Albright Sisters #3

Nothing Denied

Rate this book
They say he murdered his wife . . .

Entering her seventh unsuccessful season, Beatrice Albright is beginning to realize that her beauty cannot compensate for her shrewish ways. A desperate woman whom no one wants, she must seek a man whom no one else will marry: the despised and mysterious Marquis of Highcroft, Gareth Berenger. Rumor has it he is a killer, but Beatrice is far more terrified of spinsterhood and the company of her mother than she is of Berenger's dark reputation.

But Gareth, while intrigued by the alluring hellion's proposal, has a proposition of his own. A man of particular tastes, he will wed no woman unwilling to satisfy them. His bride must be adventurous, afraid of nothing, and eager to experience any passion and pleasure he can devise, no matter how shocking and taboo. If Beatrice agrees to a trial affair if she can happily shed all her inhibitions in the end they will be wed.

And so the die is cast as Beatrice and Gareth embark on an erotic path where danger awaits them at every turn, en route to a world of exquisite ecstasy where there is nothing forbidden...nothing denied.

Jess Michaels is a USA Today Bestselling Author who likes geeky stuff like Star Wars, playing video games (she ships herself with Dragon Age’s Iron Bull FOREVER), Bob’s Burgers and collecting POPs! She also drinks a LOT of Diet Coke. Probably an unhealthy amount, but it’s her only vice. She will eat (almost) anything coconut, truly anything cheesy and nothing spicy (yes, she is a walking stereotype when it comes to that). She likes cats, her dog Elton and people who care about the welfare of their fellow humans.

Although she started out traditionally published by Avon/HarperCollins, Pocket, Hachette and Samhain Publishing, in 2015 she went fully indie and has never looked back! She is lucky enough to be married to her favorite person in the world and live tucked between the ocean and the mountains in Oregon.

When she’s not watching Our Flag Means Death or trying out all the new flavors of Greek yogurt, she writes historical romances with smoking hot heroes and sassy heroines who do anything but wait to get what they want.

Disappointing, anticlimactic, formulaic and really just same old (**sigh**), same old (**sigh sigh**) and that’s just too bad because this is one top notch series. There isn’t one ounce of emotion in this story. The h/h are unlikeable characters who never connect on any level apart from sex and even that isn’t engaging. I’m not a fan of the dom/sub theme and sure there are no whips and chains and what have you for it to be a true BDSM novel, but why the author felt the need even to add that psychological element of master/slave I don’t know. It’s almost as if she had to fit into “the erotic historical box” that has to have these components while all too often skimping on the story when that’s what she does best. It just gives the feel of “here we go again/seen it all before/when’s the anal part coming” (**sigh sigh**).

The story itself is very thin. Beatrice Albright isn’t the most agreeable or friendly person in town and she’s been shunned by everyone in the ton since her coming out around eight years ago because she has such a caustic personality. Of course behind the shrew the author wants you to believe that there’s a misunderstood woman and to some degree her bitchiness is a cover but she’s still a bitch, a pain in the ass, a witch with a chip on her shoulder whatever you want to call it. I couldn’t believe that she liked to be dominated by Garreth and that’s what made her truly shine. It was all such an uneven playing field given her personality that I couldn’t buy the love story. She gets together with Garreth by proposing that two try to see if they’re compatible because everybody hates him too and if they’re a go then they should get married. He agrees on the condition that she becomes his sex slave because he’s a man of “unusual tastes and proclivities”. What he really is is an idiot. Right off the bat he’s that “I’m Mr Hot Dominant Male. You can’t come until I say so or you’ll be punished” –eesh. I hate those stories. Where’s the trust building? Where’s the getting to you know you part? It’s just bam in your face I’m the wannabe Marquis de Sade and you’ll like it muahahaha --whatever :-/ Ok, he isn’t that extreme but he is annoying with his master/slave bit as is she. I just don’t see how the reader can buy into it.

Now there may be readers who enjoy all that but there are still too many parts of the story itself that are missing to like it as a whole I think. There’s no passion between the two. It’s like they meet, they agree to get down and dirty, down and dirty turns out to be dom/sub–like (reader doing the ol’ eye roll because you can pretty much see how the rest of the story is going to pan out), she likes it, he’s surprised, then the stupid caper happens and then love and the sickly smelling barf epilogue. End of series.

