How far would you dare to go to win it all?

Maverick Holms and Duke Warren share almost everything—a college soccer team, an apartment and the same extremely competitive nature. Thanks to that never-back-down spirit, they're about to share more than they bargained for.

The game is gay chicken. The rule: get as close as possible without kissing, and the one that pulls away first is the loser. The problem: neither of them likes to lose. It isn't long before the game becomes an excuse to touch and kiss in every possible forbidden way. And after they pose for a gay website to earn extra money, things really heat up.

Suddenly Duke is talking lifetime commitment, and Mav is backpedaling as hard as he can, not sure if he's ready to accept all his best friend is offering him. Or the truth about what he is.

She is thirty-something and lives in Florida with a husband, a son, and two cats. She had been writing erotic fiction for her own gratification for a number of years before it occurred to her to try and get paid for it. What to say about this book? I asked for short, quick and hot and that's what I got. Sometimes I need to be careful what I wish for. I may have gotten all of those things, but what I did not get were believable characters, any substance of plot or realistic dialogue.

Allow me to give you the "progression" of this book and Mav and Duke's relationship.

Hey bro, let's play gay chicken!

Hey man, let's play extreme gay chicken!

Hey dude, let's play naked extreme gay chicken!

And then BOOM! A very quick jump to love from one of the MC's...

Ta Da!

This may have been enjoyable if the characters weren't using the weirdest scenarios and rationalizations to experiment. They also zipped from one end of the spectrum to the other in a heartbeat.

And the dialogue was awkward....almost how an older person would think someone in their early twenties would talk.

Overall, this was a quick, steamy yet kinda awkward read. Lesson learned...be careful what you wish for.

This book was a great, quick, sexy read. My issues with with the very thin plot. To me, it was like an underdeveloped version of "Hot Head," taking place in college instead of a firehouse. It could have used another 50 or so pages of buildup and depth. I'd still read this again. What can I say, I'm a sucker for "gay for you" books with tall, hot guys!

3.5 gay chicken stars

Just go zen and let the urge to roll your eyes and smirk pass...deep breaths...in...out...in...out....

Now get your mind out of the gutter and fucking focus!

This book was hilarious and super steamy. It's a little nugget of GFY/OFY, and I sort of loved it.

For sure, it was too easy. For sure, things like this don't happen "in real life." But who the fuck cares? Two hunky college boys cuddling, kissing, frotting, and blowing each other all in the name of "extreme gay chicken," and you're not gonna hear me complain.

This was really nice! It was a little different from what I expected, but overall I enjoyed it a lot.

It was a gay chicken porn fantasy that turned into something mushy and romantic. It was almost unbelievable really. But instead of getting annoyed, I didn't.

I liked most of the things with it. The MC's, the story. Mav and Duke are cute btw. The sex were hot enough. I liked it.

Mav & Duke

I think this will do if you want a sweet (and a little spicy) short GFY read. Enjoy! :D

Boy, that story is like a delicious piece of chocolate cake. You know you shouldn't have it, but you just can't resist its delicious sweetness.

Duke and Mav, two straight macho college jocks, are captain and goalie in their college soccer team. Their competitive nature reaches new heights when Duke starts playing a silly drinking game he calls 'gay chicken', which consists of Duke pretending to kiss his best friend. The first one to give loses.
Mac doesn't like losing, so the silly game leads to both guys French kissing pretty quickly - because you know, losing isn't an option.

Just weird that Mac isn't repulsed by kissing his 'male' friend. Strange, right? But watching other nude guys in the gym showers isn't doing anyhting for him, so he can't be gay, right? Right?!

description

In the tradition of the many Gay for You stories that we love so much (I admit, there's something about straight guys experimenting...), Mav and Duke are taking the gay chicken thing further...

“So you think you could do it?” he asked casually, giving Duke a challenging look. “Think you could stand to have your face that close to another guy’s cock without freaking out?”
“I know I could.” Duke raised an eyebrow. “The question is, could you?”
Mav leaned forward, looking his best friend in the eye. “I’m not afraid.”

and further......

Then he realized what he’d said and hastily rephrased. “Uh, I mean, I dare you to touch me.”
“No problem.” Duke’s voice was low and sensual. Reaching up, he palmed Mav’s aching shaft carefully and stroked it from root to tip.
“God!” Mav’s hips bucked forward involuntarily with the pleasure of his friend’s hand and he couldn’t quite suppress the groan that rose to his lips.
“Feels good?” Duke asked softly, stroking him again.
“You know it does,” Mav almost gasped.

