The ultimate visual companion and keepsake to the making of the stunning fantasy film The Chronicles of The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe based on the beloved children’s classic by C.S. Lewis.
Perry Moore was a best-selling author, film producer, screenwriter, and director, best known as the executive producer of The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. Moore grew up in Virginia Beach, Virginia and attended Norfolk Academy. He majored in English at the University of Virginia, where he was an Echols Scholar.
A longtime fan of children’s literature and comic books, Moore’s first novel, Hero, the first of a fantasy series about a group of modern-day superheroes, tells the story of the world’s first gay teen superhero. A big screen adaptation is in the works with Stan Lee.
Moore died on February 17, 2011, at the age of 39, of an apparent overdose of pain medication at his home in the SoHo neighborhood of Manhattan.
This is one hell of a brilliant book! "The Lion, The Witch And The Wardrobe" Visual Companion by Perry Moore is as visual as it comes; the photography stills from the movie, the conceptual art illustrations and the behind the scenes photos are fantastic. I especially like the full scale photograph of the titular wardrobe which is accompanied with explanations for all of the carvings that were engraved into it which drew direct inspiration from the first book "The Magician's Nephew", such as the magic rings, the hammer and the bell, the first sunrise on Narnia and the apple tree, therefore telling that story simply in carvings. It's wonderful! It's also an absolute delight to read this book; there are four sections dedicated to the characters of Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy Pevensie along with character descriptions from the actors, William Moseley, Anna Popplewell, Skandar Keynes and Georgie Henley as well as from the casting director Pippa Hall and the director Andrew Adamson, and Perry Moore has a very readable narrative voice in every other chapter as well. Some things that he's written will always stand out after reading this book, like the hugely enjoyable diary entries by Anna Popplewell, the interviews conducted by Georgie Henley and also a few other highlights that had never entered my mind when watching the film, like the absolute terror and surprise that both Georgie Henley and James McAvoy had of each other when he was all made up as a Faun and they were put on the spot for the very first scene together with no warning whatsoever!. So yep, that's why the scene when Lucy and Mr. Tumnus encounter each other for the first time is so damn great; they do actually scare each other! It's brilliant! It's also interesting to read about the entire film making process and the various locations, such as Flock Hill in Canterbury and Elephant Rocks in North Otago on the South Island of New Zealand, and Pravcicka Brana, the natural rock arch which was shot from a helicopter eye view up in the Czech Republic, all of which are shown in breathtakingly full scale photographs, and the constant search that was conducted by the film makers for as many snowy settings as possible which absolutely paid off in the final, full feature film. I also love reading about the intense chemistry between the actors and the entire crew and how they all 'clicked' together, and the writings for the children's various outfits and for the armour that was designed by Weta Workshop are great too. There's also a beautifully insightful interview between Perry Moore and C.S Lewis's stepson Douglas Gresham which is well worth reading. Overall, this is a truly inspiring, magical and well written Visual Companion that stands next to and complements both the truly classical book by C.S Lewis as well as the film which will always stand the test of time. I will admit that when the film first came out I was determined not to like it given how much I've always enjoyed the book, however, it has since cracked my initially sceptical exterior and I am always transported by it now and, as I have already mentioned, there are some wonderful eye openers to be found in this Companion which make me appreciate the overall film even more, given that so many dedicated people, particularly "The Lord of the Rings" illustrator and conceptual artist Alan Lee and the director (and Narnia fan) Andrew Adamson have brought C.S Lewis's classic children's story to life so vividly on screen. I am very happy to own this book; it was delivered in very good time and brand new condition and it is a great testament to all of the hard work and effort that a film crew take onto their shoulders.
The movie, like the book, was incredibly clever. The book was exquisitely wonderful. I loved every single little detail of it. the way C.S. lewis set it out was so clever I got sucked in the very first moment I started to read it. Imean, that's the way Books are supposed to be written. the very first sentence needs to have some sort of hook like, "but I want to go back now!". with a sentence like that the reader gets a desire to read on because the sentence get's them thinking. Who's talking? what are they talking about? Where do they want to go back to? things like that are the sort of things that should be in a book. and that's exactly what C.S. lewis has done with all of his books. well done, I say!
An exceptional movie companion, considering what’s usually on the market with these kinds of movie tie-in books. It has very personable writing from the producer who organized it, with sections written by others involved; an incredibly well-designed layout, with special artwork and good photography; and I love how the whole focus is on craft and character in filmmaking. The letter at the end from Douglas Gresham is a special treat.
First read and adored right after the movie was released on 2005. Reread in May 2018.
I bit hard to get into as it was my third time reading it but the ending was as good as ever and it is quite obvious that J R R Tolkien and C S Lewis were friends.
“The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe” by C.S. Lewis. The story of “The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe” is a fantastic story in a fantasy world named Narnia. There are some themes in Narnia which are classic and relevant in today’s world. There are two themes that stand out for me in this classic novel. The first is that good always triumphs over evil. This theme is still relevant today and is a part of our everyday lives. This doesn’t mean that bad things don’t happen to good people; it means that when good people set out to do good things, the power of goodness will always triumph over the power of darkness and wickedness. In the story sometimes wickedness seems to be winning but eventually the good will prevail. The second theme is that when people have a common goal putting the greater good of the world before their own selfish interests great things can happen. If a person can see the “Big Picture” and recognize that the world does not revolve around them, they can make a difference. In the novel Aslan the magical lion lead the Narnians to battle with the White Witches army. They were fighting to protect life, preserve freedom, and for the happiness of the people. This was something they believed in and they were willing to give their lives for this cause. In the movie Narnia they leave out quite a few scenes like in the movie, the children and the Beavers are swept into the raging torrent of thawing waters, where they almost drown, but this does not happen in the book. I would recommend this book to others. It was a great book and it had really descriptive words to describe the setting. It was a very good book read it!