I just wanted this book to finish which was really frustrating because Jess Michaels is a great writer who pens excellent erotic historicals that give a nice dollop of emotional depth and sex. Well here she’s like everyone else. Boring and unimaginatively blah.

There are appearances by some of the other characters from previous books, mostly Miranda and Ethan from book 1 but nothing exciting there. The sudden caper felt like filler and lacking in subtlety as to why it’s there and the reader knows exactly why the story veers that way too which gets the eye rolling in full swing --again. There are many aspects of romance novels that tell the reader what’s going to happen because they’ve seen it X number of times but it’s how the writer writes the scene that makes you like it, love it or just plain want to chuck the book out the window. This was a “chuck the book” for all the reasons already listed.

So this was a dud read for me. 2.5 stars because unfortunately I've seen this kind of cookie cutter/connect the dots read too many times before and coming from Jess Michaels just makes it even worse.

I'm sure everyone who reads this book will not love it as I did but this is exactly the type of book for me.
Not everyone will like the heroine, but for me that made this book very interesting. It was refreshing to have a heroine who everyone disliked and the thing is, she knew it and knew why. The hero was able to see through all that and because he could, she was different with him.

Beatrice was in her 7th season when her older sister decided to chaperone her younger sister for the season leaving her alone with her mother. Knowing this Beatrice knew that if she did not find a husband soon that she would never marry and end up stuck with her mom. She goes to a ball and tries her hardest to smile and be a nice person. She then realizes she is too late, nobody wants to even be around her.

It was said that Garreth killed his wife. He also blames himself and has not been in society for some time now. He feels badly because his grandmother wrote him a letter before she died begging him to remarry and have an heir to carry one their line. He loved his grandmother very much so he finally decides it's time to go back to London to find a bride.

When Garreth does this, everyone stays away from him. This is when Beatrice notice's him. She see's that people are treating him just the way they treat her and decides that he should be her husband.

Soon afterwards Beatrice approaches Garreth while in the park and asks him to marry her. He tells her that they would need to spend some time together to see if she would be able to handle his sexual needs. At the end of 2 weeks if they match he will marry her, if not he would set her up so that she could be on her own. After thinking it over, she is willing to give it a try.

From there on out the book became VERY steamy. I loved reading how they brought the best of each other out.

My gosh, I'm terrible at explaining books. I think I'll stop there and hope that you all decide to give this book a shot.

2.5 Stars, simply because I like Jess Michaels!

The Plot
The pretty but super high in her in-step, I am better than everyone, bitchy Beatrice is upset (to put it mildly) because her family has decided it would be easier to find a decent match for the youngest sister over her. To get away from her annoying, meddlesome, social-climbing mother and to childishly prove something to her sisters, Beatrice decides she NEEDS to get married this season, after 7 seasons! But nobody wants her, shocking, right? Anyhoo, so her solution is to find a guy no one wants and so they can be social outcasts together. Lucky for her such a man, a Lord no less, has just re-entered society, Gareth, Marquess of Highcroft. The last of his line, he needs an heir, but finding a wife can be difficult when everyone thinks, you murdered your first wife and you do not refute the claims nor defend yourself. So Beatrice tracks him down, proposes, he agrees to a trial run of 15 days, she agrees, they take off to his estate. But, Gareth is a man of peculiar proclivities and he will accept nothing short of total surrender from Beatrice. Oh, and there is a villain, something to with the dead wife (I would have written the spoiler but I wouldn't even begin to know how to transcribe it), kidnapping, a lot of sex, light BDSM and apparently a HEA.

Having said that there is no plot, I sure did write a lot!

Here is my problem with this book
This is an erotica masquerading as a romance novel. To say it has a plot would be an insult to plots, which is a shame considering the previous books in this series did have some shred of a storyline.

I was hard-pressed to believe that Gareth & Beatrice fell in love! They had one personal conversation, ONE! The story lacked emotions between them, which was baffling because individually they were characters capable of experiencing their feelings.

I still have no clue as to why they fell for each other. Even they admit their connection was more physical than emotional up until 85% of the book. The heroine gets kidnapped and suddenly Gareth is in love with her and cannot live without her and she comes to the same realization because he thinks she is going to die? Sure, yeah, I believe that!

What I did like
The unapologetic nature of sexual encounters. It can be a tricky subject to navigate, the Dominant - Submissive relationship, but Ms Michaels handled it with due respect. The prose was well written, but that is unsurprising because Jess Michaels is very talented with her written word.