AND FURTHER.....

“Yeah, Mav, I want you to come in my mouth.” Then he seemed to realize exactly what he’d said because his face got red and he added, “I mean, I’m gonna suck you so hard you have no choice but to come and then I’ll be the reigning supreme champion of ultimate gay chicken.”

LOL.

The first half of the story is the insanely hot, highly erotic journey of both guys getting physical with each other. Then the story takes an unexpected turn with

Still, I liked these guys immensely and I was totally happy when they worked out their troubles. I'm not a fan of GFY as such, but I'm totally starting to understand the attraction ;-)

Gay chicken?

A four year, "super close" friendship in which one friend lies constantly about not only his attraction, but also his sexual orientation, and oh yeah, his entire fucking personality?

And could someone please explain to Evangeline Anderson that the whole point of using the number 8 in a word is so you don't have to use any more letters. It's Str8 Boys, dear.

So Duke and Mav (Maverick) are in a bit of a tight spot. They need rent money fast. Mav doesn't mind the way Duke displays affection and likes to play "gay chicken". But Mav is a little worried about his own growing affection towards his best friend.

Once again this is a sweet drop of delicous manlove. Seriously what Evangeline Anderson does in 100 pages or less keeps her on my auto buy for m/m romance. Her characters are not only scorchers in the love scenes
but their feelings for each other are lovingly crafted so that you feel involved in the relationship. I think that is what takes my breath away. The complete abandon of the love between her characters. Even as they try and sort the confusing feelings they still carry the emotion with such fragility. So hard to display between men. Evangeline Anderson manages to do that time and again. Just amazing!

4.5 stars. I really enjoyed this book. It's short, but the author did a fabulous job crafting the characters and making them 3-dimensional. Even Duke felt fully realized, and the entire book was in Mav's POV.

Short, hot and with scorching sexual tension. Not huge on the angst, but just enough considering the characters and plot, and definitely enough to make me feel for both heroes. Plus, the 2 heroes are gorgeous!!! :D Definitely recommended if you are in the mood for a quick, hot read.

Ha! I really liked it! Another hot gay-for-you story that I could not put down. I thought the “gay chicken” game was a bit silly but it was so hot and great for increasing the sexual tension. Its pretty much all sex, but I still recommend it for when you are in the mood for something light and smexy and not entirely believable.

Did I say this was hot?

^^GAYE BOYS!^^

Seriously, if there are straight boys out there playing *gay chicken*, then I need to be invited to these showdowns. I would show up with my camera, posters and other fan girl necessities. I have a feeling that this short story is a bit cliché and filled with stereotypes. Yet I really kinda liked it, nothing is better than a gay for you, or 'str8te' roommate friends getting down and dirty and being completely stupid.

Its pretty simple to wrap this story up, roommate friends play gay chicken (if you know what the game chicken is, then gay chicken falls under the same rules; only its a lot more ridiculi). The gay chicken story escalates into hot loving, and feelings and boners start popping up everywhere.

It was short story, but apart from the clichés, it deals with a strong topic. How far are you willing to go to fit in? Would hiding who you were, make you happy. Therefore, if you want a hot read, without the huge story, and hot muscle men feeling each other up, then this story is for you. MMmmmmmm muscle men feeling each other up, yep there goes my pants.

Also, glad to see there is an Evangeline story, that doesn’t involve extreme circumstances for the lead males to have sex. It was getting quite tiresome.

Gay for you, friends to lovers .. Whatever! I started this thinking it would just be a bit of lightweight sexy fun and it sort of is but I didn't realise just how much I would end up loving it.

One of those easy almost laid back romances that you can see exactly how and where Its going with no real surprises but the getting there is sooo enjoyable that it really doesn't matter. Two jocks who through playing a game called Gay Chicken ( which is very sexaay by the way ) and posing for a porn site called Str8te Boys to get a bit extra cash, start to realise that maybe there's a bit more than bi Curiousity going on between them and one of them may not be the archetypal dumb jock he makes out to be.

I can definitely see myself coming back for another read many times with this one, just because its got delicious sexual tension, two loveable Mc's, that great feel good factor and a happy * sigh * style ending. Oh and did I say it was sizzling hot? Capitol K for Keeper. Thanks Cagla for the reccomend.

I read this near the start of my M/M addiction, and I actually enjoyed it.
It was smutty and it was sweet (sort of, at some point), and that's all I was looking for. I didn't know better.

