message. It is easy to understand and shows how each article is relevant for today. It has questions in each chapter which helps to learn the material but none of them are very difficult. Highly recommend for all Southern Baptist to learn more about the BFM.
A fantastic overview of Baptist theology. Lots of supporting scripture is provided, including memory verses. I would highly recommend this workbook for discipleship or Bible study.
Good book to read. The chapters and text are easy to follow. There are scriptures from the Bible in the book that are good references for the material covered in each chapter. Scriptures and verses are found on the outer columns of the text. All information in the book I found relevant and informative. One of my favorite scriptures found in the book from chapter 14 Evangelism and Missions is: Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe everything I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age." Matthew 28:19-20
An excellent overview and commentary of the Baptist Faith & Message 2000 by three individuals who are very qualified to write it. Southern Baptists as a whole would benefit from reading this and having group studies to help reduce spiritual ignorance among people of our denomination and teach them how what we believe promotes our spiritual growth and relationship to God.
It was a good study. I walked through this with our youth and it lead to some good conversation. Obviously, I do not agree with all parts and aspects of the study but, by and large, I do not differ too much from the SBC and the Baptist Faith and Message.