The Hero
Gareth was an interesting alpha male, unusual and also honourable, with his refusal to malign his late wife. He is quiet but not perpetually brooding, knows what he wants and goes for it. It's refreshing to read a character who is more than acceptant & unashamed, who owns his sexual proclivities, it's just there, he knows it, he is more than okay with it and isn't afraid to ask for it. He loves it and I loved that.

The Heroine
Beatrice was difficult to digest. A poster child for daddy issues, she was rude & bitchy with a superiority complex. Her behaviour in society is deplorable, the only reason she is accepted is probably because her older sisters are married to influential Lords. After a while, even the acceptance stopped, believably. And that is when she started thinking about her behaviour (Thank the Lord for small favours of character development).

Praise for Jess Michaels - She was able to psychologically outline Beatrice's rudeness related to fear of abandonment and submissive desires to the need for someone to take control of things & take care of her. As a psychologist, I can attest to the fact that this is quite probable.

My Recommendation
I think, when you start psycho-analysing an erotica, it speaks volumes about the enjoyability of the book. This turned out to be more rant than a review because it's so disappointing that someone as talented as Ms Michaels produced this. Stop at Book 1 (Everything Forbidden), you will sleep better.

The third and final book in the Albright Sisters trilogy (though there is a companion book, Taboo) features Beatrice, the bitchy demanding sister whom no one likes. Now that Miranda and Penelope have made excellent matches - love matches too - the pressure is on Beatrice, especially as she doesn't want to spend her life single and keeping her mother - a Mrs Bennet-type mother - company while the ton shuns her. Matters reach a peak when Miranda arrives to take the youngest sister, Winifred, to have a Season away from London, their mother - and Beatrice.

Hurt and angry that her rich and influential sisters have given up on her and are condemning her to a lonely, empty life - one that she admits she helped create with her attitude and poor behaviour - Beatrice takes things into her own hands. When handsome widower Gareth, Lord Highcroft, returns to society two years after his wife died - at his hands, rumour has it - Beatrice makes an offer: since no one else will have them, what with her shrewish nature and his "proclivities" (plus the rumour that he killed his first wife), why don't they just marry each other?

Gareth can see the logic in it, but he has his own negotiation to make. First she must promise two weeks with him, to see if they are compatible - if she can handle his sexual proclivities, his needs, which he is unashamed of - and if they are they will marry; if not, he'll set her up with an income and a house.

Beatrice goes into her fortnight at Gareth's estate with only a vague idea of what she's getting herself into. When she learns what he wants she's shocked and her first instinct is to resist or even fake it to get what she wants. But Gareth draws out her true nature, works his way past her barriers and prickly protective mask to find the real Beatrice. Yet even as Beatrice and Gareth are discovering just how compatible they are for each other, Beatrice's very life is threatened by an avenger of Gareth's dead wife - an avenger who wants to make Lord Highcroft pay.

I think this was easily my favourite of the three. Oddly enough, Beatrice was a much more likeable and enjoyable character than her predecessors, and Gareth oozed sexuality and charisma. I loved that he was totally accepting of himself, and that Beatrice was too - of him and herself. There was no "running away from the truth" that is rife in romance novels, a formulaic nervous tic that bores me to tears. They found happiness in each other and embraced it.

It's taken me four books to figure out what's really holding me back from loving these more, though. They're too quick. That's not a bad thing - you can read these quickly and there's no superfluous or dull stuff in there; the author herself says that's what she wants to write. Well, she has definitely succeeded. But like she also says, she wrote these because she wanted to write the books she wants to read. Well, what I want to read counts too then doesn't it? I want more substance, especially from these historical ones. I want more tension, more of a build-up. Like reading a richly detailed and multi-layered historical fiction novel that also just happens to be erotica with a happy ending (which is what "erotic romance" is).

This isn't a criticism of Michaels, not really. I would like her stories to slow down a bit and use less introspective thought as filler - it wouldn't be filler if there was other stuff as well. I enjoy the books for what they are, but they're a bit like empty calories: tastes yummy and temporarily fills you up, but doesn't really satisfy you and doesn't make your body healthy in the long run. You can crave more of the same and it only gets worse.

Has anyone written the kind of genre blend I'm talking about? I suppose publishers and booksellers would consider it too confusing...