Five minutes ago it popped up in my feed again and I felt compelled to reread a bit of it, at least the first pages, to see if my perception of it had changed.
It has.
As in: I now see that it's badly written, OTT, in your face and riddled with the kind of "friendly" (inject some heavy-duty sarcasm in that word when you read it) homophobic slurs and stereotyping.
And that just pisses me off, but what pisses me off even more is that I apparently two years ago I was both blind and stupid, because this is the kind of story I'd drop like a hot brick if I were to come across it now.

It is positively, unquestionably a one-star story, with a side of fuck off.

4 Scorching Gay Chicken stars

This books was way better than I expected.

“Gay chicken,” Duke whispered, leaning in. The idea was for two guys to get as close to kissing as they could. The one to pull away first was the loser".

For me Str8te Boys was fun, sweet, super sexy and just a great time. Mav and Duke are perfect together. Was it predictable? Maybe, to a point. Was there a surprise? Maybe, you have to read to find out.

This kind of book is perfect when you want a short, sexy, easy read to get the feels and get a little overheated with.

Loved. Recommended.

A disappointing read. The first half of the story had 2 fumbling jocks fooling around based on dares and a game of “gay chicken”. Then halfway through, a switch is flipped and they are “lovers” and saying every overused cliched dirty talk phrase you’ve ever read in erotic fiction. I actually had to check to see if I was reading the same book. The story was rushed and uninspired.

4 ½ stars – Contemporary M/M Romance/Erotica

This is a sweet, steamy quickie read about college best friends, roommates, and soccer teammates Maverick “Mav” and Duke who suddenly find themselves getting rather hot and heavy when they raise the stakes on their competitive game of “gay chicken”. After four years as best buds and roomies, Mav has grown accustomed to Duke’s open touches and expressive displays of affection, but when things start to heat up between them and cross the platonic line, he becomes confused and conflicted by his growing feelings. When Duke surprises Mav with his receptiveness to take things further, can Mav face his own fears and meet his best friend’s challenge? It’s a fun, hot little read with a couple of sweet, young, hunkalicious athlete heroes who engage in some yummy manlovin’ that also warms the heart. 4 ½ stars!

Great start

Loved the beginning of this short story. After reading the sample, I decided to purchase the whole thing. Unfortunately, the promising, snappy, and authentic sounding dialogue devolved into two touchy-feely, bare-my-soul, these guys-wouldn't-be-saying-this dialogue. Perhaps a longer length novel would have allowed for more realistic character development and situations. In all, there were a few, hot tension-filled scenes which made this quick read fun. This was my first by the author, but I'm tempted to check out other titles because this story held promise.

Re-read: June 23, 2017. Raised one Star!

Wow, what a different impression I got of this short read the second time around. I liked it all. Loved the gay chicken play. And this time around it didn't feel too sappy at all. Super fun read!

I was pleasantly surprised by this one. I really liked it and holy shit was it hot, hot, HOT! Even if it was all set up kind of weird it still smoldered! I was very surprised as to the why of the games being played, honestly, I think I thought it was Mav and not Duke at first. I don’t know, maybe because we were in Mav’s head but I was surprised by the depth of why the game was being played. I really didn't expect that but welcomed it. This was kind of similar to Hot Head but I liked this better. Overall, quick, f’n hot and sweet read.

This was more than I expected. I thought it would be a cheesy bit of PWP by the blurb and I was ready for that. What I wasn’t ready for was the damn emotions that came with this story.

Maverick and Duke are best friends, teammates and roommates. They have it all while being successful soccer jocks at the University of South Florida and these boys love to play games with each other. Their levels of competition with who can win at the game of gay chicken is just one that they *ahem* get off on and it was adorable and pretty damn hot to read. I was unprepared for just how hot it would be and just when my jaw was on the floor and my tongue hanging out these two would turn me into a puddle with how damn sweet they were.
“Gay chicken,” Duke whispered, leaning in. The idea was for two guys to get as close to kissing as they could. The one to pull away first was the loser.

Oh boy. The story is told in Maverick/Mav’s POV and this boy struggles every step of the way. Even when he is winning the game or letting go he is fighting what he feels for Duke. Should he feel it? Is this just a game to both of them? Why do they play the game, sleep in the same bed, sit so close to each other, have their arms around each other…yeah. I think you need to ask yourself a few questions here boys.