This book is about a magical place called Narnia. These four children find Narnia by going in a wordrobe. Who new they were going to be the rulers of Narnia but there is a witch who is willing to kill them so she will get the throne. And a lion willing his life to help them.
What starts out as a game of hide-and-seek quickly turns into the adventure of their lives for Peter, Susan, Edmund, and Lucy. They are transported into a magical land called Narnia through a magical wardrobe. “This must be a simply enormous wardrobe!” thought Lucy as she entered the wardrobe for the first time. When Lucy, the one who discovered Narnia, enters Narnia, she finds that it is eternally frozen by the White Witch. The witch says she is the Queen of Narnia, but she is really an evil empress.
The real king of Narnia, Aslan, is said to have an army to fight against the White Witch to reclaim Narnia. Peter, Susan, Edmund, and Lucy, all siblings, are part of a prophecy saying that one day two sons of Adam and two daughters of Eve will enter Narnia and put an end to the rain of the White Witch and her eternal winter. However, all does not always go as planned.
This is a fantastic book based in the time during WWII. The children have to leave England and live with a professor in a huge mansion. The author, C. S. Lewis, has won the Carnegie Medal, one of the highest awards in writing. Lewis does a fantastic job with the plot of the story and also the language used, especially to describe the landscape, is fantastic.
You can picture scenes in your head easily and with beauty. Lewis skips a few scenes in the book which I think would be nice to read. Otherwise this is a fantastic book for anyone at any age. The movie is also very good. I would recommend the book and movie to anyone.
I fell for this book, from the first step to snow and ice to the lone islands and beyond this book and movie series(which I have) has always left me in a state of feeling accomplishments. I also have the entire book series at home,so like I got the package and boy was it worth it! I recommend this book to anyone who is looking for excitement and mystical whimsical and morally structured books and movies, plus it's based on the time when kingdom's used to exist. But most of all its Christian based, and I fully support that.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
1. I decided to read the lion the witch and the wardrobe because I needed to read a classic book and this was recommended to me by one of my friends.
2. A character I found interesting was Edmund. He was the first of the four children to meet 'the White Witch' and was the only one that was on the witches side. I found him interesting because he didn't really listen to his siblings because he wanted to become the king of Narnia, which was selfish of him, because it put everyone else in great danger.
3. My favourite quote from the novel is "always winter but never christmas." This quote shows that the witch takes the good out of the bad. This quote also shows what type of creature the witch really is, she is a mean selfish person looking to control Narnia, which obviously means she isn't a good person.
4. this book made me think about the world of fantasy and how i would react in this kind of situation. i feel that i would have reacted terribly and probably have broken down. the characters show great bravery and curiosity when wandering into the woods.
If you are a fan of the Narnia books and / or films then I recommend wholeheartedly this movie companion. Actually, if you're interested in making movies or the process of making movies then I would still recommend it, as it is a very detailed account of all areas of production, narrated by those who love the Narnia books and created the films. This movie companion isn't a ploy to make money from the film, it is crafted with depth and substance, which will make you want to relive (and help you relive) the Narnia magic over and over again.
I really like this book, it showed so much more behind the scenes from the film and it made me understand what it took to make the film. I loved reading about everything and going into the lives of the actors and crews. I really want to watch the movie again and I just love everything about it!

Going into behind the scenes of 'The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe' and discovering how the magic was made.
Including: Never-before-seen images from the movie, exclusive behind-the-scenes stories, an in-depth discussion with director, actor profiles and interviews, and reflections and stories from those who meticulously created the costumes, armor, weapons, creatures, sets, beasts, and special effects.
i've read this so many times, the pages are beginning to fall out. Narnia was truly my first fandom & my childhood, as i grew up reading the books countless times & watching the movies over & over again.
i love this book, as it gives you a look into the making of the movie & lots of behind the scenes details.
This book explores several themes. The most prominent theme is the battle between good and evil, betrayal and redemption, temptation and self-control, in addition to religion, love, sacrifice, and forgiveness. The characters, themes, and symbolism in this book are so complex and multi-dimensional which kept me engaged and eager to continue reading. I highly recommend this book!
I’ve read this book when I was like eight and now seven years later I see it in a different light. Everything gets different with time as you get older. Just as the kings and queen of Cair Paravel saw the lamp differently than by the sight of four kids who once found the entrance through the door of the wardrobe.
An amazing peek behind the scenes of the film! Learning about the dedication put into every aspect of the production by every person involved and seeing the passion behind it made the movie all the more magical to me and gave me a greater appreciation for it.
Creo que está perfecto para la edad en que uno inicia a leer, sobre todo un género así. Creo que faltó más descripción y más sufrimiento pero le doy mis cuatro estrellitas porque la historia en si misma es hermosa