-Modern BDSM techniques thrust into season romance novel. No style involved.-

Beatrice is the black sheep of the Albreight clan of females. High-handed, spoiled and bitchy, has chased away for years any suitor that dared to approach her, eradicating her chances to wed. Her sisters, Miranda and Penelope who are now married, take the youngest (Winifred) under their wings to help improve her chances away from the gloomy influence of Beatrice and therefore abandoning her in the company of their bitter mother.

Garreth Berenger, the Marquis of Highcroft attempts to enter the gatherings of the ton after years of withdrawal due to the rumors that condemned him to have had murdered his wife. While the ton openly shuns him, Beatrice casts her interest on him and finds that she is attracted to Gareth. Determined to change her fate as a shrew and escape the company of her overbearing mother, Beatrice marks Gareth as the man to finally wed her. She proposes to him in order to solve their mutual problems, only to receive as an answer that Gareth will not marry her unless he beds her and finds her compatible to his sexual preferences.
(Meaning if Beatrice has any prospects to enter a BDSM relationship in the role of a sub)

At first, I was excited to read a BDSM related season romance, since there aren't many of this subgenre out there and the story seemed interesting. Plus, I was curious to see how the author mingled the BDSM element in an era of strictly conservative (more accurately, puritan) beliefs concerning flirt, marriage and intercourse.
Well, the only thing in this novel indicating a season romance, is the mention of the ladies' gowns and the "ton". Modern BDSM tactics such as "safe words", accessories and furniture used for BDSM practices are thrust into the novel with no explanation of how and why, making the use of the BDSM element completely unjustifiable and out of place (and time). The whole BDSM idea feels disconnected, unrehearsed and superfluous, leaving also gaps in Gareth's character that unfortunately, aren't filled.

I don 't usually judge characters unless there are serious dvelopment problems and inconsistencies. I liked the fact that Beatrice was not the naive, sweet little girl that cannot hurt a fly, as in usual season romances, and that Gareth was portrayed as a dark mysterious persona. But when the actions are contradicting the beliefs and the characters say one thing and do another, then we're talking about development problems.
And both leading characters suffer of this.

It's quite clear that with every encounter, Beatrice and Gareth's lust grows, but there is no turning point from lust to love. Even more so, the idea of love didn't even grow in these two until the villain of the story showed up to rush out their "emotions" towards each other. The fact that a bad guy was needed for them to blurt it out, only seemed forced. A kinda "let's patch it up and get it over with" feeling to end the novel already.
All in all, I can't say I'd recommend this one for entertainment purposes.

- Uma leitura soft mas “caliente”;
- Para quem quer ter bons sonhos :D!
E por isso classifico o livro em 3.5!

Nothing Denied - 3 1/2 stars

We saw glimpses of Beatrice's spoiled and whining personality in the first two Albright sister's stories, so it was no surprise that it was very difficult to like her very much when it came to her own story. She is a real b*tch who has ruined herself with the ton with her rude and haughty manners. Enter the Marquis of Highcroft, Gareth Berenger, whose own reputation is in shatters and is completely shunned by the ton also. Both are desperate to make a match and since no one else will consider either of them they strike a bargain of their own to see if they can be a suitable match for each other! The first half of the book was difficult because of Beatrice's continuous whining and I wanted to toss the book and move onto to something else, but it got much better about midway in and I did end up enjoying the book so I'm glad I stuck with it. Though it wasn't my favorite in the series, overall it was a very good read.

According to Jess Michael's March 2010 newsletter, this is the final chapter of the Albright Sisters as well as the final Jess Michaels book. While it is disappointing that there will be no more, I really enjoyed the series and want to thank Ms. Michaels for bringing them to us and wish her well in all her future endeavors. Jess you will be missed!

Gostei bastante deste livro.

Book 3 in the Albright Sisters series. Unfortunately, this is the third and final book as we find out what happens to the youngest sister, Winifred, near the end of the book. Which, to me is very disappointing, as I was counting on being able to read the story about the youngest sister in her own book. On Ms. Michaels’ website it states that this is the last book in this series. It is unclear whether this was the writer’s decision or the publisher’s.

This story is about the third oldest Albright sister, Beatrice, who, while beautiful, is something of a shrew. She has been unable to find a husband because of not only her prickly nature, but because of her mother’s behavior in society. At the beginning of the book Beatrice learns that Miranda is going to take Winifred under her wing in order to find her a good husband. Beatrice realizes that this would leave her along with her mother for most likely the rest of her life. She decides that she needs to find a husband, any husband, fast so she can escape her mother. But, with her prickly nature, and fewer invitations arriving every day- who will take her?