Mav and Duke are short on rent and when a friend lets them know how they can make some extra and quick cash modeling for a gay porn site called Str8te Boy, they decide to try it. As long as nothing really gay happens then they are okay with it all, right? I mean, it’s not like they haven’t kissed with the game before so why would this be any different? But of course it always is and when Mav starts to wonder why it’s no big deal to do this with Duke but he doesn’t want to do it with other guys…oh I adore the gay for you journey so much. So. Much.
Apparently seeing other naked guys in the shower didn’t do it for him, but the idea of getting physical with his best friend made him all kinds of horny. He had a feeling that they both wanted the same thing but neither one could admit it. Instead, they had to dare each other into it.

I thought it was adorable how the boys turned it into a game of "I dare you" to get what they wanted from each other though it did break my heart with the scene Duke overhears after he laid it all out there for Mav to take and it was sad when the bit of angst hit after that. I hurt for both Duke and Mav as they tried to work it out and if and where they would go from there. I was so happy with that end scene at the team party. It was great and I did a mini fist pump in the air with them as I read it.

Str8te Boys was fun, sweet, super sexy and just a great time. Was it predictable? Sure, to a point. Did that stop me from enjoying it? Um, hello it’s gay for you with UST, so no. Never. Would I recommend it? That I would. It's perfect when you want a short, sexy, easy read to get the feels and get a little overheated with.

Right off the bat the cover and the title are a win for this book. I don't think any fan of m/m can pass it up without at least reading the blurb. Once I read the blurb...I immediately knew these guys. I went to college with them or high school or they hang out at my favorite sports bar or play on my husband's pick up league... Add the author, Evangeline Anderson and presto...I had to read it and it went str8 to the top of my TBR pile. (W00T an Evangeline Anderson that isn't from Ellora's Cave - more win!)

This was a fast paced read. This is a GFY story with a fun premise that I really enjoyed. It was plausible (if GFY is ever plausible) and interesting from the first page.

Mav had a hard time finally understanding what his urges and fantasies were telling him after his years of rooming with his best friend and teammate. I found his character more interesting then Duke. The POV comes from Mav so we get way more of his angst and concern over his behavior and burgeoning feelings. This book would have benefited from having Dukes POV as well, but I know many people don’t like changing POV so I may be in a minority here.

I appreciated that Duke’s character was less opposed to the match, but his hurt and anger over the way Mav reacted to this new blooming situation seemed a bit unrealistic. Mav's reaction was not abnormal and should have been expected.

It cut off too soon though. I would have liked to have seen the aftermath from friends and family and how they weathered that storm in more detail.

(nit picky for the title - it should just be str8. adding the "te" is redundant)

I liked the chemistry and even the sex but the emotions? Not so much.

They both appeared to be accepting of the lgbtq community but the idea of them being part of the community was not readily accepted by either of them. Even after many indications of their 'gayness' they still didn't want to even consider that they might be part of the spectrum which I didn't like. They slept together for gods sake. Like everyday. Together in one bed. And cuddled. They regularly played gay chicken where both of them wouldn't back down. Sitting near the other gave them hard-ones but still they wouldn't accept it. No they were just straight guys blowing off some steam. I didn't expect them to label themselves or anything but at the very least they could agree that they were not as straight as they would like to believe. I understand that locker room etiquette is not that fair to people who are not straight but not being out to even themselves? I didn't like it so I had to stop.

My first full-length m/m novella, and I was actually surprised how much fun it was. There is definitely something exciting about two sexy guys having the hots for each other.

Erotic but at the same time, sweetly romantic, I enjoyed my first foray in the m/m genre.

Special thanks to Nichole for sharing this with me.

3+/3.5 stars. Smokin' hot on the sexytimes, but some stuff just didn't ring true for me, even when I took into consideration the fact that we were in the fantastical world of romantic/erotic fiction. I was pleased that Duke (non-POV main character) got his HEA, but I was a little skeptical that it was Mav's HEA, as well (POV main character). The writing was engaging, though, and I wouldn't hesitate to try more of Evangeline Anderson's work in the future.

Sexy jocks playing silly chicken games. A hot read, even if I did have to ignore the repetitious nature of the writing. The smutty bits were worth it. Evangeline Anderson writes such a good build up that by the time they get there, those boys will have you on the edge of your seat. So to speak… a definite re read for the smex.

Meh, nothing new here. Two college guys experimenting under the disguise of the "gay chicken" game until they can admit their feelings for one another.

A light read. Duke was cute but not much really going on in this one.
