As with C.S. Lewis, I am never surprised to read about the remarkable wives of distinguished men. Susannah Spurgeon is one such woman. Her devotion to the Lord, to her husband and children, and to the causes about which she was so passionate, is nothing short of awe-inspiring. Her relationship with her husband is enchanting and all the more beautiful because it was completely rooted in their mutual desire to serve the Lord in every way they could. Though I am thoroughly content to serve the Lord unto death as a single woman, I could only hope that were I to be married, it would be of such a nature as theirs. It is such a testament to the grace of God what the Gospel can do to the hearts of men and women, and even more so when the two become one with themselves while also striving for such a unity with the Lord (#relationshipgoals). Anyway, Susannah brought many a thing to the table, and, dare I say, I do not think Charles Spurgeon would be half the man he became without her. Though God could have made it so, I believe her husband would agree with me about that. What a woman!