Gareth Berenger, Marquis of Highcroft, is a widower. He has no heirs. His grandmother’s (who raised him) dying wish is that he should re-marry. He has every intention of trying to honor her last request. But, with the ton believing that he murdered his late wife, who will take him? But, even if he can get past that obstacle, he has certain requirements in his bedding partner. His last wife couldn’t live up to them. Could a future wife- and how would he make sure?
Beatrice and Gareth meet and quickly realize what the other one is looking for- a marriage. However, because of Gareth’s requirements they strike up a bargain. If Beatrice can fulfill his requirements in the bedroom for two weeks then he will wed her. If not, he will place a large sum of money on her to make up for her lack of virtue. So it begins…

While I enjoyed this book, it might not be for everyone, as there is very light BDSM. I wanted to give this book 5 stars, as I thought every other book in the series so far has been 5 stars. However, while I absolutely loved the hero, Gareth, I felt that at the end the bridge from lust to love was very weak and unbelievable. In the other two previous books the characters loved each other long before they announced it. This is not the case in this book. Only when something happens to Beatrice at the end do both of them realize they love each other. Fans of the series will enjoy seeing Miranda and Ethan again. However, you only get to hear about Jeremy and Penelope. There is a very satisfying short Epilogue that takes place 5 years later that fans will enjoy. However, for me, it was not enough to satisfy my curiosity for the youngest sister.

My Rating: 4.5 of 5 Stars

Thank you Jess Michaels for saving the best for last! This final chapter of the Albright Sisters leaves me with no complaints! In my opinion, this is the best crafted, steamiest, and sexiest of all.

It would take Beatrice to make the most interesting heroine. While she is a spoiled brat to rival any you can ever think of, only someone with her personality would have the guts to take on the Season's true horror, Gareth. Only she would have the strength and snark to handle Gareth's predilection for sexual dominance.

Now how could this be if I intensely disliked Penelope's character in book 2? And would have cheerfully kicked Nathan in book 2.5? Let me clarify. I thought Penelope had more of a martyr personality than a bratty one. Cutting off her nose to spite her face and then wallowing in self-pity because of what she did. And Nathan... Augh! Straitlaced, uptight, yech. Thankfully, they both changed for the better.

But Beatrice was bitchy from the start. Bitchy she may have been but that also made her strong-willed. She did exactly what she wanted and to hell with everyone else. What a perfect match for Gareth!

Gareth could wilt any female with a look. In addition, he brings out the darkest suspicions in any male. In that sense, Beatrice was perfectly right in her assumption that only the two of them could end up with each other. Neither of them could have imagined how well suited they were. Only his dominance could curb her shrewish ways but it was her strength that allowed their D/s relationship to flourish.

Throw into the dark, steamy mix a mystery regarding the death of Gareth's first wife and you have an erotic novel with a twist that was difficult to predict. Loved it!

Though I enjoy Jess Michaels as an author, one thing that's always bothered me about her is that while she's advertised as Erotica, she's more Erotica Lite. It's slightly more risque sex than you'd find in a normal romance novel, but I feel like it just hovers over the line between romance and full on Erotica. This book is no different. While I could accept it for what it was in her previous books, I had a hard time with it in this one. I was intrigued when Gareth's BDSM tendencies were revealed towards the beginning of the book, but I feel like a lot of things were promised with it, but were never followed through on. It lightly skimmed the surface of his sexual preferences and I was left wondering why certain things in his secret room were brought up at all if there was never any intention of using it. Another problem I had with the book was the heroine. I just didn't find her likable at all. She spent a majority of the book as a bitch, belittling those she felt under her and, while she gave a reason and felt guilt for it, I don't feel like it excused her behavior at all. When she eventually turned into a nice girl, it felt forced and it wasn't believable. I also thought that the sudden addition of a villain in the book's last pages was completely unneeded. While I was somewhat entertained by this book, I think it's definitely Michaels' weakest showing so far. Hopefully the next is a vast improvement.

Strong 4.5. I thought I would so hate Beatrice, but I actually liked her a lot. Very good end to a decent series. I will be looking for more by Jess Michaels/Jenna Peterson.

It's more of a 1.8. I think the author has no imagination at all. She fooled me through the whole book. I excepted a depth that never came...

So Beatrice Albright is the third sister, the one who feels that has been put aside by her mother and sisters. Gareth is the marquis of Highcroft, who's been acused of killing his first wife. Beatrice longs to set free from her mother's domain, and seems to throw herself into other kind of domain.

Gareth is sometimes tender, and that's why I haven't given a 1 to this book. For Beatrice is claimed to be wild and determinated and impossible to manipulate during the whole book, but I never saw her resisting him. Or rejecting the SHOKING things they do. (shoking for literature, of course)

So, basically, is another novel like many I've read, with the difference that Jess is predictable and her will to shock only did it because this is the second book of hers that I've read - and, she actually goes further than anyone else in bed scenarios. But I actually felt ashame of having bough it and read it so fast. I think I can blame its short size and its general lightness. Truth is the book is nothing but sex - very little of other contents. Don't think I'll ever read it again.

“But part of the seduction is waiting. It’s wondering when the moment will become, because that makes the moment all the more enjoyable. Don’t you like waiting?”

Nothing Denied is book three in the Albright Sisters series by Jess Michaels. This is my favorite book in the series, it’s so hot my nook practically combusted. Beatrice Albright and Gareth Berenger, the Marquis of Highcroft, both have a reputation that precedes them. Beatrice grew up spoiled by her mother and developed a difficult, shrewish and snobbish personality. Gareth has been plagued with rumors of murdering his first wife and even before that there were whispers about his preference for dominance. Beatrice is at the end of her rope and she sees an alliance with Gareth as her only opportunity to escape her family and an unhappy future. Gareth agreed, but first he proposes a trial period to see if they suit. Boy, do they! (Excessive hand fanning) But before they can settle into life with one another they have to overcome ghosts from the past. My favorite thing about this book is the character development. Gareth and Beatrice make each other better people. Also, a lot authors will write heroes that used to be villains, but it’s usually restricted to men. There’s usually no forgiveness for women, even in a genre that mostly caters to women. Beatrice is a hard character and not very likable until you get to know her in this book. I’m so happy I had the chance.

(Note: I wish we could have had Winifred’s story. I know we got a taste, but I just want more of this family. Oh well... I’ll just have to re-read this series again.)

Grade: C- (2.5 stars)

I had high hopes for this book. Unfortunately, I found the heroine barely tolerable. Lame reasons for Beatrice's bratty behavior are explained. Garreth, the hero, was...okay. I did manage to complete this story about two ill-reputed people who try to determine sexual compatibility for marraige. There's some BDSM but nothing hardcore. (Use of bondage, Dom/sub role, and anal sex.)

Beatrice accepted the submissive role rather smoothly. We're told her personality might reject it but she's excited. Garreth commands her. She gets mad but she's excited. You get the picture. The sexy times fell flat for me. This may be due to the lack of emotion between the characters. Yes, there is lust. Yes, they reveal their secrets. But, where's the love? I wasn't feeling it. And, yes. They did say those three little words.

On a positve note, Beatrice is prickly (aka bitchy) throughout the story. She doesn't go through a major transformation to Miss Happy Go Lucky, which I give kudos to the author. In the end, she's a happily married prickly person finds inner peace...and good sex with a kinky man. I liked the epilogue, too.

Anyway, I'm disappointed. I so enjoyed Everthing Forbidden (book 1) so if you decide to try Jess Michaels I suggest starting with the first book. Perhaps, you'll like Nothing Denied. Other readers have. This is just my opinion.

Thanks AJ for this one! As you and everyone can see, I loved this book!
I can understand why some people didn't it; Beatrice is a prickly woman, one called a shrew by the ton and not undeservingly. However, since The Taming of the Shrew is my favorite Shakespearian story, I should not be surprised that I ended loving this. Strange as it may sound, I prefer an intelligent, willful but selfish heroine to a goodhearted, silly and childish one (yes, that would be describing Penelope).

So, Beatrice's character didn't bother me much. Instead, I thought she was the perfect woman for Gareth, a delicious hero, if a little wild for my tastes:) And once more, as I did with the first book, I thought that Michaels managed through her erotic scenes to actually convince the reader of the emotional fondness between the heroes. I could feel for them, ache for them and really cared and wanted for 'prickly' Beatrice to find a man to whom, she could open her heart. And in the end, I was left satisfied that she actually did. The lovely epilogue was an added bonus to this series.

With this book, Jess Michaels removed any doubt I had and made herself an auto-buy writter for me. My today's purchase of Taboo is the proof of it.
